Dude I've watched like 3 or 4 of your videos. Really good stuff. You're really thorough. But if I have to listen to that intro and same 4 chords..... I WILL LITERALLY DIIIIEEEE!!! I hear it in my sleep.... I hear it, creeping up on me when I'm rinsing my hair in the shower.... i hear it behind me when I'm driving on a dark windy road.... dun nun dada dada, dun nun dada dada.!!

Oh man, I REALLY did not want to have to pull them and re-do the head gasket and this trick/tip will come in very handy in the very near future. Had new valve stem seals for over a year now and was just looking to buy new head gaskets. So glad you saved me nearly 200 bucks. I personally HATE RTV and have gasket making material just for these instances. We all do what we have to at the time I know, but, I am repulsed by mechanics that do these things. I've cleaned up after folks that do this and it really annoys the Fucc outta me.

Holy crap you actually have the RIGHT Trac forks too. So cool. Only on the 83+ models (11 and 1200) Subscribed cause never can have too many good tips. Loved this one.

Good idea. Clamp the bolt the other side it will be levering against the screwed in bolts then. Or better still drill two holes in a flat bar.. glad I seen this saves a lot of hassle and a £50 gasket.

Why not use compressed air to hold the valves shut? I've changed many a valve spring and/or valve stem seals using air.
That's also a great option, although if you have valvetrain issues (bent valve, damaged seat) then that method would not work whereas this method still would. I've actually done it both ways in the past.

I will be using this as a guide as I do valve seals fork seals and carbs on my gl1100 this winter, I've been riding it this summer but it smokes pretty bad until warmed up and has leaking fork seals and one carb leaks
Awesome to hear that my video will help you out Tony! Once I did the seals on mine, the smoking went away completely.
One thing to keep in mind is that with these boxer style engines, if you are using the side stand, some oil will remain up in the valve cover. This will cause the bike to smoke a bunch until that stuff is burned off. I always keep mine up on the center stand and it rarely smokes. If I don't start the bike for a while, the first time I fire it with choke it will smoke for a few moments and then once I roll the choke off it runs as clean as a whistle!
Bruh, I re-did my fork seals last year and do yourself a favor. Have the replacement Guide and Slide Bushing on hand. I replaced mine due to the wear and had to wait 2 weeks to get em. I bet I know which carb is leaking too. I re-did mine and bought new Shaft seals that do not come in Randakk's kit. They are on Ebay though from some dude in Wisconsin or Michigan. Do yourself another favor and buy em. Vacuum leaks happens from worn felt shaft seals. Do it right or do not do it at all. My 2c worth. Also I replaced my carb plastic tube between the adjoining carb with a brass one, additional cost from Randakk's too. But just call me anal, I know I am. It is not required though. You can re-use the plastic ones.

Does the rope you put in the cylinders need to be cotton? Can other rope materials be used?
I'd stick to materials like cotton as, if any ends up staying in the cylinder for some reason, it will burn off with combustion. Anything like nylon would run the risk of melting and then you'd have a bad time.

It's a catchy tune! I've had people complain about the "lo fi chill-hop beats" that I use in most of my videos so in this case I decided to write and record my own music. I've had a number of people say that the tune is a bit of an ear worm so I guess that means it ain't half bad!

Hey Joe, your best bet is to use something like cmsnl.com, look up your exact bike, get the exact part number you want, and then punch that part number into places like Amazon, Google, or ebay. I've had a number of people ask me this so it may be time for me to create a quick video of exactly how to do this. Would something like that help you?
Normally when the valve seals need done the engine needs a full decoke to remove the oil build up carbon the left bank cylinders usually the most choked caused by the bike being parked on side stand and oil seeping through.
This work was done as part of my $500 budget goldwing project. I had a bike all summer that ran perfectly, didn't smoke, and carried me thousands of kilometers. You can check those videos out on my channel. That being said, I will rebuild this motor one day! I also only ever use the center stand, so hopefully it's not so much a problem for me going forward.
