- Senior Technical Editor Luke Hill has spent the last couple of week analysing some new X570 motherboards and today he presents his deep analysis of the new MSI MEG X570 ACE. Its a £350 board, so its not cheap, but can it deliver good value for money at that price point ? Be sure to read the full 6,000 word analysis over at www.kitguru.net here: bit.ly/2lDS4ZX

This guy does Great board reviews. Very comprehensive.
thank you, I am sure he will be glad to read the feedback - Allan
Thanks for the feedback :)!
The lack of SATA ports is not important to me. I use M.2 drives exclusively. They work great, and there's no ugly SATA cables messing up my build.
I can't see anyone use these kind of board will use more than 4 SATA ports either. Just imaging what a mess it would be if someone use all the sata port, there will be not only sata cables, but also sata power cables.
Exactly, if you are paying £350 for the mobo then you are likely to be the kind of person that not only values the speed and appearance of the m.2 but also have the finances to buy them. The lack of SATA ports means nothing at this point
Excellent review! I just bought the board and the 3900x, good to know that the thermals won't let me down!
@@JonoFunk Been excellent, great temps, 3 M.2 slots, easy access... all the features I want. The Ace is a phenomenal board, and updating BIOS is a piece of cake. MSI has great BIOS & drivers.
I have this board and a 3900x I have game boost turned up to 11 in bios I get 4.40 MHz all day long
air cooled d15 Noctua never goes over 85c
Hello Luke I installed the Ryzen 5950X on mine & no issues
The best board review on YT. Very informative without the complex mumbo jumbo numbers...
Waiting for mini ITX board reviews both x570 and z390. 👍
We have the ASRock X570 mITX board in for testing. Looking forward to seeing how it handles the high core count Ryzen chips!
Nice overview of the board. Thanks
The lack of SATA ports is definitely not an issue at all for me as i will be using the M.2 slots exclusively. Even if i needed to use the SATA ports for storage SSDs it would only be one or two of them. Great review, thank you!
Most of my builds have a number of additional drives (both SSDs and HDDs), so I would have liked another 2 SATA ports. Not a deal-breaker, but once motherboards start to reach this price tier I think there should be little extras like this.
best motherboard's in detail reviewer . love your work . you do not leave anything . thank you very much :)
Very nice deep dive review, thank you!
I fully agree that providing only four (4) SATA data ports is a huge handicap - especially since SSD capacity is still below the 4TB level today :(
I agree personally. I think M.2 devices are great, especially for speed and form factor, but there are still plenty of use cases where the all-out capacity and low cost of 2.5" SATA SSDs and HDDs are very useful.
@@lukehill5739 I fully agree - It will be great when the capacities for either is affordable beyond 1tb
I chose this board to upgrade from my am3+ Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z, an excellent board for the socket. Going from 8 to 4 Sata ports was a little disappointing because I no longer have a sata port left for my CD drive, something I use often for burning CDs, and ripping blurays and music. Sure, I could make it external, but I think thats a very ugly solution. Im thinking about replacing my 2 internal 3TB HDDs for a larger and newer HDD just to reclaim some Sata port space.
Luke does a video on KitGuru,I automatically upvote it and leave a comment! Great work Luke!
SAS add on on cards are a better option vs compensating with other pci-e cards. You can get 16 6gpbs ports for 4x bandwidth.
thank you for chipset heatpipe remove, nice to see how its made.
You mention the Aorus master having 6 Sata ports but if you use two m.2 drives the board only allows 4 sata ports. So it’s the same at the end of the day.
The reason Gigabyte have to have such extreme BIOS backup is their BIOS' suck! I've never had a good BIOS on a Gigabyte board, be it Intel or AMD. That said, I find ASUS price gouging pretty annoying as with their massive popularity and brand recognition, they often charge mad prices for stuff that is just "ok" or "nearly top end"
Overall I'm looking to ASROCK or MSI instead this time. Also A++ on your board reviews.
I've said this before; thank god gigabyte thought to have dual bios. I had a x370 Gaming K7 for a year and ditched it primarily for the shoddy bios releases. I was saved by dual bios three times in the one year I used that board. I switched from that to a MSI X470 Gaming M7 AC and it's been a fantastic motherboard though I wasn't happy with the BIOS downgrade to fit the 3xxx chips. Never had a problem with the BIOS and it's been happy with the multiple memory kits i've tried in it
so the knob, if it also over clocked gpu and memory in 11 steps for on the fly clocks would be cool. example i boot up just chilling and then want to game a few rounds but dont feel like going into bios . this quick feature would be cool. but it doesnt clock gpu or ram as well so its not so cool. I find myself only over clocking for certain tasks or games that frames drop. so if after a game with frame drop i could turn the knob before next match, that would be epic!!
Another useful, thorough MB review. Thanks Luke! The gameboost is dumb, and like others have said, can be dangerous if too much voltage is used. Personally, I need more than 4 sata ports.
For what??? 3 m.2 arent enough or you stick to ancient hardware???
@@chimei-tekinaneko8318 Sata is not ancient and not everyone can throw away 1 or 2 year old sata ssd drives and replace with m.2, but if you supply me with lots of cash, I'll be glad to do it
BEWARE GUYS! sometimes the onboard temp display gets stuck, aswell as the LEDs, not sure if this is a problem for everybody, but from what I've read, it is causing some users big trouble like their fans getting stuck at minimum speeds and don't notice until their CPU gets toasty enough, I have this MB and only had the display temp and LED problem, nothing too serious yet, but it's really annoying and I hope it doesn't cause any problems on the long run, I'd seriously recommend looking for another MB, since these problems are unacceptable for a product at this price range
You need to get MSI Dragon Center and update LED firmware from version 04 to version 09
I have this board, I hate the gameboost knob but like the chipset fan design and positioning. The knob is a pointless gimmick taking up valuable space. It puts too much voltage through the CPU which can be dangerous for inexperienced users who may assume it is safe.
Finally, a detailed review! I'm thinking of buying this mobo. It's quite expensive here, though. Although I would pay that amount for outstanding features (like the special cooling solution); the amount I wouldn't pay is the - steep - price of Gigabyte X570 Extreme, but boy, I wish I could have that mobo :D
recently saw a video of an 1800x running on this board. is that something that would require a BIOS update or is that board compatible with ryzen series 1 out of the box?
Rory Thomson no it is NOT compatible with ryzen gen 1
Thank you Sir
what are the differences between the ace and the godlike.....is it more than just the 10gb ethernet port?
I thought I was getting error codes that weren't in the manual... Turns out its just the CPU temperature. Thanks
Nice review! after making some research on the x570 platform, it seems like the majority of the motherboards have the chipset fan in a bad location, right under the GPU for most of the current high end graphics cards, specially the AsRock Taichi and the one I bought recently, the TUF Gaming Plus. Can anyone confirm if this is true? Hope I haven't made a bad choice just for saving 125 dollars instead of buying this... (I'm not into OC, just want a rock solid and stable system)
I just got rid of my Tuf gaming plus for an unrelated issue, but yes! The Chipset fan was under the graphics card I was using, though I wasn't sure if it was having much of a negative effect. Although, you probably already know that now since your post is a month old.
@@HitmonleeDeluxe Thank you very much for your reply! After doing some research and my own experience I can confirm that I am not noticing any negative effects and the fan is constantly working but remains inaudible. I am very happy with the motherboard and hope this doesn't change in a couple of years!
I really like this board but cant stand the gold details and the tacky dragon logo
Exactly this and the infinity mirror thing without any diffuser so you can see the ugly 5050 led pixels was the reason I went with the gigabyte aorus master
100% your graphics card is going to cover the dragon logo. I really like the gold and the dragon though.
@@Anthony-zf1nh Leaves the incredibly shitty and designed by a 2nd grader infinity mirror...
@@NavySeal2k Why are you watching videos of it, if you hate it so much. Leave your negativity elsewhere
@@Anthony-zf1nh I liked the board per se, but the design is very tacky... And please stay away from the internet child, I don't let myself be silenced by a beta like you. XD
But why only 4 SATA ports????
Because they used the PCIe lanes for the M.2 slots
@james s poor people don't upgrade that fast
@@pcbingemaster poor people aren’t buying $360 mobos
Please tell me should I buy this motherboard or asus rog strik x 570 E
You have to decide that for yourself bud..
@@chimei-tekinaneko8318 lol its 1 year plus old comment bro I already build 2 pc now
what would be great together with this board intel or ryzen
This a AMD Ryzen only mobo. The Ryzen 3700x works very well with this board or if you can spend a little more the Ryzen 3900x is even better.
But if its only for gaming i would say get the Ryzen 3700x and put the rest towards a Gen 4 M.2.
Z390,z490 has intel msi ace
what was the total cost of the system you used here
I NEED HELP!! I bought this board, but I have a problem. There are two 6.7 volt (or something close to that voltage) right next to the four ram slots. There are 2 compositors going north to south, and the ones I am talking about are below the other two compositors that are above the ones I am talking about going east to west. The problem I have is there is a piece of plastic beneath the southern compositor, and it’s about a quarter of the way under it, now I could remove it but then the compositor would have a space between the bottom of the the compositor and the board. So, what do I do? I haven’t turned it on yet, and I can’t exchange it cause new egg is out of stock, but they can give me a refund, but the board went up 200 dollars since I bought it. So, I can’t refund it, and I can’t exchange it (I have 4 days left), but I think it works cause the company tests the boards before they leave, so do I just keep it? Please help??
The heat probably won't ever reach the fan with a pipe that long.
if it didn't, that would actually be a good thing
does it fit double 3 slot gpu like 3060 ti and rtx 2080??
Love the Dragon image.
Sorry for your loss... (talking about your taste)
This board is bad ass for people that need it. If you are not putting a Ryzen 9 3950x with 128gb of ram and a 2080ti GPU then you don't need ; down grade on the board and invest on what you need like your CPU , GPU or Ram.
Freddie Charriez what do u think about 32 gb rams rtx 2080 amd 7 3800x i eanna change my asus crosshair vi extreme with this Mb will i have some better results?
Hey i had trauma with bad pc.I need 400$ mobo for my ryzen 5
128gb of ram what are you encoding video lol. I have this mobo a ryzen 9 3900x 32gb 3600mhz amd optimized ram a seasonice 750 watt focus ps and a 8 gb radeon sapphire 5700 xt limited edition gc 2 Tb sabrent rocket m.2 ssd, and this thing never goes over 70 degrees celsius using the wrath cooler the cpu came with i can run every game i thrown at it on ultra buttery smooth. That amount of ram is useless unless you are a video editor no game out there is gonna make use of more than 32 gb of ram. I run triple displays LG QHD 144hz 1440p monitors each 32 inch screens all. Would have gone higher resolution if the monitors were any bigger but no need at that size you cant tell the difference. Yes this mobo is a bit of overkill for my set up i bought it more for the future proofing than the current build. The curent build cost me over 2k USD built at tax time 2020. I love overkill though its safer to overkill a system so that nothing is taxxed so hard it burns out on you. The only thing in this system ive ever been able to run over 60% usage is the graphics card. I run it at 100% usage for ost of the games on ultra for 12 hour gaming sessions GC straight cooking in the case it hits around 60-80C on average never had it crash once or lag out. My build is completely compatible with every component in the case its runs like luiquid silver i love it. All i will need to upgrade in the next few years is the graphics card first the cpu second and possibly add some ram but i doubt that. I dont use a single one of the sata ports. I got and external 4tb drive for movies music and uninstalled games. I will most likey add 2 more m.2 and some internal ssds at a later time. Cant g wrong with this board its rock solid. I got no complaints.
Bil bob yes the reason my rig is so strong is because it was build with not only gaming in mind but also for video rendering. Once the only building Rick based on what their needs are not just for gaming obviously hence the strength of my rig working beautiful no problems workhorse and runs any game at 100%😉
@@freddiecharriez not shamong your rig man but that build is like 4k usd belive me i wanted to go that far but for gamers and the average users 128 gigs ram is wasted so is the 3950x nothing ive ran into so far even comes close to taxing my 32 gigs ram or my 3900x cpu
just saying
What is the difference to connect an M2 NVe disk to CPU or to Chipset?
Latency and bandwidth from CPU to chipset is only 4.0x4 so any other traffic deduct from your nvme performance if you Put a 4.0x4 nvme in the chipset slot
sounds like you guys are praising the gigabyte products, and thats not a bad thing, if you want to come home one day to your house burnt down. just saying. I own this beast of a board and it is as i said a pure beast. with the same 3900x cpu im able to hit 4.7ghz and a 4.9ghz boost overclocking with a thermaltake floe 360 aio, but i keep the ac on in the house so the temps are constantly around 62f ambient room temps. im sure thats helping out a lil bit. but this board is a beast. I get around a 15 to 17% performance boost from the overclock this board allows me to get. im sure if i had a lil bit better cooling This board would hit 5ghz easily. oh also. the rgb display in the i/o panel did shit the bed on me for no apparent reason, I turned the machine on one day it never worked again. I didn't bother to rma the board because I can't seem to go 2 weeks with my pc because thats how long the mail service and msi would take to get it there and back to me. but.eh. great board. great price. actually the board is now selling for more money than it did at release. I paid 400.00 it's now selling for 429.99 on amazon. great board.
Agree on the dial, but wondering if Luke might be to young to get the Joke about going to 11?
I think he is, but I put in the Spinal Tap image bottom right to signify what it was about ! - Allan
I just ordered this board last night
How's the board temperature or vrm? And performance?
