Sounds great! Love R-Type. I typically play the original only on my PC Engine. I'm still new to the master system as I practically forgot it existed for years. Does not get the coverage I guess. Thanks for sharing.
I played R-Type for Master System a lot as a kid, with PSG sound, wasn't aware of FM music for SMS games till much later and this is the first time I've heard the R-Type FM music. I have played arcade R-Type many times so I know how the original music sounds generally better than PSG of course, but there were a few touches that may have improved upon the original e.g. I think even in PSG the boss music sounds a little better, the build up to main theme sounds more heavy metal i.e. like an electric guitar whereas it doesn't in the arcade boss music. The FM boss music retain that electric-guitar/metal sound. In short the SMS FM R-Type music sounds pretty close to the arcade music.
To me the brass in stage 1 theme sounded better in sms fm than on the og machibes fm ship. If you bought it as virtual console title on the wii in the west you had the option to turn the fm ost on. I think the sms model iii with fm capability only was released in Japan
Kinda sucks though cuz outside directly emulating Arcade the best port was Turbografx16 that had no fm. Theres a japan only cd-engine release with enhanced music, but some of the compositions are…bold to put it nicely
Generally, Master System games are much quieter than Genesis games, so I did have to record this at a higher volume level than usual, so you might be able to hear some background noise from the system. I can definitely say that any distortion that might be present wasn't caused by the recording, it's either from the game itself or it might be an artifact of the Mega Everdrive Pro's YM2413 core. In fact, the volume you hear it at is the volume I recorded it at.
The super stage theme is great
Very Compile (who ported the game to SMS and added the special stage that has this music).
Over time Battle Pressure has become my fav track from any version of R-type. Might be just because its the last stage I can survive though

This prepared me
To be a heavy metal fan

Ah, memories.
Awesome
Yummy ! Thank you :)
Recording volume is high/distorted but "video" file volume is low.
