    I'll use the toilet sign and I like the term potty for signalling to go. My baby is 2 months old, so it might be a while till she's able to sign. Happy to start teaching her early!

    • @AndreaOlson
      @AndreaOlson  4 года назад

      Yes! Just make it part of the routine and baby will use it when she can. It's never too early to work on communication.

    I love the signals that you use so that is what we do. I say and signal potty before putting my LO on or asking her if she needs to go. Then I sign pee and make the “psss” sound. When I know she needs to poop I make the “mmm” “mmm” sound.

    Thank you so much for this! We have 3 boys and plan to do this with our 8 month old and potentially our almost 2 year old as well. We plan to do potty time pointing at the bathroom and the toilet sign for actually going. Love those signals!!

    • @AndreaOlson
      @AndreaOlson  2 года назад

      The signals can be super-helpful if your nearly 2-yo is not verbal yet, but as for EC - you can skip it and go straight to potty training! Please check out my post all about the ages and stages! godiaperfree.com/how-early-can-i-start-potty-training/

    I am from Germany. German words are sometimes complicated
    Like „potty“ means „Töpfchen“. I am struggeling a bit what word I should use.
    I go at the moment with easy catches. 💩 we catch 90% and that is awesome.
    Thank you for your channel and Podcast. I am more relaxed about EC and you gave a lots of great tips.

      You can use any word you want, or any hand signal, chest slap, etc. Whatever works best.

    Why are we embarrassed of calling our body parts the correct terms. My mom did this too and as a child its confusing for no reason other than the parent is “embarrassed” as you put it for having parts that everyone has.

    • @AndreaOlson
      @AndreaOlson  Год назад

      Completely agree! I think perhaps parents are also worried kids will shout it out in public or something? IDK. They shout plenty of embarrassing things!😂

    Heard about EC last week my baby is 5 months. My plan is to use the word potty and the toilet sign. Feeling like maybe it’s a bit to late for us… but gonna start trying EC.

    Is there a way to sign while holding baby on potty? I'm still using 2 hands right now for my 4 month old.

    • @AndreaOlson
      @AndreaOlson  Год назад

      That's a little tricky! If you can't safely let go with one hand, then try signing while saying "potty!" right before you pop her on the pot 👍

    I definitely think two signs is a great tip. Pointing & potty signs. Need potty & go potty verbs.

    My baby is 9 weeks old I’ve been doing EC for two weeks now. I’m so impressed im able to help my baby pee and poo in the toilet. I use a yogurt container to catch his pees actually. I find it easy as he is a boy and it will just shoot pretty far on the baby potty or toilet. And I can keep it with us wherever we are hanging out. For signaling he shows me he is uncomfortable and I say, “you need to go to the potty.” I pick him up and make the sound. When he is more focused visually I will use the hand signal as well.

    • @AndreaOlson
      @AndreaOlson  3 года назад

      That's great! Excellent work!
      I love that you use a yogurt container as well! 😍

    When we do our morning potty. I pick my son (8months) and say let's go potty. Then set him on the toilet and say "ok let's go pee pee and poo poo"
    Is it ok to say "good pee pee or good poo poo." While they are going or afterwards?

    • @AndreaOlson
      @AndreaOlson  5 лет назад +7

      I'd avoid the term "good" because the flip side, not using the potty, means "bad". You can say "thank you for using your potty" or "thank you for putting your pee/poop in the potty".

    My baby is 14m and I have unintentionally teaching him e.c. At 6 months I noticed that he has a poo face, so whenever he did it, I would put him on the potty and he would often poo. At this point, I have seen a pattern and am having success with poos in just offering the potty after breakfast and before bed. Recently he has started peeing in the potty as well, but although I tell and sign him what he is doing while he is doing it, there is no two way communication yet. He will not have access to the potty at his daycare until 18 months, and that's the main reason why I haven't made efforts with pee and have used a schedule over signs for offering the potty for poos. But I don't know what will come next, and I am having trouble finding resources on what to expect and where to go from here. Sometimes he will take his diaper off and poop on the floor! Most resources talk mostly about getting started, but not about the transition to begin teaching more independence. Can you recommend anything?

      Love when parents unintentionally EC there kiddos! Just goes to show you how natural and ingrained in our. beings it actually is. ❤️

    This is so F'ing hard to do with my 13 month old. We only have success with transitions, and even then sometimes I am too slow. He's also been pooping more since starting this (like 4-5x a day)-- like he can't get it all out the first time and will poo again in 20 mins. Is that just a coincidence? I am having a very desperate day (no catches, couldn't PJs off quick enough, 3 poops so far as of noon and one pee on the floor). Days like this make me want to quit because tbh I can't read his signala that well. I can't tell you how many times he grunts/strains/raspberries only to do nothing at all one the potty after a few mins (and no poops 30 mins later either).+

      Not sure if you've just started EC or if things have changed over the last few months? It sounds to me like your LO is feeling unsure about the whole thing, and likely not finishing his whole poop each time because he is getting interrupted mid-poo? Your energy also has a lot to do with how it goes, so when you have a day like this... its ok to take a break! EC is very forgiving like that😉 Definitely join one of our awesome support groups for inspiration and assistance!! facebook.com/groups/godiaperfree🙌

      @@AndreaOlson Yes we just started a few weeks ago (just first thing in the morning). This past week we started doing after meal times, naps, any signals (though I do find the signals hit or miss-- sometimes I think he just makes noises for fun, other times it is a poo or pee, but again, not promised). Today has been an off day for some reason, it seems.
      I do have the book (I got the potty training one too since he's past one year). I wish I started EC sooner, but I guess being a first time mom and knowing nothing regarding EC, I wasn't on board doing with a newborn (but I totally will next baby)-- as you know already EC isn't exactly part of American culture. I am glad you mentioned in videos wanting to stay dry while sleeping then having to pee when waking up; I noticed, even as a lil baby, he peed a lot shortly after waking up.
      Thank you for the replies and I will check out the support group-- I could really use support. Part of me think it would be easier if we had just started sooner, like even if we still skipped the newborn phase, I think 4-6 months (I could always tell when he was about to poo when EBF, often right after a feed) would have been better than 12 months.

      @@AndreaOlson Hi Andrea, I was denied admission the facebook support group. Also, sometimes my tot, the second after getting up from the potty (when we try after naptime) he pees on the floor right next to it. I do all this signaling and even pee in the adult potty next to him. I worry this may lead "pee where ever" thing. I tell him that we pee in the potty and put him back on the potty in cass there is more (usually he's done). Sometimes I just think he doesn't want to pee in his potty (although he is fine with just sitting on it).
