A little story about this song and how it come about. Apparently Kenny Rogers was flying either to or from somewhere with Jessi Colter (Waylon Jennings' wife) and they were talking about Waylon. Jessi said to Kenny that she didn't know what to do with Waylon as he was heavily into drugs at the time. She said that she was about at the end of her tether with him and thinking about leaving him. After the conversation, Kenny was thinking about this and wrote this song as Jessi's thoughts towards Waylon and I think he gave it to Jessi to sing to Waylon.
Just beautiful...and if anybody earned that serenade, it was Kenny. Our Ragdoll kitty was born on Jan. 19....obviously we had to name her Dolly (same b-days). My 100 lb. Boxer is named Bocephus and my big orange Parrot Cichlid is of course, Bevo. 🤘
When Dolly put out a record in the mid-90s, she hired Alison Krauss and Dan Tyminski to be on the album with her. Dolly loves Alison. When Shania Twain did her original tour in the 90s, she did not have a touring band, so Alison Krauss and Union Station went with her. At that point in the Band's career, they had been touring for 20 years. If you watch the video where Shania sings "Coat of Many Colors" with Dolly on Oprah's show then the band with her is Alison Krauss and Union Station. Dolly loves all those guys and gal.
Thank you for your reaction to this video. I probably watch this video at least once a week. Two beautiful voices singing a song written by a great singer and song writer...what could go wrong? Absolutely nothing! Fantastic!
I agree Don, how could this not be a 10? This is the elite of The Elite here. I was actually fortunate enough to meet Dolly in 1970 just before she became a Superstar. She was so humble and kind. A real classy lady.
I read that Jessi Colter met Kenny Rodgers on a plane i think , Kenny asked how's Waylon and wrote the song about Waylon. He later said it was about him self but a lot of them were living that life style. I like Waylons version best. Great channel Don.
This performance was from Foxwoods Casino in 2010 at "Kenny Rogers: The First 50 Years" concert event. Kenny performed at this show with Dolly, Allison, Billy, Wynonna Judd, Lionel Richie and for the first time since they disbanded, The First Edition. It was quite a show and I was lucky to be in attendance.
Thank you for doing this one since you couldn't do "Just When I Needed You Most " These two ladies are the very best, I think they sound so much alike because of the connection each of them have with Bluegrass. They are phenomenal in person ,Pure perfection . You reactions are on the money. Love your channel/ Thanks again
This very talented trio do full justice to one of Kenny;s classic tunes. Dolly's voice blends so well with Alison's and I wonder if they recorded any material in the past together? They certainly should consider it and we would be in for a treat if it ever comes about in the future. Full marks are well deserved here and another spot-on reaction/rating again Don. Please keep rockin' dat country, dude.
@TheGarretdeas It seems everywhere Alison goes excellence and amazing artistry happens. I’m doing a reaction this weekend to Bonnie Raitt and Alison Krauss doing a song, and I can only imagine how that one’s gonna be. It will be up in about a month (sorry for the teaser), but this could become a category all its own-Alison & Co.!
That was awesome!! Don't get no better than Dolly Parton, I started watching her back in the late '60s on the Porter Wagoner show just after Norma Jean soooooo I guess that makes me old...I'm 58 and as Minnie Pearl says "I'm just so proud to be here " thanks for sharing Don and as always you know "Howdy from Texas "!!!
Wow. just amazing. Thank you, I know the song from Kenny singing it, but hearing it sung by Alison and Dolly was just beautiful. I was not aware of this performance. Thank you for bringing it to our attention.
This was so beautiful. I noticed that Dolly got a little teary-eyed, so I thought this was done after Kenny died, but he was there. I'm having a little trouble re-reading this. Can't quite see the type.
Beautiful song by the one and only Kenny Rogers sang by 2 greatest voices of Dolly and Alison . Nothing could go wrong. Thanks for true n real reaction.
Such an awe inspiring performance of this song and sung by two legendary female country/bluegrass singers and while I was watching this performance and I know that you rate the song/videos most of the time I was saying that this has to be a ten come on Don if this isn’t a ten then what is and you passed the test with flying colors my man and made so proud to be a subscriber to the channel because you didn’t grew up on traditional country music but still with the help from the subscribers to the channel including myself in a small way to educate your ear to the sounds of traditional country music and when it sounds good it sounds real good because it’s about real life and three chords and the truth
!MrJeffreywhp That happened to me when I was editing this video--at one point I wasn't sure who was singing and had to look at the screen. Shocked me that I couldn't tell them apart in that moment. Most moments I can, but once in a while they sure sound alike.
Dolly included a great solo version of this song on her HERE YOU COME AGAIN album in 1977.
Nothing could go wrong with this arrangement! Love this! Awesome sauce! Love and hugs for all~stay safe!

You should do a search for Dolly's reactions on RUclips to people covering her songs, she's so supportive of them.
Kenny wrote it for Jesse Colter about her husband Waylon Jennings.

He wrote about Waylon in the beginning by the end it was about him .
Such a great rendition of this song. Allison always gives me goosebumps. What I wouldn't give to have been there to see this live
A perfect 10 for each one of them❤
