Just set mine first one up. Love it. Be careful picking hoses and such. Make sure it is heat rated. Some hoses are only for air vents in houses and not rated to carry heat like a dryer vent hose. Not all Dryer vent hoses were not created for higher heat. Use that short piece that probably came with it as the hose piece you always attach directly to the heater. It is insulated and heat rated to that device. Beware. What looks like it is all aluminum may not be or may be coated. Be careful. HIGH TEMPS can cause HARMFUL FUMES. Look for and read labels. Carbon Monoxide detector is good but not enough. Tapes are not all the same either and not a good idea applied near the source where it is much higher temps. Stay warm and breathing easy ;)
Hi. Im new to the diesel heater. The tubing got hot and my family couldnt stand the plastic smell that came throught the tubing. Is it because its NOT heat rated? Second, the temp was set to 23 Celcius (73 Fahrenheit) yet it kept turning off after 30mins... and tent was still not warm. Did it overheat at the units exit point and shut down? Thank you
Hey - I really appreciate this comment. It came at a good time too, cause I just tested and reviewed a new diesel heater. I checked on my hose and based on the item description, it should be rated high enough! Hopefully the info was accurate. But you are spot on that there is more to be aware of that just CO.
You have your heater on thermostat mode. Problem with that is the temperature sensor is at the display which is out side in the cold. The heater will always run on full blast since it will never reach the desired temp. You need to change it to manual or hertz mode.
So very helpful Michael to all those campers out there. I tell ya these companies should be sponsoring you! Also for a previous New Englander, you should be used to the 🥶. ❤
One thing I hate about cold weather camping....the COLD unless I can warm up. I don't have a rooftop tent and no use for a diesel heater but your review was great. I do have a Jackery 300 which I always travel with. My little rv has a propane heater.
Hello , you have to do a simple thing , the display has a built-in temperature sensor as it is cold outside it will walk all the time at full power .you have to extend the wire from the display and put it in the middle of the tent and. I did it and keeps the temperature set
It looks like your exhaust is blowing towards the heat exchanger intake blowing into your tent. That might explain the smell. It would be better to move the exhaust to the side or front. Or add a duct to the intake side.
Thanks, Scott! I will pay closer attention to that next time. I'm actually going to be testing out a new one tomorrow night so this comment came at a great time.
That was super helpful and thorough. Though I wish you could remember why you had to splice the 12 volt. I feel like I’ve gone through all the exact steps you have in purchasing (Jackery 300)(hope that’s powerful enough)and I’m at the point of starting mine up but it looks like we have the same 12v cord.
Probably to do with the rating of the cig plug, second one had a higher rating as heater can use up to 13 amps on start up due to glow plug. Standard cig plugs usually 8 to 10 amp rating.
Another item to look out for when using a cig plug from power station to run diesel heater is the danger of plug disconnecting due to slipping out or cable been tripped upon as loss of power can damage the motherboard of heater as it needs several minutes run time to cool down.
Love this! Do you know if it’s possible to have this setup but run the tube into the car? I’m planning to sleep in the car and would definitely have the windows cracked for ventilation (and a carbon monoxide monitor)! I also have a 670wh power station. Hoping that will be enough!
Thank you 😊 I don't see why not. You'd just hAve to figure out how to stick the tube through the window without having too much of a gap. Watch out for mice!
You're absolutely right. I hadn't used it in 2 years and forgot about a few of the settings 😆😆 That also explains why we woke up drowning in our own sweat 3x
Question, when you are running around outside does the campsite fill up with diesel exhaust smell, and can you smell the exhaust in your tent? From one roof top tent owner to another.
Hey 👋🏼 Around the campsite, the smell has been very minimal. It's most noticable when you first turn it on for 5 minutes then after that only if you're right by the exhaust. Inside the tent, there is no diesel smell but there is some kind of a smell that I can't describe. I'm not sure if it has to do with the vent we use. It's definitely not a diesel smell. I'm hoping we are safe.
@@MikeTrachtenberg We are new to the diesel heater and my family noticed that 'plastic' smell. We assumed it was due to the plastic tubing that came with the heater melting due to heat. They couldnt sleep with it and we were worried it was dangerous.
31.8……you liar!!!! 😂😂😂 that’s always the way it goes, it always changes it’s mind when you wanna show someone… Great review! I wasn’t aware the smaller jackery would power it up, I thought the initial start up would be too much, but it’s good to know I don’t have to throw down a bunch of cash for the bigger unit. I definitely need to invest in a diesel heater!!! Oops, looks like jackery is gonna be a pain……. I’ll take a look at the other power station anker
hahaha. The smaller Jackery can support up to 200W output and this diesel heater only pulled a max of about 120 watts in the initial heating phase so it can handle it! But the more Wh and wattage I suppose are a safer bet!
I don't know but I'm actually releasing a review of a new diesel heater on Friday. I tested it out last night and was shocked there was NO ticking sound!!
It doesn't. I believe it must just know the temp it's suppose to create. The numbers might not even be accurate so it might just be more like a hotter/colder kind of thing
That is not how this machine works 😉 You have set a fixed temperature, but the thermostat is on the heater body! Therefore it was almost certainly always running at 100% You can set a manual level, I usually set mine to the lowest possible. Opening ventilation is not reasonable, since the heater creates a overpressure anyway, so all you did was letting the hot air escape faster. The heater is constantly blowing fresh, but warmed, air in your tent.
I only say because I was curious about this for the longest time :) I figured it was just phrasing but wanted to make sure I didn't get ripped off haha@@MikeTrachtenberg
First class review on both items. You’ve sold me c1000 to power my heater. Thank you so much for your help 🏴 🇺🇸
Appreciate the kind comment! To date, the C1000 is still my favorite power station I've owned. I'm happy you found this helpful 🙌🏼

Oh yes. Great review! You had to cut off the first one because it was only rated for 100 watts. The end you put on is 120. The heater needs 120 watts.
Ahh, thanks. Yes, it was a while ago and I just couldn't remember but I knew I had a reason lol
Wow that’s so interesting

Great video what size piping did you end up using to clamp onto your heater? How long was it and where did you purchase that?
Thank you! It's a 3 inch dryer vent. I fixed the link in the description! It's 16 feet. Purchased from Amazon.

Got it! Did u put any dryee vest cap on it on the inside or just use the open pipe
Open pipe. Didn't really think about a cap. Might be a decent idea 🤔

I dont think they actually turn off, the fan speed just drops. It would be pretty inefficient to go through the start up process every time
