    Clocks strikes upon the hour,
    And the sun begins to fade.
    Still enough time to figure out,
    How to chase my blues away.
    I've done alright up 'til now,
    It's the light of day that shows me how,
    And when the night falls, loneliness calls.
    (Chorus:)
    Oh! I wanna dance with somebody.
    I wanna feel the heat with somebody.
    Yeah! I wanna dance with somebody,
    With somebody who loves me. (x2)
    I've been in love and lost my senses,
    Spinning through the town.
    Sooner or later the fever ends,
    And I wind up feeling down.
    I need a man who'll take a chance,
    On a love that burns hot enough to last.
    So when the night falls,
    My lonely heart calls.
    (Chorus x2)
    Somebody who... Somebody who... somebody who loves me...
    Somebody who... Somebody who... to hold me in his arms...
    I need a man who'll take a chance,
    On a love that burns hot enough to last.
    So when the night falls,
    My lonely heart calls.

    I've entered the phase of memorizing how to play Paul's arrangement without the sheet music. All the comments are correct, this arrangement really is that good.

    Dude, you have a great sense of arranging for solo piano! You are proof that you dont need to cheapen the song with something like a drum machine, because you still capture the feel and groove of the original with just 2 hands. I enjoyed it very much and am learning a lot from you. thanks.

    All I have to say is Paul Wells really knows how to completely mesmerize his listening audience with his profound piano skills. I haven't heard a better rendition of the songs he plays. This man is truly an amazement. I absolutely love his tutorials. The only thing I wished was that his videos were either shot in 720p or 1080i HD. Once again...flat out amazing!!

    Paul, this is an example of why the Piano is the most universal instrument of all. You can capture the whole essence of a song and incorporate all of its parts and tones for a full complete picture. That mad bass tho!!🤤😳😳😳

    • @paulwwells
      @paulwwells  3 года назад +1

      Thank you Terrence. Yes, an orchestra at your fingertips, but it helps when the song gives you plenty of distinctive shape to work with as does this one.

    My words exactly. Being a pianist myself, I'm very fastidious when it comes to piano covers on RUclips. If I can play the songs much better myself, why come here? But Paul is simply amazing. His covers never let me down. They contain so many simultaneous layers that Bach and his fugues would be jealous, and Paul's two hands seamlessly jump between them. I especially loves his bass lines and the fact that he always stays true to the details of the melodies though he adds his own touch.

    Don't say that. The point is not that you follow anyone else's sound - the point is that you get a deeper appreciation for and tactile expression of a great song in a highly personal form.

      @jonathanblock1359 9 лет назад

      paulwwells
      You've got a split function enabled with the keyboard effect above middle c and a bass effect below it. As a player who wants to borrow from your excellent arrangement, its harder for me to hear what I'm looking for to borrow from the best parts of this.

    • @jonathanblock1359
      @jonathanblock1359 9 лет назад

      paulwwells
      Actually.. maybe its just the keyboard effect the whole way though. I can't quite work out if a split feature is active. What settings did you play this with?

    • @paulwwells
      @paulwwells  9 лет назад +3

      Jonathan Block You're right. It is split with a bass guitar added below and an electric piano added above. But I doubt they affect clarity. If anything the electric piano plunky transient adds definition to the start of the note although the chorus spreads it across the stereo field, and as for the bass you wouldn't hear anything without the added bass guitar. On a straight piano sound it isn't worth playing the bass line.

  • @sensitive416
    @sensitive416 4 года назад

    Really great cover, except you're not playing the song in the correct key. It's written and played in the key of F# Major. Looks like you're playing it in C Major (difficult to know, this is just a guess). But points for the technique and the arrangement. And like a few other comments here, I wish you had played it through to the end ---including the modulation after the pre-chorus.

    • @paulwwells
      @paulwwells  4 года назад +1

      Hi Sensitive416, thanks for your comment. Back in 2012 I didn't tend to bother to check the original key. Whitney Houston had died four weeks earlier and I wanted to push a cover out quickly so I probably just picked the easiest key. These days I check and match the original key because people want to learn and not just watch.

      in reality, are there original keys for this stuff? Every singer is different and keys must be adapted. I understand the concept of an original key if the song was written for a specific instrument like a tenor saxophone as it has the same range whatever person playing it. In this case, every renderation of the song will be in that specific key fitting the artist's voice.

    Nice job! Only thing is it's in the wrong key; the original key is F#, not G (yeah, I know F# is an odd key for a pop song, but that's the real key).
