    Invite the guys from Donut and challenge them between you on the gaming setup vs their fastest car. Same track, as I recognize they use the same track for their testing. Would be epic....just a thought

      That was my thought! They'd have the connections to pull a car to race, Austin has the tech, they take a day and run back to back and see what they can do!

    The tires can make a mass of difference just the tires are different than them on the race car and your car could be the difference between the times

    • @OtterlyInsane
      @OtterlyInsane 7 месяцев назад +12

      Tires definitely make a huge difference. If those are road tires there's a couple of seconds there.
      Standard seats and a seat belt will also make a huge difference against harness and a race seat as not only do you move less (which allows you to have better control), you'll feel the car much better which will gain you another few seconds.
      There's also a significant weight difference between a road car and the TCR - the TCR is lighter and more powerful than an RS3 or S3 - 300+kg.
      A 1:38 is probably not a million miles off a decent time given all that.

      To be honest, I think if he actually went all in, gutted all the useless stuff (like heavy seats etc), got better tires, and perhaps even if he had a pro next to him to point out areas he could improve in the first few laps. Then I think he could beat the sim racing time. He done really good, colour me impressed.

    The comment Austin made about the feedback through the wheel being better on the sim is interesting. During Covid lockdown, most racing series had an eSports series instead, and across the board the drivers said it took time to get used to the sim because almost all of the feedback you get from the seat and the road is transmitted through your hands instead, so it took a while to unlearn what they expected to feel through the wheel and react to the actual feeling through the wheel.

    That bundle is incredible for sim racing (It sure had better be for the price. lol) One thing it doesn't have that you could add to it for increased immersion that won't break the bank is adding a set of Buttkicker's to the rig so you get more of that 'seat of your pants' feel. Great video!

    The rig featured in this video is co-designed by Indianapolis 500 winner and IndyCar champion Tony Kanaan. Tony streams all the time on twitch (in Portuguese language, but he will interact with English speaking chatters in English) If sim racing interests you, II've been sim racing for around 20 years now (yes legit sims have been out that long) and I highly suggest iRacing and Assetto Corsa Copetitione for good multiplayer racing on PC, and you do NOT need a rig this extravagant to get started. You can buy a more simplistic wheel and pedal set that you can hook to a desk for around $200-500. Just figured I'd toss those few facts in for people who are at all curious. That being said, Austin, get a set of slicks to bolt on next time. Power is really nice, but GRIP is where lap time comes from. GREAT video.

  • @JohnnyStashh

    Hey Austin, your not trash on the track... you just drive safer in real life, than in the game. Also, you don't have the color-changing Race Line in real life, which helps you shave off those extra seconds per lap.

    Well when it comes to the race car vs the road car. Gearing in the transmission, the clutch, the weight, the tire, and engine specs are going to be very very different, and the tuning as well. The Racecar version of your car would burn way more fuel for the same distance than your street car. Only way I could see comparing it to the RL street car, would have a sim of the street car itself, with the specs matching for those particular details.

    • @gspr1ngen608
      @gspr1ngen608 7 месяцев назад +1

      yes exactly this is the only way to get a true comparison. i dont think he would have been 10 whole seconds behind the sim if the sim car was the exact same spec as his rl street car

    Here's the problem with this. In a racing sim you'll drive as hard as you can because there's no fear of crashing, etc. On the track in real life you won't drive as hard as you possibly could drive thay car around the track because you lack the experience

    the sim rig feels better because you would have alot more feel in your RS3 with a good alignment but you can't get that without at a minimum new top hats on your car. Audi doesn't allow camber adjustment so replacement top hats is how you get that and can replicate the feel of the sim race car. Also tires

    I've had a few racing setups, including my current one with a full on seat that I use in VR. IMO nothing is going to even come close to the real thing, you just don't get the feel, the jostling around, getting thrown back in your seat, the adrenaline when you are going 120+ mph. Plus I have NEVER driven a wheel that is anywhere near accurate to a real car, it's like the programmers never drove a real car in their life. Things like deadzones or having to steer too much or too little to turn and not scaling depending on your speed.

      You can build your own rig for $100 easily out of 2x4's. plywood, and a used (usually free) seat. I believe it was Inside Sim Racing that did this the video is called 'DIY Sim Racing Rig for under $100 by Inside Sim Racing'. I built one myself years ago that is still holding up with minimal skills and tools. They also did one built from 80/20 profile tubing and another one with PVC pipes. The best part of the DIY route is you can adjust everything to your specific needs and size then add pieces to it as you go.

    Should have tested out some baseline things like:
    -Timing a short part on the straight away of both sim and real life, to see if there is a huge time difference [Maybe the sim has a power limiter that could even the times a bit]
    -Verified stopping distance on the straight
    -Check the cars actual curb weight vs the sims curb weight [Power to weight ratio makes a huge difference, sim race cars may have weight reductions]
    -Verify the sim race car has 0 modifications including aero
    -Confirm that the real life tires are at the very least in the same category rating as the sim tires. Race slicks will clock in way faster times on the same car.

  • @slowlanegamer

    Honestly you’re not wrong. If you are not rich and really want to get into racing and car stuff. It’s prolly very close to the real thing buying the sim racing set up. Plus like you could always build or make your car more tuned up as you get extra money in real life. The issue with racing and doing track days is the tire replacement is outrageous for the average person as well as 🤷‍♂️ are you track driving your daily? Or do you have enough money to upkeep and have a car for racing?
    I think for most people 3k-7k on sim racing is the way to go for the most real experience that you can literally practice and do on a daily or weekly basis like every weekend and not go broke. I mean most people could prolly only hit the track at most once every few months realistically
