    Just watched the video. By the numbers it looks like people issuesw that are under 1000 irating are more aligned with unsafe driving vs skill and looking at race results its pans out. When you look at the lower splits in seems like the vast majority are at least one lap down. So if you are under 1000 its more about driving safe vs driving for pace

    As always, great content Nick.
    I did need to focus on irating for dirt road in a misguided attempt to try make the rallycross pro series. It definitely removes the fun from it but is a necessary evil if you want to race at that level.
    I set irating goals in the other disciplines, not because of pro ambitions but more a case of having something to aim for, but not in terms of me hitting a number but more how competitive I am. Eg at present I’m 3200 on road, but I want to compete with 4000 level drivers, so my goal is to improve my skills until that happens. When i get there, over time my irating will probably trend towards 4000. So a little bit of a reverse way to go about it but I need something to aim for or work on.
    It is far easier to increase irating if you focus on one car or even one discipline (say do only road). But there’s so much good stuff I’m like you, try and have a go at everything cos they’re all fun in their own way and improving at them all at once can be tricky

    Nick, I have to say this video and the one you did on SR taught this old dog a new trick. I’ve quit worrying about both SR & IR and just raced and not only do I enjoy it more but I actually perform better on the track. I’ve just told myself I’m gonna drive my race, stay within my limits and not force anything and forget about everything else other than go as fast as I can and get the best finish I can. Once I did this BOTH my SR & IR have went up because my finishes have been top half of the field. Forgetting about what can happen to my ratings allows me to finally race. Still got a long way to go to get up there with you but this week, with a new mindset I’m getting there little by little. Hell I even got a top 5 at Thompson in the Tour Mods open setup which, while it was a small, one split field, was a first for me.
    Oh and a thank you for posting in one of your older videos the link to where you’ve got a lot of the setups you use. That’s my first stop for setups and now that I’m learning to tweak them to my liking, if there is an option for open races I’ll choose them over fixed any day.

    That's why I'm constantly in other people's accidents, my rating is pretty low because I race for fun, I do everything to avoid incident points, but getting 4x when someone spins in front of you leaves know latitude for a minor mistakes. I'm just always gonna be around the guys that get into trouble no matter how careful I am. Great explanation, I'm not going to Chase rating, I'm racing for fun but I just have to get used to people wrecking me!

    Hello. I am new to iRacing. I really, really liked your safety rating and iRating videos! Those are the only two I discovered so far but they all look great. Turns out I am a retired math teacher. Do you have the actual mathematical expression/equation for iRating? And how it rolls in/rolls out corners and incidents - to exactly calculate the ratings? Yes, you describe iRating rating perfectly, absolutely perfect - but I want the actual equation. It may be a complicated one with inequalities, absolute values and exponential expressions. Thank You.
    Oh, and the very same question for iRating? That one may be way more complicated than the one for safety rating? Thank You.

    I just started IRACING last month. Have done hours of research on it and have to say this is the best damn video I have seen. Every new driver should watch this. We all have that competition running through our blood and want to do better, but don't let that take away from the trill this (game, journey, or personal career) has to offer. It is an extremely expensive hobby, but so far have enjoyed the shit out of it and don't plan to stop. Thanks for the information and bringing us back down to earth on the reality of the experience.

    Thanks, this was something I needed to hear. I do concentrate on it too much, but my reason is a desire to try and get into mid to top splits and get away from the idiots who can't drive and dont care. I am a driver that with a good setup can almost always get a top 10 to top 5 finish at just about any oval IF I can stay clear... I was very close to 1600 for the first time when Daytona came around this year, and lost some rating during that, I stink at the Autoclub Speedway so I ran very few there, now here we are at Vegas and it seems more incident prone than ever before. I am down to high 14s now, and am bummed out about it. At 1600 I was running a few mid-split races and it was sooo much more fun, That is all I am shooting for, and that shouldn't be asking too much, your videos have been a huge help when I can make myself be as patient as you are climbing up through the field, starting in the rear as you often do is a huge gamble that can pay off if things go right... but its TOUGH!

    Generally in a full grid I find the top 12 gain irating. Tell you what, the C class - truck series is sad this week, I run pretty much top 5 every race and let me tell you, if its a lapped car that gets ran over, or some guy who cant hold his line then gives some crap excuse..I always get involved. What I learn is that early on in the race you have to be as much of an ass as possible, if someone is slow give them a tap, let them know you arent gonna let them slow you down, if someone is being rough with you, bump them back, let them know you arent gonna be pushed around, it sets a precedence and everyone learns not to be so dumb and rough

  • @ianmelville4071

    So the sweet spot would be 2000-2500 as if i understand it correctly you get into more high splits and would be at the lower end of that split thus giving you a higher increase in SR and IR. One general question, how long on average would it take to get to 2000 IR on say the oval licence?

    • @kneebon5
      @kneebon5  3 месяца назад

      The sweet spot is to get to whatever your natural ranking is. Getting to 2k should take less than a month if you are above average at racing.

    It only takes one person in the "less than 1000" irating splits to give the entire field 4 or more incident points. Of that 55%, how many are stuck down there due to getting caught up with those lesser skilled people? That would be a good stat to look up or figure out...........
