  • In this episode, I travel from Princeton, BC, camp at Kentucky Alleyne Provincial Park and end up in Merritt, BC, where the Sutra gets a bit of an upgrade. It was at this point in my journey that I realized that I wasn't eating enough food and started getting lethargic one day (did I bonk?).

    To help with climbing on a touring bicycle I run a 40-30-22 crank set and run it with a 11-34 cassette I can pull a heavy bicycle loaded up to the max with eas. It maybe a little slower but sure does help a lot.

    I bonked on a much shorter ride. I wanted to have a big dinner, so didn't snack for awhile. It was a total effort to pedal and i fell into the weirdest depression.
    It finally occurred to me that it might be low blood sugar and i ate a snack.
    I could just feel the energy start to return, i was amazed at how simple my "cure"was

      @@WheelsonaBike If you reduce your carbs, and increase your consumption of meat and eggs you'll feel a lot better. Carbs make you feel hungry again quite quickly. Hope you are feeling well, all the best. Greetings from Belgium.

    Another awesome video Agnieszka! I find it super helpful that you keep it real by showing ALL the ups & downs (quitel iterally), the full spectrum. I love how you are sharing your learning as you go with complete honesty and frank directness! Great insights on the mental aspect, butthatalso goes along with the food/fueling which you have figured out and shared. "Cycling About" RUclips channel has mentioned that our Kona Sutra Touring Bikes are a bit under-geared for mountains. Glad that you fixed that with the help of such a reputable bike shop! I will definitely change mine if I wind up doing 'mountain climbing '. Thanks for the continued sharing of these amazing videos! Pedal On, strong (well fueled), Woman! May you continue to have many people sharing kindnesses and compassion as you wend your way assertively across this breathtakingly beautiful land!

    • @WheelsonaBike
      @WheelsonaBike  2 года назад

      I figure that I'd rather share the reality of my trip than sugarcoat the experience. It'd be easy to show the beautiful views and remove the tough times, but multi-month tours are full of tough times and it's a matter of overcoming the obstacles. Yes, agreed, Kona Sutra gearing is, in my opinion, under-geared for mountain climbing.

    I hope this means your journey can continue. I'm so happy to see you posting. I did notice in this video and in others that when you walk the bike you keep yourself between the bike and the road. I think you should keep the bike between you and the traffic. That way you can abandon the bike and jump off of the road if you need too. I'm sure you'll be rethinking your safety procedures going forward.

    • @WheelsonaBike
      @WheelsonaBike  2 года назад

      Yes, I walk the bike on my right. I tried walking it on the left, but I end up always dropping it as I can't seem to be able to balance it on that side. I'm afraid at this point, I'd cause an accident if I walked the bike on my left.

    Im thinking of getting a wahoo but hear it only runs about a day and that requires a lot of charge time or backup batteries for the wahoo, phone etc
    If you have a video on this or plan one then I can wait but curious because I want to take one on my first tour next month but do not want to have to spend everyday at a rest stop charging stuff?

      I have a power bank and charge both the Wahoo and my phone daily.
