Thanks for the tutorial! My wife and I are really looking forward to starting our sublimation journey. Quick question though. If I were to waste the ink that came with the printer, rinse and dry the bottles, could I refill them with sub ink and use them to fill the printer with my sublimation ink? My ink didn’t have the same tops.
You’re welcome! That’s a good question, and I honestly don’t know. I’ve never heard of anyone trying that. You may want to use syringes to add it to the ink tanks if the bottles aren’t compatible.
@@DIYAlex I have one more question. I tried to sublimate on a rubbery/plastic material on the back of something I was working on. It took, but I thought I had my entire platen covered. I didn’t. It melted and is stuck to my platen. Do you have any clue how to get it off?
Admittedly jumped around a bit. Just to be clear, “converting” to sublimation is just using sublimation ink instead of regular laser ink? I expected there to be more to it than that. Thanks for the video.
I thought the video was going to tell you how to remove old in from the printer and “convert” it into a sublimation printer. Used printers come with ink already. Not sure how to convert a used Ecotank.
That's a good question! I haven't had to refill my tanks on my printers yet, but I would assume you'd need to get the ink started each time you refill the tanks, but it shouldn't take as much as it did the first time.
Thank you so much for the helpful video! Question, did you have to make a color profile? I'm also using StarCraft. My grays come out beige and my pictures come out a bit orangy. I tried printing both no color profile and with the recommended color settings. Any suggestions?
I did not create a color profile for my SC ink. I believe Starcraft is in the process of creating custom profiles for their ink, but I'm not sure what the timeline is going to be! Try adjusting the settings in your printer's settings.
Hi! Thanks for the video! I have a question! why do you recommend starcraft ink instead of the epson ink? I live in the Netherlands and here it is very expensive to buy starcraft, so would you recommend another ink?
Today I tried to convert an Epson Ecotank ET 2850. I am having trouble with the alignment. All of them have broken lines. I ran the clean nozzles 3 times and nothing changed. Do you have any suggestions? I feel like I wasted my money since I put Hiipoo sublimation ink it so the warranty is voided.
@@DIYAlex I called Epson support. When doing the first test that shows lines with the different colors, all my lines in black, magenta, and cyan were broken in many places, and the yellow never even printed. Epson tech told me to run the clean the heads & nozzle checks. She said to do it three times in total. if that doesn’t help, shut the printer down and try again the next day, but only up to 3 times. I have’s done it today because I was busy all day. She sent an email to run the head cleaning and nozzle chech up to three times. If it still is not working, try a power cleaning. If that doesn’t work I have to call the Epson Priority Line. I told her I was using their ink jet ink. I won’t be able to call the Priority Line, since I voided the warranty by using Hiipoo sublimation ink. Do you know of anyone else that had the same problem as I am having? If nothing works, I may just everything looks good and print out something on sub paper and see if looks okay after down loading the drivers on my printer.
You should stick with it at least until the tank is empty. If you decide to switch you may get some funky colors for the next several prints if you switch brands, but it can be done.
I put the ink that came with the printer before I realized that that is NOT the ink I need! How do I get that ink out of there and get the right ink in? HELP!!!
Thank you, well spoken, very clear. Enjoyed. It was a blessing fir me just starting out.
I love the clear straightforward way you present the information. An organised professional video
Thank you!
Your video was very helpful in setting up my printer. Thank you for sharing 👏🏾
Glad it was helpful!
Great job, Alex. thanks for taking the time to go through the entire set-up process, that was really helpful.
You're welcome! I hope it empowers those of you buying printers to not be as nervous as I was! LOL
Thanks Alex! Will definitely be using your tips when I (finally) get my machine out of the box!
I can't wait to see what you create!
Thanks so much this was a very helpful and detailed video.
Great tutorial! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for watching! 😊
Thanks so much! You were with me by video each step of the way to set up my printer :>) I truly appreciate it!!!
Yay I'm so glad to hear that! Great job!
Supper dupper easy thanks, cant wait to do mine when I get it
Yay! You're welcome! I'm sure you'll do great!

Correct! It's really that simple, except the sublimation ink replaces inkjet ink, not laser :)

I was wondering if there would be problems with the Epson Eco Tank conversion into sublimation. does the ink clog the system up?
Great tutorial! ALEX, I JUST BOUGHT AN EPSON WF 4833 PRINTER; CAN I CONVERT THIS PRINTER TO SUBLIMATION? I don't know if it has an eco-tank.
I’m not sure! Can you see the tanks in the front of the printer?
You made it look so easy. I have mine sitting in a box for 4 months. I have a st2000. Can you come set mine up. Lol
Lol! You can totally do it. I was super nervous too. That's what drove me to make this video!
Thank you so much for this! Just wondering, do you only need to charge your lines the once or each time you fill your tanks? Thanks :)

Hello, I was wondering if the printer can be converted once its already been used for regular printing use?
No, I never recommend that.
Hi! Thanks for the video! I have a question!
why do you recommend starcraft ink instead of the epson ink?
I live in the Netherlands and here it is very expensive to buy starcraft, so would you recommend another ink?
So far the only brands I’ve used are Starcraft and Hiippoo ink. Maybe Hiippoo would be easier for you to get! Mine is from Amazon.
so once the printer is converted, you can not use it to print just regular pages, with the sublimation ink?
Sublimation ink will make it look weird so I don't recommend using it for regular printing.

Have you gone all the way through the maintenance menu? There are usually some alignment and other things you can run to see if that helps!

Once adding the ink do you have to stick with that brand?
You should stick with it at least until the tank is empty. If you decide to switch you may get some funky colors for the next several prints if you switch brands, but it can be done.
Great info, but you forgot what may be a deal breaker for some. Once you add sublimation ink to the printer, you've voided the warranty.
That's a great point! Thanks for bringing it up.
I put the ink that came with the printer before I realized that that is NOT the ink I need! How do I get that ink out of there and get the right ink in? HELP!!!
I have never removed ink from a printer so I’m no help there. Sorry!
I really want to start doing practice for my daughter but scared to invest money to do all this and I mess up
That is always a risk with any new project, but don’t let that stop you from learning something new!
Epson now sells a sublimation printer - you no longer have to convert one
Nice! Whats the model and can you change the ink or does it have to be epson only?
The ones I just found on Google are like $15,000, so I think most of us will still be converting Ecotanks for a while! LOL
