I saw her at my High school. I didn't even know I would be going there, it was my first year. I was 16 yrs.old. She and George Jones, several country singers. It was a good night. George wrote his name on my arm. When i took a bath I'd hold my arm out of the tub. Took weeks to wear off.😃

Oh wow! Although many years back I saw Tammys UK Wembley concert with Glen Campbell and Kenny Rogers I wasn't a die hard country fan (and only went because my friend had been let down by someone else). To my surprise Tammy completely owned the stage even though she was very frail by then and had to perform seated most of the time. She still had that voice though and I amazed myself that I'd truly enjoyed my night out and started to appreciate country much more! I'm now 66 and of late have found myself watching some really interesting Country music documentaries which here in the UK we don't get too many of (more's the pity) and a constant presence in those is Dolly Parton - how does a powerful voice like hers come from such a little blonde (self deprecating) pocket rocket. This showcases Dolly's voice as I've never heard before and is a fitting tribute to Tammys memory. R. I. P: TAMMY, GLEN AND KENNY Dolly, you'd better stay around for a lot longer please 😌 🌹👍😌!

Some actually are quite talented, but only a couple have the class to be called great. As another commenter already said : I thank the Lord who let me live the 60s thru the 70s and most of maybe the 80s , before "city-fied" country took over .... Too any "crossover" artists, not really consistently country, and those who are country don't get appreciated.

Poor Dolly she seems broke up, hesitating now and then throughout her speech. Great gals. Loretta too, sad she couldn't make it, she all broke up too. Country is always my favorite, grew up with it in my parents home. My daddy would put those same Albums on every weekend. Dolly's sounds are of gospel from them old Tennessee hills.

Honoring praise, so magnificent to see this in April, 2020: Blessings All! I remember how popular Tammy was in Lubbock in the mid 1960's when I went into the service and how she inspired us as we were deployed in 1967.

Beautiful tribute from Dolly to her friend Tammy. SHINE ON. You know, today I was in a store and I saw some tiny chimes with sayings on them. They were tiny angels with woodland animals. The one that called to me was the angel and owl with the words - Shine On. I had to get it in memory of my beautiful mother. Her spirit animal was the owl. And tonight I randomly came across this video for the first time. SHINE ON. I do believe in angels, because my mother is one now. SHINE ON.

Dolly Parton has always been a classy, caring lady. She's gorgeous and has an even more beautiful heart. How she managed to perform in this situation boggles my mind - her voice never faltered. She certainly made Tammy proud! I cannot imagine a better tribute.

I remember watching this back then. Not too many left now these days. Back when there were just so many to listen to. They were all great and had a sound all their own. Daddy spent a lot of time in Nashville being from the area, and met and made friends with several singers and their band members. And we spent every Saturday night listening to the Grand Ole Opry on the radio. Visited both the RA and the new place many times. But Those days are gone, and I have to wonder like George Jones said...Who’s gonna fill their shoes.

Only someone who knows how to inspire joy in people can touch the heart and move tears, and not everyone has that gift from God, but Dolly Parton has that gift. Moved me to tears with this song because of the wonderful singer and woman who was dear to everyone, Tammy will live forever in our hearts. She also moved me to tears over the only sister I lost a couple of years ago. Dolly God forbid you encourage people to tears and joy for a long time. Love you , yours Eli. from Switzerland( and Croatia).🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

For all the comments about “Shine On” being “Amazing Grace,” you are half right. “Shine On” is an original composition by Dolly Parton published by her Velvet Apple Music. The tune of “Shine On” is the tune of “Amazing Grace.”
“Amazing Grace” was written before 1922 and therefore is part of the Public Domain in the United States. Works that are part of the Public Domain can be “arranged by” an artist and published without any copyright infringement on the original work.
