    When I was working in the oil fields of Alaska's Arctic, the rigs with auxiliary diesel heaters were running "Webasto" brand units. They seemed to be pretty reliable (overall).

    I used a 12 volt power supply 50 amp converter on my diesel heater vevor brand at -25 a few weeks ago. Smoked a bit but it ran good after a few minutes. I heard that it will send a test voltage draw prior to lighting the burner and if not enough amps it doesn't turn on.

      Yea - I think the 10A 12v from the power station is on the limit to be honest 🤔

    Hi Michael !! I built an insulated cab on my atv and bought a chinese diesel heater . Had problems with it ( codes), would not start. Went to my local truck dealer and bought a 2 kw webasto ( 1200.00 $) . I'm happy with it and starts even at -25 c. The important thing is to have enough amps for proper operation. Nonetheless, if I could fit a woodsove in my atv...I certainly " wood " !! Hahaha Take care mon ami !!

      Very cool!!! Or should that be very warm!!! 😄 The Webasto and other top brands are more reliable I've heard, and i know they are fitted to big trucks etc. I bet the cab build was a lot of work!!! I'd love to see a picture! 👍

    Great video again Michael 🤗 Maike and I had our Chinese Diesel Heater at a min. Of -12 C. It did work pretty good! But below -20 is maybe another level! The dry heat is really the best after a wet/snowy day.

    Great video. Expedition Upfitter sells Autoterm (formerly Planar) heaters in portable and installed types. They are made in Latvia (I think) so don’t sell for PRC prices.

    That’s a lot of equipment to carry to keep warm. And not full proof. I have been winter camping with groups in the very cold weather of Michigan and a lot of their diesel heaters had failed. Making them leave the next morning. I stuck it up for two nights sleeping inside the truck turning the truck on when I needed heat. But I can see the appeal of the diesel heater. Cheers MICHAEL awesome video as usual.

      I agree - I wouldn't rely on this product for heat - Give me a stove and some wood and I'm 100% I can survive the night 😄 Interesting that you have seen a few fail too 🤔

    Good review 👍😊 I’ve been thinking about that same heater for use on my outhouse shed. I’m using a propane sunflower heater right now and it works okay but I’d like something more efficient like a diesel heater with a blower motor like your heater

    The 8kw are always an issue you almost need it hooked up to your vehicle running until it’s started and glow plug is off then it can run. The 5kw is the way to go

    Hi Michael, I had to buy a AC to DC power supply because my Jackery has a 12v 10a outlet and they need 15a. I had the first two heaters fail from Amazon, the third one seems to work fine and it came straight from Vevor.

    • @TheEmporiumOutdoors
      @TheEmporiumOutdoors  8 месяцев назад +1

      I was thinking the same about the AC-DC power supply would be better BUT do you notice is pulls more power during running with it? I would expect some losses with the conversion.

    • @outdoors-with-Den

      My power supply arrives tomorrow, so Im not sure if it will draw more. until now I've been hooked directly to a deep cycle battery. @@TheEmporiumOutdoors

    I think you got a bit of a dud….
    I’ve worked with Webasto and Espar heaters in big trucks and they are decently reliable down to -40….
    Most give trouble when they are short cycled but if you let them come fully up to temp on every start they don’t carbon up the screen around the glow rod as fast…

    • @TheEmporiumOutdoors
      @TheEmporiumOutdoors  8 месяцев назад +1

      Yea - Im thinking the same. But I'm not sure I want to upgrade to a big brand for the costs. When it gets really cold, i'd rather be in a hot tent 😄

  • @redsorgum

    So, it’s a heater to help keep you warm in the cold, but it has trouble starting because it’s cold?…….🥶
