That's a great alternative and work-around to carrying a Leatherman or any full size multitool with locking blades. 👍Thanks for sharing, take care my friend and Cheers!
Very thought out kit. I could go down many rabbit holes and spend some dollars on all the cool stuff I see on your videos. I do have quite a bit of my own, like different pouches and styles of Victorinox knives. I'm currently waiting on a delivery of my Knipex pouch and Pliers wrench, 😅. EDC is not only practical but fun with all the different variations one can do. Thanks for the great presentation.
Thank you for your kind comments - they mean a lot to me. I enjoy putting these videos together and I am always looking for budget items where I can or spending money on quality items that are good value because they last.
Thanks Ben. I enjoyed making the video and always hope that it interesting to other people. I plan to work on some updates with possibly a smaller version and a car glovebox version.
One option to belt carry is putting a medium size carabineer through the belt web on your pouch with the hook side up. Then put the hook over your pants waistband. This lets you immediately remove the pouch without doing anything to your belt. Peace
Hey Mark, Fantastic idea for a video!!!! You’ve come up with some fantastic alternatives that offer plenty of useful options. I really like the flexibility that this approach offers …. Great selection of tools and different way’s to carry them… I have a Leatherman Rebar with the bit set…. I carry it at work. I’ve found it to be a great multi-tool and enjoy carrying it. However.. it’s not perfect… I guess any multi-tool or tool kit is going to have a degree of compromise….. after all, not many of us want to cart around a full toolbox day to day… At the end of the day it’s about trying different systems… experimenting and seeing what works best…. You’ve given me some great ideas and I’m going to try to incorporate them in my carry. Thanks for this one, I’ll let you know how it goes 😎🙏🏻
@@MB_EDC To be completely honest I’ve only had occasion to use it a handful of times…. When needed it’s worked well though.. I do use the cutters on the pliers quite often and like that you can change them if they get damaged…😃
Excellent thoughts in the video. I find the thickness of a kit is a bigger issue than size up to the size of a pocket. Think of a smart phone. Sadly, last week I broke the lite portion of my victorinox signature lite that I placed on a jetsetter. As a result, my carry has bulked up with my aaa lunintop flashlight. I find that most days I grab my leatherman curl (not UK legal), but if it were not for the non-one handed opening knife, the bond, with the addition of the pocket clip, probably has the better tool set for me as I already have the scissors and the bond is slimmer, lighter, less expensive, and I prefer the Phillips on it. I do carry the bond when I am carrying a separate knife. I have built myself a couple small kits, the smallest based on a gentlestash pouch, but I just don’t carry them, they stay in the vehicle. Carrying the curl is nice and, if I think I am going to be doing work, I add a set of 125mm knipex (which I prefer to the 100mm but similar enough).
Thank you for your comments. Some great points. Without sounding too evangelical...I find my Midnight Manager to be a tiny pocket marvel. I use it several times a day. The only time I don't carry it is when I fly. My Rebar was a gift from my son's and I could get a Knifeless Rebar or the Bond - both UK legal carry but it's a lot to spend on something I may not use. I plan to work on a smaller version and to try out the 125mm Knipex.
I did enjoy my little victorinox with the lite and the only reason I did not want to go with the midnite manager was because I was sick of taking my little victorinox off ny keychain when I went places knives were prohibited and I always had some other knife otherwise. I don’t think you will find much value add with the 125mm over the 100mm knipex other than if you have both you can get to both sides of a nut and bolt I suppose you could accomplish that by including the small adjustable in your kit - that was the one I was surprised did not stay in. The price of the bond in the UK is steep especially with a pocket clip added. Maybe you can find one used at a better price, or even an original PST. Given you have scissors and a small Phillips on the midnite manager it seems like a good compliment to that, of course understanding the sentimental value of the rebar as a gift. I find the convenience of pulling a leatherman out is helpful compared to pulling out a pouch, but as someone in the US I tend to grab a box and then reach for my knife to open it as we have one handed opening.
@@ptstouring49 The laws here are a little crazy. Carrying a knife with one hand opening is allowed, as long as it is not assisted/automatic ,but not locking and not over 3" blade. No fixed blades allowed as normal carry. It's different if required fort your work and you are working. I plan on getting there Jetsetter and testing out of it is allowed on flights. Currently I have an oLight i3E Eos on my keychain and the Gerber Shard which both get used a lot and are flight friendly.
I did know that about one handed opening and I saw the Spyderco UK pen knife and thought it was a good option (although spendy). If the bond had a non-locking one hand knife, that would be good, but leatherman (sensibly I believe) puts the non-locking knife blade on the inside so you can’t cut yourself when it folds (on PST, Bond etc.). Regardless, it seems as though you have a really nice collection and set up and you are tweaking at the margins to best suit your needs. I can say for myself, I am not sure the usefulness of what I carry has improved all that much over time, but the process of getting there has been very enjoyable. 😂
I'm sure at some point I will get the Bond. It's just a bit pricey. Unless Leatherman watches my videos and sends me one - 🤣. It is fun putting a toolkit together though. It reminded me when I was a lad, choosing fishing gear to go in an old tobacco tin to take fishing with me.
Superglue often fails in kits, a glue stick in combination with the lighter (you can also get solder/heatshrink combo that also works with just a lighter) Fiskars folding scissors.
Great idea about the glue stick/solder addition. The small single-use superglue format have always worked so far - but super glue has quite a limited range of uses. Haven't tried the folding scissors I'll take a look. I have seen people use the Victorinox scissors from the tool cards in this sort of kit.
The UK knife laws are bonkers and I'm from the UK living in the US. I could understand a locking blade if it was a oho type. Who the hell is going to go mental with a rebar?
I agree totally. Similarly I have not heard of stabbings with an Opinel knife or any slipjoint with a blade over 3 inches. I understand that machetes may be banned totally here in the UK soon. I still don't think that this will impact knife crime!
You could do quite a bit of damage with a screw driver… determined people will continue to commit crimes and law abiding people will continue to be inconvenienced…
