  • Hey Guys, Jack Here.
Thank you for joining me for another TRC video.
    www.therazorco...
Today I wanted to discuss something we get asked a lot.
    Which soaps last the longest?
This is a multi-faceted discussion and I touched on all of the points in the video.
Firstly, what types of soaps are there?
    Triple-milled soaps, creams, croaps etc.?
Generally, the soaps that have the greatest longevity are triple-milled soaps. They are harder and will typically take longer to finish in their entirety.
Another point I touched on in the video is whether soap longevity is important or not?
For the average person who has identified wetshaving as a way to save money and will only use one soap at a time, absolutely. For the hobbyist shaver who uses many soaps at a time - not so much.
Even if you're in the former category and you want to save money by shaving with traditional products, The biggest bit of advice I can give you is to not sell yourself short with the amount of soap/cream you're using. As you're learning, part of that learning is to understand a gauge how much soap you need to perform your shaving routine.
I wouldn't recommend skimping on the amount of soap you're using for each of your shaves. Use as much as you need to get a comfortable shave and enough lather to perform the number of passes you prefer.
Soaps that will last you a while:
    Martin De Candre
    Mitchell's Wool Fat
    Stirling Soap Company
    345 Soap Co.
    Soap Commander
    Saponaficio Varesino
Here's what I used in todays video:
    Razor: Edwin Jagger DE89
    Blade: Polsilver Super Iriduu
Brush: Semogue Owners Clb 'Taj Resin' Boar Brush
    Soap: Mitchell's Wool Fat
    Post: Zingari Man Post-Shave Balm

Cracks me up when you said...."When something is very very hard, that means something." and you crack a smile like oops, the comment section. I shave with Mitchell's tonight, good stuff.

I wish I’d seen a video like this a year ago. Would have saved me some fretting over never using all the soap I own lol.
If I may add: Stirling is a great recommendation. New shavers (or anyone really) should know that they have a beef tallow base and a mutton tallow base. The mutton tallow is a few notches higher in performance, and includes one of my fave Stirling scents, Glastonbury (also Sheep, Scots Pine Sheep, Electric Sheep, and Varen). I wish Stirling made more scents in mutton!

Great shave and discussion Jack! Longevity can also be measured by how many soaps we have in the den, I’ve only managed to kill 3 artisan soaps in 7 years... most of my soaps barely have a dent in them.

@@TheVirtualGroomroom you’re most welcome! And you’re right, they do... I don’t think any of us have a shortage of soaps lol.

Nice discussion bro. I agree with your views on this topic. Value is found in the quality of the shaving experience day in and day out.

Nice shave and video Jack. The other nice thing about Stirling are their 1oz samples. You can affordably buy quite a few of those to find a scent you really like, and then be confident to commit to a full tub you'll happily use for awhile. The 'worst' thing is getting a full tub of something with a scent that you don't like, or flat out despise....

... And the answer is? ? Only very few of us have counted and measured to know how long does a shave soap last. I made a small number of these studies and posted them to my channel. How many shaves per puck depends on the particular product and how much a person uses in a typical shave. I am finishing checking another soap now, and it appears to be that I did 163 shaves and used 70 grams. I have not yet finished the whole puck; I still have a few grams more to go. This one is firm but moldable. How many shaves can you do with a puck of Mitchell's WoolFat Soap?
