OMG! I have had my serger for over 30 years and you are teaching me things that are soooo helpful. I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that, but I am excited to learn more from your tutorials. Thanks a bunch!
I watched your whole series while waiting for my (first) serger to be delivered. You're a huge help. Now that I've gotten into it, did a full threading and ran some practice seams, I'm going back and reviewing your series again. And it makes even more sense the 2nd time! So heartfelt thanks, you've saved me from hours of frustration and aggravation!
Thank you very much for your kind words! Sergers can be confusing at first to say the least. We have full confidence that you will MASTER the art of the serger in no time 😊
You have no idea how happy i was that i found your videos. My other half got me a serger, i always wanted one. But i almost cried, trying to figure it all out. Your videos helped me so much!!! Thank you!!
Sarah, you’re a wonderful instructor. This is a simple, straight-forward, complete series. I have the comparable Brother serger but this seems completely relevant to my model. Thank you!
Thank you for the demonstration video. I lost my Singer serger instruction manual a long time ago and was struggling to understand how it works. I finally gave up, put it away, and stopped sewing altogether. Now with your video, I am charged to get back to sewing again and using my new/old serger. Thank you again for making your videoes about sergers.
Hi, Susan! I'm so glad it has been helpful! By the way, we do have a ton of Singer manuals. Perhaps we have your lost one. What is your serger model number?
Sewing Parts Online Hi. Thank you for reying to my post about the Serger manuals. The model number of the one i have is 14U554 Singer Millemium Series. I do hope you have one. Thank you again. Susan
Oh my gosh. Thanks Sarah. I just bought a Serger at an estate sale and even with the manual I'm struggling. Your videos are wonderful. I have purchased stuff from Sewing Parts at various times and fun to see an actual person representing the company.
I love your videos! Not only do you speak very clearly, but your videos are short so the information gets a chance to get through the brain...ha....and your camera is in the best position. I think I saw 2008 in episode 1 or 2 so you did this a long time ago and I'm just so happy I found this site. Thanks again!
I just purchased a serger and I'm waiting for it to be delivered... I'm so excited so i thoughi I should start learning how to use them... I like your clarity , directness and style...Thank you for bringing your knowledge and gifts to youtube! I have a channel and i like dolls miniatures and toys...so i like to make clothes for fashion dolls and I'd like to make them look even better so I purchased the serger. Wish me luck! If it works out I'll add my creations to my channel. 🙂
I have a Pfaff 4862 Coverlock serger that I got 16 years ago. I have used it less than 15 times in all those years because I'm afraid of the stupid thing. However, THIS is the year that I am determined to conquer this fear and USE MY SERGER!! I stumbled upon these tutorials and they are so informative and take the "mystery" out of serging. Thank you so much.
Chatty Cathie, I bought a serger 11 years ago and have tried several times to figure it out, and could not. lol I just found some videos online that should have come with it on a DVD. I cannot believe I have been relying on the vague manual to figure out how to thread this thing! I have been afraid of mine, as well. But I am determined, like you, to conquer it and finally begin using it. What did people do before RUclips?!!
I’m so happy I found you especially working with this specific model I just purchased and I’m new to the serger community! Please keep posting I had a bunch up problem today n I was so stressed out hopefully I find a troubleshooting video here :)
Awesome! I bought a very old used serger 3/4 years ago, and tried it once, I found the tension is too tight, I also tried to adjust it, but I failed , so I put in a box and never touched it again. Today I found your video here. I hope I can figure out after watching this video. Thank you.
Thank you for this series. I look forward to your next one! I have a White server and generally know how to use it, but it will be nice to learn the proper way to do things.
Hi I'm new to your channel! I find the videos very detailed but still straight to the point ! I cant find my machine online anywhere ! I got it used and it's a simplicity brand serger. Do you know if regular needles work for my machine ?? Thanks!!
Sarah you look so familiar. Did you go to LVA? Also thank you for the video!! I’m trying to figure out a serger I got from a neighbor and grateful I don’t have to stare at a manual until my eyes fall out. 😂
Hi, I have a serger sitting in my closet for years. I used it many years ago but was not very successful with it. I am now determined to master this machine and make those things I always wanted to. I am so happy to have found this tutorial. But after trying unsuccessfully to just start serging. Something is just not working. I have checked and rechecked my threading. I changed the thread to a better quality thread, but the issue persists. I have an Elna Pro 4 DE. My bobbin thread, the one to the farthest right keeps unthreading. Any ideas of what I might be doing wrong??
Hi! After you thread it (before you start sewing) are you able to easily pull about 10 inches of thread through the machine without the thread getting caught on the stool stand?
Hi, Paula! It depends on your serger. Most newer sergers use regular home sewing machine needles, like these Schmetz needles: goo.gl/H4oNbT - usually sizes 75 - 90 are recommended. What is the make and model of your serger? I'm happy to confirm the needle type for you =)
I've had my serger (in a closet primarily!) for a long time and a few parts are missing - not on the machine but the extras :) I can find the spool covers...are they necessary? I'll order a needle holder. And my cones are serger thread but the larger cones touch each other so they are a bit snug. Should I just leave them on the table while sewing? Thanks for your help. :)
Hi! The thread nets aren't a "must" but they are a big help. For the larger cones, you can use an independent thread stand, just make sure to still pass the thread through all of the thread guides.
I just set them behind the machine since I don't have an independent thread stand...if I ever find some I'll grab them though :) And re the nets - what exactly do they do? thanks
Trying to pull up the same information on Singer HD0450S. It must be a newer machine. Not finding much info on. Wanting to bye one. But looking at the Box it comes in, not saying anything of even being a Serger. (Stopped me in my track.) The picture looks like a Serger but not saying anywhere on the box.
petmom ful I got mine online. And the best part was it’s only a few dollars. They say it’s to change the double needles in sergers. But works in a sewing machine too. ESP helpful in my machines with a tiny harps (toys & travel) that’s hard to get my hand in there to do anything.
I'm considering getting this machine but am wondering if this machine is able to hem jeans? Does anyone know if this machine is able to or if I would need to buy additional parts to do this?
I wouldn't recommend this machine for sewing denim. I would invest in a higher end machine if you plan to hem denim regularly. This one is really nice and durable: goo.gl/3gHfCB
Hi, Gabby! I've had that happen before, too! No worries! You should be able to remove the left side body of your serger with a regular screwdriver. While you have it removed, it's recommended to oil and clean out lint. Good Luck!
Couldn't you simply put a piece of tape over the opening while changing needles so, should they fall out of your fingers, they cannot fall into the machine?
My Janome Magnolia serger threads the lower looper differently. You have to pass the thread to the left of the "bed" thread it through a hole on the far side of the looper and pull the thread through to thread the looper.
Manual for Janome Magnolia serger has wrong threading sequence. You need to thread upper looper first, then lower looper, right needle, and then left needle. I found this info out from a dealer and it changed my life!!🧵🧵🧵🧵😊
Thank you for this series. I look forward to your next one! I have a White server and generally know how to use it, but it will be nice to learn the proper way to do things.

Masking tape stuck onto the bed of the machine is a good way to avoid losing needles into the belly of the beast.
ahhh! Thank you! The right needle is SUPPOSED to be lower. Thank you!!!!!
love this as a bran new to serging
Where did you get the needle inserter?
Thanks for great information and clear video
Looking forward to more in this series!
Do I need the two needles to be the same? Is there such a thing like server needles?
Hello Sarah
Could you tell me where to buy the needle inserter?
Hi I'm new to your channel! I find the videos very detailed but still straight to the point ! I cant find my machine online anywhere ! I got it used and it's a simplicity brand serger. Do you know if regular needles work for my machine ?? Thanks!!
Is the flat part of the needle facing in or out to the front? Thanks
What is a looper and how is it different from the other thread holders??
Love this just getting started, have a Janome BabyLock 203, just learning will try to join on Facebook
Welcome! Sewing and serging is so much fun. We'd love to have you join our FB page - Sewing Parts Online - Sewing Community. :)
How often do you change the needles?
Sarah you look so familiar. Did you go to LVA? Also thank you for the video!! I’m trying to figure out a serger I got from a neighbor and grateful I don’t have to stare at a manual until my eyes fall out. 😂
Hi, where can you purchase the needle inserter that you demonstrate in this video?
Hi Cynthia! We sell it here: goo.gl/QtUj5V

Hi!

Are serger needles different from regular sewing machine needles? I'm guessing you need specific serger needles, is that right?

I have the Singer 14SH754, it's identical to the one you demonstrate in this series of tutorials, apart from the writing on the front. Thanks, x
These Schmetz needles will work wonderfully: goo.gl/H4oNbT . They're the only brand I use. Enjoy!
Yes
Hello, Can you please tell me what kind of needle do we use while serging knit fabrics. Is it simple overlock needle or some other kind?
I've had my serger (in a closet primarily!) for a long time and a few parts are missing - not on the machine but the extras :) I can find the spool covers...are they necessary? They help the thread feed better off the spool. If you're really picky about having a perfectly balanced stitch, they're nice to have.
Great thanks so much:)

Do u half to use serger needles in your serger.
on the needle pack there is a number 502L what does that mean
Get ya a needle inserter that can hold more than one needle. I use it on my sewing machine but man it’s helpful for sergers too.
Thank you for the information
I have never seen one that holds 2 needles! I will look for that at the store.

Serger needle is different from.regular sewing machine needle? How to know?
when i try to find "spool holders" only spool storage results come up... is there another name for this?
Hi am having problems placing back my needles
Make sure that the flat side of your needle is facing the correct direction, as stated in your manual.
can you email me a list of the necessary starter items you listed?
Hi, Joey! Sure! Shoot us an email at info@sewingpartsonline.com requesting the Beginner's Guide to Sewing tools list and I'll get it sent out to you.
On March 10th I sent an email and KEVIN replied and told me he had no clue what I was talking about. I sent your response to him but he never replied.
What happens if the needle falls inside? How did you get it out? I had one break off and can't find it :(
Hi, Gabby! I've had that happen before, too! No worries! You should be able to remove the left side body of your serger with a regular screwdriver. While you have it removed, it's recommended to oil and clean out lint. Good Luck!

Oh no! I'm so sorry!
Am only seeing one hole
