- The Dolly Llama is a large, articulated streamer fly that was originally developed for fishing in Alaska's rivers, where it proved to be highly effective for catching various species, including Dolly Varden and Coho salmon. Its design and movement resemble a baitfish, making it an enticing target for predatory fish.
This fly pattern has proven successful not only in Alaska but also in other salmon and steelhead fishing destinations around the world. Anglers often use the Dolly Llama in larger rivers and when the fish are in a more aggressive feeding mood. It is commonly fished using both swing and strip retrieves.
As with all fly patterns, local fishing conditions, the behavior of the target species, and water clarity can influence the effectiveness of the Dolly Llama. It's always best to ask local or experienced anglers for the best techniques and color combinations in specific fishing locations. Just as I’ve done here for bull trout on the Columbian.

Looks like we’re making another plumbus! Next time add a goose snerf to the end, secured to the bead by a zonker strip hackled into a berluti knot.
Lol that's funny. I love that video
Another great tie! I was just out in Alberta throwing uglies at bull trout and will be back in early September. Hopefully our paths will cross!
Wow, this is something i asked about awhile ago on discord! Thanks for grtting to it!
Absolutely, took some time but we got there. Going to be making more too as i stock up my fly box
Looks amazing i am going to have to tie some variations of it now! 🎣
You should! I'm going to do some darker ones, and a few with red as well
Nice video.
I can just recommend this channel to my fishing friends
I appreciate that
Love your videos, a cool add would be a transition to you casting the fly. Showing it in action! Also a plus to give you a reason to go! 😂😂
Very cool looking fly
Might make this
Have fishing
I believe this will work for northern pike and muskie. For those I would tie using olive, chartreuse, and yellow zonker strips with yellow and red ice dub.
Dude your voice is so satisfying
Glad you think so!
To give it a nice...
...buggy look
We need a video of you fishing with some of these flies
There are quite a few on this channel @mainelyoutdoors
These smash the bull trout out here in British Columbia!
