I'm not the biggest country music fan, but always respected her talent and being so sharp and having such a wise perspective on the business and life in general, such a class act. and that little ditty she just threw out like it was nothing is better than most of the so-called country music you'll hear now on the radio.
Fast-forward to August 2023 and Dolly Parton is as true to herself as ever. I grew up not too far away from her hometown and I spent a lot of time in that area. Dolly's a wonderful humanitarian. In 2016 wildfires spread throughout Gatlinburg and the surrounding areas and it was a tragedy of immense proportions. It was I believe the first time anyone in the area had ever seen wildfires there. It affected homes , businesses and the flora and fauna terribly. Some didn't get out in time. Dolly jumped in off the bat and she put together a program that compensated the people who needed help monetarily. She's a "juggernaut" for good when people are in need. We'll always be proud of Dolly Parton. She's strong, smart, confident and honest. How many celebs can you say that about? 🧡
The best part of her character is how humble she is. She's never forgotten where she came from. She grew up poor but so rich in the way that matters. The 1st time I heard her sing in the 60s I fell in love ❤
I got to meet Dolly at Dollywood when I was a kid. She was busy, on her way out the door to a photoshoot but didn’t care to stop, smile and speak to a 6 year old me standing in her way! 😄 I’ll always treasure that moment! 💕
High respect for both Johnny and Dolly, two class acts. Johnny departed our world to soon, I’m glad I grew up watching him on late night, there truly was nobody better!
I was almost to young but I do remember Johnny's Moontang episode. The more I learn about Dolly the more I love her and old country, and dislike all this new noise.
@Paul Rogers All aboard on the Starship Nostalgia to take us all to Planet Vintage. Classic commercials included. No assembly required. Mobile devices prohibited. Playing in the mud like children strongly encouraged.
Her looks were always just the icing on the cake. She's as talented as any great singer song writer and can light up anytime anywhere. Long live the Queen.
@Chris Hirner Yes sir, for at least being a baby boomer [minimum] , we had these great memories FIRST HAND ! Now everybody gets to "taste" these vintage moments thanks to social media no matter their age. I would rather keep my age than to be this generation without the use of critical thinking and thick skinned attitude.
I saw a video in which a person in another country encountered her in a small pub when she was traveling abroad and the small band asked her to sing a song. She gracefully accepted and did an impromptu performance which was near studio quality. That is the mark of true talent.
A lucky kid from Nebraska and a lovely young lady from Tennessee chatting together. You can tell they both realize how lucky they were to be in the places in life at that time. It's such a great interview of celebrities who were still grounded. Wish we'd see more of this now.
Many of today's celebrities feel self entitled and they deserve everything they have. In fact, they feel like they had to wait too long for the fame they have. No humility and no sense of hard work.
They were both not afraid of hard work. And of course they had the raw talent to succeed - and the belief system it took to carry on. Their generation did not believe in giving everyone a 🍭 for just existing !! You fell down , stop crying and get back up !
This is from when Dolly Parton was starting to become the well known star that she is. But she became something more than that over the years. She became America's angel. Her personality is inviting and jubilant and he talent is phenomenal. But you can tell that if she never became a star and never left her small hometown in Tennessee she would still have been just as important and inspiring to all that knew her just as she is to us today.
she's fricken crafty i'll say that! to fret those chords with her fingertips almost flat on the fretboard with those long nails..that's a skill right there!! she's amazing, love her energy!!
I love, love, love that lady. My kids learned to read because of the beautiful soul, Dolly. Funny, smart and downright charming to everyone she meets. She has a special way of making everyone feel special! Thank you and I love you Dolly.
I think the mental agility she demonstrates in her lyrics is a product of equal parts intelligence and truth. Each one facilitates the other. That's why she has a catalogue of thousands of songs.
Johnny felt just like a friend. I was young when he was on, and still in school, so his show was too late for me, but when school was on break and especially summer vacation I'd hardly miss an episode. Dolly is a sweetheart.
The thing about Dolly...is I can't stop smiling whenever I watch her speak or perform. She does have a very bright light in her soul that draws you in...
Thank you for posting this two days ago. Growing up in Austria we didn't have Johnny Carson on TV. He was the trail blazer for late night TV. Thanks to RUclips everyone can enjoy. Having Dolly Parton as a guest made it extra special. A talent like hers comes along only once in a lifetime.
@@karlheinzegger4534 I mis quoted. I think green flash at the last part of sunset is what they were talking about. Anyway thanks for your answer I was not sure. You know how rumors get started and keep going.
I can only imagine the struggles she and her family went through to survive. All the blessings to her, to all who never give up and choose to shine their light into this harsh reality. A true angel on earth!
Right but would her family be so musical if they grew up with the internet, tvs, streaming platforms.? They created their own entertainment, honing their skills from a young age and learning from their elders. There obviously was no lack of love in that house.
I agree with everyone else: Dolly is intelligent, witty, talented and beautiful... BUT HELLO, HOW is she able to play guitar with those nails?! She blows me away.

When asked if she minded that Whitney did it, she in typical Dolly fashion, said something like, "Heck no, she's made me a boat load of money."
Only heard of Dolly when I was young and never seen her until this show. What a fantastic personality she has, makes you feel good just looking at her and listening. For sure the world needs more Dolly Partons.
Did this bring tears to anyone's eyes like it did for me? These are 2 exeptional people here. Dolly could not be any sweeter, down to Earth, or more humble for the mega-star she is. She does so much for charities where it counts, and starts her own when she sees a need. As for talent... she suprises everyone and is blessed with more talent than most people could handle. Johnny is so gracious and always a gentleman. What a role model, always calm and polite. I can imagine how he must have felt when Dolly played the song she wrote for him... basically attributing all of her massive success to Johnny. He probably wasnt expecting that, and was probably taken with emotion during the song. But! In the true perfection of the craft developed over many years.. he lightens the moment with an unexpected creme pie turning the sublime into the ridiculous, in a way that only Johnny can. Was that ride worth the price of admission or what!
I've never seen an interview with such warmth and genuine love (in a friendly way) between two people - it's just great to see but as for Dolly .... what a woman, what a person.
Johnny Carson is someone who makes celebrities feel like normal people and breath the clean farm air. There's no doubt he was a friend to many of them.
Wow ... that was GREAT. So great to see them together at the apex of their careers. Johnny WAS "late night TV" ... no one will EVER be close to his talent. Dolly is just so down to earth & real. So glad I was able to see this moment on YT.
I so love this woman; that voice! Even today she has a project sending books to children all across the USA, quietly doing whatever she can for people. I also teared up because just like so many I grew up to know, I will one day wake up to hear she has departed. I feel some kind of pain about this whole business of human existence. Oh well
me too..well, we try to help each other best we can.we are famous among our family and friends. If somebody who has a lot of money does that out of the goodness of their heart,we take notice. Dolly has a heart of gold too
This is Easter Sunday 2022. We think it is all about Bunnies and Flowers and eggs; It is about victory over death! Dolly does know what it is about. The outer shell deteriorates and dissipates until it is dust but the inner man becomes complete and will live eternally with The Most High God where all will be complete and perfect. Jesus resurrection into a body that was not subject to decay or falling into the sinful traps we are bound to do. Victory over death means only to ask Him and be transformed into eternal life. Yes, Virginia, there is a Heaven to gain and a Hell to avoid. Don't let pride cause you to miss out!

I rembered some of Becky's comments , but not all . Thanks 2 u Becky S .!*****
Wow!
I'm not the biggest country music fan, but always respected her talent and being so sharp and having such a wise perspective on the business and life in general, such a class act. and that little ditty she just threw out like it was nothing is better than most of the so-called country music you'll hear now on the radio.
That's more "folk" than country.
@HomeSchooler94 Was Jim Croce country?
It was light years better!
@@SingleTax Jim Croce was folk rock.
@HomeSchooler94 Imagine if he had lived long enough to collaborate with Dolly on a few songs. That would have been musical magic.
Totally agree. She has done so much good in her life. This Aussie loves her, and her good works.
The best part of her character is how humble she is. She's never forgotten where she came from.
She grew up poor but so rich in the way that matters.
The 1st time I heard her sing in the 60s I fell in love ❤
Dolly Parton a.k.a. Heaven's Gate
She is so incredibly likable. I cry happy tears when she sings.
I got to meet Dolly at Dollywood when I was a kid. She was busy, on her way out the door to a photoshoot but didn’t care to stop, smile and speak to a 6 year old me standing in her way! 😄 I’ll always treasure that moment! 💕
That is great, she truly does have love for people in her heart.
Simple Man she really does! She’s done so much for the people of Sevierville and Tennessee especially!
Everyone Everything Millennium
@@sherryhendershot9876 ?
How she plays with nails that long is beyond anyone. Even with all her tricks (open tunings, capos) that’s still mind blowing….
@@simpleman283
As good as she is at Country, she’s even better at Bluegrass!
@@bodarville2510 Even more to love. 👍
It was "those damn cigarettes" he called them.
He was 80 when he passed tho right??
Dolly is one of my favorites. Johnny will never be replaced as late night again…he’s the original.
One of the very few celebrities that deserves every bit of her fame.
Pure total class. So glad I lived in a time to see it on a daily basis. Part of me weeps daily that it has disappeared.
@Paul Rogers All aboard on the Starship Nostalgia to take us all to Planet Vintage. Classic commercials included. No assembly required. Mobile devices prohibited. Playing in the mud like children strongly encouraged.
Thank you for a beautiful comment, I appreciate the love and support of my music
Her looks were always just the icing on the cake. She's as talented as any great singer song writer and can light up anytime anywhere. Long live the Queen.
2 of the great talents in American history. Actually heartwarming.
Yeah, and Johnny's not bad either!

If there is a greater woman country singer than Dolly I have never seen them or heard them.
@@obionekenobi7401 Obioneinch you 😈👍😉
Dolly is such a real, genuine person. She is wonderful.
I watch these old videos and my heart yearns for the America that once was.
When people came from communities before greed had a chance to kill the lifestyle.
You Nailed it!!!
I’m Irish and I feel the same way
I know what you mean. They were simpler times with days full of fun with friends and family.
Me too and I'm not even American.
She's so humble and grateful... giving props to Carson for her success. This is why we love Dolly!
a small blessing from being our age is the memory of Johnny Carson
...and Dolly is a big blessing for all!!
My husband and I were just saying that last night. He wasn't perfect, but the show was classy.
Definition of charming:
Dolly Parton.
She brings wonderful music, humor, charm, and fun everywhere she goes. I will always love you, Dolly!
💜💜💜
That was spot on.
Hello friend
Absolutely! Dolly is one-of-a kind. ❤👏
@@waynej2608 okay are you on Google hangout so we can talk
What a beautiful thank-you! She never forgets or fails to appreciate those who helped her when she was a beginner.
Hello 👋how’re you doing?
I saw a video in which a person in another country encountered her in a small pub when she was traveling abroad and the small band asked her to sing a song. She gracefully accepted and did an impromptu performance which was near studio quality. That is the mark of true talent.
Ya I think the video you are talking about is the one where she is singing in a pub in Co. Kerry, Ireland.
A lucky kid from Nebraska and a lovely young lady from Tennessee chatting together. You can tell they both realize how lucky they were to be in the places in life at that time. It's such a great interview of celebrities who were still grounded. Wish we'd see more of this now.
Born in Iowa and nurtured in Nebraska. A treasure to the nation. As is Dolly. Neither of these stars will be replaced any time soon.
There’s no comparison with the stars of today, they are so fake and think they are above everyone else 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Dolly's a total pro. Every movement every gesture. She's in peak form. And musically she's all over it. Impressive! I tip my hat to you Dolly!
Dolly your heart is out of this world XXXXXXL!
She lets out of this world love in. 👍❤✌
Simple Man. Yes she does and I need her to stick around for another 100 years!

Down here in the Caribbean we love Dolly all
What a knock out! So smart sweet and talented! Drop dead gorgeous as well!
I love Dolly and Johnny, rest his soul, is the greatest talk show host there will ever be.
What a woman. So glad she is still a cultural icon today, she has a very important voice.
Johnny was at his peak here .Dolly sweet as always.
holy lord, how is she doing all that on her guitar with those nails? she's always had talent, thats for sure
Those nails represent 10 guitar picks lol
she's fricken crafty i'll say that! to fret those chords with her fingertips almost flat on the fretboard with those long nails..that's a skill right there!! she's amazing, love her energy!!
I love, love, love that lady. My kids learned to read because of the beautiful soul, Dolly. Funny, smart and downright charming to everyone she meets. She has a special way of making everyone feel special! Thank you and I love you Dolly.
She is still a sweetheart all these years later.
More so now than ever.
She has always been so nice and kind. Also photogenic. She was 33 here and looks 22!
And now she's 75 and looks 45
I like Dolly but she doesn't look 22 at all. She looks 33, and that's completely fine.
OMG she is such a sweetheart!!! More people need to be like her.
The thing about Dolly...is I can't stop smiling whenever I watch her speak or perform. She does have a very bright light in her soul that draws you in...
Dolly is a National Treasure. The greatest female songwriter in Country Music history.
I'm all for Dolly and Johnny but since you are from Austria I just wanted to ask you if you have ever heard of or seen a green sunset.
@@simpleman283 I am not familiar with that term. Never heard of it. Never seen one.
@@karlheinzegger4534 I mis quoted. I think green flash at the last part of sunset is what they were talking about. Anyway thanks for your answer I was not sure. You know how rumors get started and keep going.
The best statement all day long, so true!!
She’s able to turn her accent into an instrument. This is impressive.
I still get teary eyed. She is the best.
Hello Becky, how are you doing?
The song was great, but I was amazed how well she could play the guitar with those extra long nails!!
Yup, built in fingerpicks.
I was thinking the exact same thing. She is incredible
Impressive
@@billgreen6263 It's the fretting hand that I'm picking my jaw up off the ground about.
@@BZB33 Yes amazing how clean she can fret the notes and chords with those nails. Dolly is amazing!
Those nails are her picks! I had no idea she could even play guitar!
Loved her in 9 to 5!
@@georgehenderson7783 yes but her left hand that makes the chords.. how she holds down the strings without causing muted strings or buzzing is some talent, lol
I have said this for years. The picking hand is one thing but the fretting hand? I keep my fretting hand nails trimmed to the quick.
@@georgehenderson7783 Yo didn't know she could play guitar? She's amazing. Did you know she wrote the "Whitney Houston" song AND I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU? Look it up, I love the way Dolly does it better. It's a sweeter gentler version.
When asked if she minded that Whitney did it, she in typical Dolly fashion, said something like, "Heck no, she's made me a boat load of money."
Possibly open G is the secret..I'm at 1:50 I'll check out the rest.
She’s so dang talented. It’s like music just flows out of her brain
What an adorable song!🥰 Dolly is so precious and I love that she and Johnny seem to have such a funny and kind friendship.💕
Wow. That’s about the sweetest thing I’ve ever seen on this show
Only heard of Dolly when I was young and never seen her until this show. What a fantastic personality she has, makes you feel good just looking at her and listening. For sure the world needs more Dolly Partons.
...But there's only one.
Perhaps as much authenticity, sincerity, talent, beauty, and charitable spirit has never been embodied in one person so gracefully.
Did this bring tears to anyone's eyes like it did for me? These are 2 exeptional people here. Dolly could not be any sweeter, down to Earth, or more humble for the mega-star she is. She does so much for charities where it counts, and starts her own when she sees a need. As for
talent... she suprises everyone and is blessed with more talent than most people could handle.
Yes. I remember seeing it the first time, and rewatching it now. Beautiful and memorable gesture. Johnny was clearly overcome. And deeply touched.
He really did, didn’t he? What a pro, probably didn’t want to cry, so made a funny joke instead!
This lady fills me with joy EVRY TIME I see her. She truly is a national treasure.
I enjoy anything what Dolly does. Thanks so much. Nice to see Johnny again. RIP Johnny.

I've never seen an interview with such warmth and genuine love (in a friendly way) between two people - it's just great to see but as for Dolly .... what a woman, what a person.
Awww, that's sweet of her......lucky you, Johnny!!!

Wow ... that was GREAT.
Oh well
