Soy andaluz, vivo aquí, he nacido aquí, pero mis antepasados son del norte... norte, y con ésto se me revive esa parte, que bello.

This is great...I'm Asturian and would like you to know that the CELT name for bagpipe is GUY-TAH (gaita)...bagpipe is a saxon word.

I'm either going to give up Scottish piping or get my hands on some of y'alls music and transcribe it. This is insane.
This is to traditional highland music what the mandolin is to Peter, Paul and Mary.

The final piece was the 'Floréu de Remis', a test and competition tune. This is a very elaborate one, the floréu was originally a short piece to test all the notes were in tune.
Asturian bagpipes can reach up to 2 octaves squeezing harder the bellows, depending on the quality of the chanter, the reed and the skills of the piper.
Please, don't give up playing Scottish bagpipes. To me are still the queen of them all, It's amazing what can be done with only 9 notes and a set of very complicated ornaments :)

He´s not playing in two octaves at the same time, the thing is he is fast switching between them. This is a "Floréu", and its the main trial to prove that you are a true asturian bagpiper. This one is particularly difficult!!

This is outstanding. How is he able to play more than one octave into the high register?

I play the Scottish pipes, I would love to have a gaita exactly like that one and play it as a Medieval bagpipe.

Its not a Spanish bagpipe, Its and asturian bagpipe. Spain have many kinds of bagpipes all around its regions and a huge general bagpipe tradition, so I think you have to specify that.

La gaita no es un instrumento celta. Existen gaitas en mesopotamia o la india anteriores a las "celticas". Y la gaita tambien existe en Aragon aunque ya esta extinguida.

    Hi!
was it a technical or a musical contest? In the first case, he must be the best, but in the second case...well: of course, It IS impressive to be able to move one's fingers so fast, but I must admit that I did not enjoy the music...although I like Asturian & Galician music. Where was sensitivity..musicality? I look forward to listen to this guy's music playing some tunes..without steroids ;)
    have a nice day
a french bagpipe player (who would love to play gaita)
