You see these rare items in books, catalogues, etc. for years and years....and you NEVER imagine that you'll EVER see the real item in person. But then, you get a rare chance to do so...and it's FANTASTIC. I"ve seen copper 1943 pennies, an inverted Jennie (twice), and other rare things and it's been incredible. Graham, I've enjoyed your channel. It's fun to find someone else who enjoys stamps as much as I. About 5 years ago I went to the APS stamp show here in Columbus, Ohio and met Trish Kaufmann in person. I collect civil war stamps among many others. I would so like a CSA10 but it is rare and hugely expensive. She was so nice. I have been collecting for 40+ years but I am a relatively unknown collector. She allowed me to look through her stock book at 3, CSA10's. It was the thrill of a lifetime to meet such a titan of collecting and see those stamps. Recently, I bought a large international collection and have been adding my stock to it. I love the excellent engraving of the late 19th and early 20th centuries of many countries. The art of the engravings is incredible. Keep up the good work. I like how you keep the channel light but still educational. Regards
Graham, I made a big deal about the Columbus stamp show and I just caught the video you made of the show titled, "Visiting a stamp show". I walked some of the same rows and booths. Well maybe next time we'll happen to run into each other. I really enjoy the videos. Thanks for keeping stamp collecting fun.
Lovely video again, Graham and it was such a thrill to meet yourself and Laura on the 30th September at Stampex. I managed to buy 2 sets of the Singapore New Constitution stamps (one mint and one used) that you may remember was on my shopping list, as a result of your recent video on Singapore and Straits Settlements. I also managed to buy my three missing GB penny red plate numbers from BBStamps - now missing only one (plate 225) which I could not afford on the day !! SDo pleased you enjoyed the show and managed to fit so much in on your short trip!
Thank you Ian, it was great meeting you as well!! Great to see that you managed to pick up those Singapore New Constitution stamps, AND make some excellent progress on your Penny Reds. A productive trip indeed. 😊
Recently discovered your channel and philately, I am at awe and now in love with stamps and the stories they all have! More young people like me need to discover philately!
Loved your snapshot of Stampex; I hope to make it to next year's Stampex. A few years ago when I and my wife vacationed in London we also went to the British Library and spent time looking at their wonderful stamp collection; a person almost needs an entire day to visit this part of the library. You are so lucky to see first hand some amazing philatelic treasures. It looks like the auction book you brought back with you is a collection piece by itself! You're also very luck to have a wife who seems to enjoy your hobby as much as you do! Thanks for this Stampex review.
Thank you Gary. 😊. You are absolutely right, there is a lot to explore in the BL philatelic collections, you could totally make it a day long event (Laura and I pretty much did). I think you will enjoy the next video, coming soon!
I have subscribed today as I love your enthusiasm and understated knowledge. Most philatelic channels are mainly for entertainment and full of inaccuracies so that spoils them for me. Your videos are very entertaining but still very informative and I think that you have the best stamp channel around. Great to see you cover Stampex, it's been years since I went to one but you've piqued my interest again. I remember a couple of very similar, simple philatelic history books my Dad shared with me as a kid, great memories of poring over them learning about the earliest days of stamps 👍

Nice to see this video on Stampex. I have never attended any stamp show in my life, and this video makes me want to plan my next trip around a stamp show. Good that you can travel freely to London!

@@ExploringStamps Yes, I will check out the stamp shows that are available when I plan my next trip. Is there any website that lists upcoming major stamp shows worldwide? I am based in Asia, so there may not be many physical stamp shows nearby for now unless I travel to Europe or US. 1:25 LOL. Graham looking over his shoulder. Scared of Laura? I remember episode 19 at 11:20 of that video where Laura says No travel and no buying expensive stamps. What does he do. Travel to London and buys a Penny Black.
I got my particular one for under £300, they vary of course depending on condition, you can view some of the prices here: mulreadyphilatelics.co.uk/page/2/?post_type=product&s=mulready
I bought a very nice 2d blue Mulready cover at Corbitts Auctions based in Newcastle, England about 5 years ago. It was in mint unused condition and only cost me £100 which I thought was very reasonable as I have always wanted to own one since a small boy. A used one with a fine Maltese Cross would have cost me more but I was happy to finally fulfill a dream. I also bought some nice 4 margin penny blacks on cover at the same time which all cost under £200 each. So I bust my budget (again!) but went home happy regardless.
Postex Stamp Show in the Netherlands starting Friday 15.10 through Saturday 16.10. May be also interesting for some of the viewers from the Netherlands!
Not at all. I wouldn't support international shows that have FIP backing, they are more and more disastrous. The FIP is failing to take the necessary efforts to advance the hobby. They have a lot to learn from PTS and APS.
@@markusbose7786 Yeah I'm def not a fan of the FIP at the moment, they are so far behind and give me a reason to avoid int shows as well. But I hope the show is a success for the sake of philately.
@@markusbose7786 now that’s a hot take and a half! At times the contrary is true as well. But haters going to hate I guess, nothing wrong with the FIP or specialised organised philately in general. The last few shows I’ve been to: Wuhan 2019, Monacophil 2019 and Stockholmia 2019 have all be roaring successes and I’m looking forward to visiting further international shows in the future. It truly is a worldwide hobby.

Nice hoody!
😊 Thank you!

Postex Stamp Show in the Netherlands starting Friday 15.10 through Saturday 16.10. May be also interesting for some of the viewers from the Netherlands!
Yes! I just saw that this is happening, anyone in the Netherlands reading this must try to attend, it sounds excellent! 🇳🇱 Thank you Hans.
انا عندي طوابع قديمة منها عثمانية هل استطيع ارسالها لكي تقيمها
Just wait until London 2022 which will be 10x better
I won't be going to that, but maybe STAMPEX again next Sept 🤞
