Nowadays people like masteroogway who make extremely insensitive comments while dismissing them as “jokes” are the most common form of racism and the shorts don’t even hint at that. Dismissing any and all criticism of the shorts as “racist” is just ignorant.

It’s a fanmade Steven Universe AU project that revolves around the concept of a “ Momswap “, which essentially entails everything being the same except instead of Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl being Steven’s primary caretakers, they’re replaced with Peridot, Lapis, and Jasper. It’s about 11 minutes in length, which is about the length of your average Steven Universe episode.
You should really check out the official SU Movie documentary that came out with the DVD, it’s called “Behind the Curtains: Steven Universe the Movie”. Dunno if there’s a legal way to watch it besides the DVD, but a fan did upload it in full on RUclips.
last I heard, rebecca sugar actually would love to do more with SU and had said to make noise about loving the show on social media to increase the chances of getting more. they have a ton more stories they wanted to tell. even in the behind the scenes art books, certain things are blocked out in case she gets the chance to tell those stories. off the top of my head, I know they wanted to get into the diamonds' origins, what was inside the chest in lion's mane (it was opened some time between Change Your Mind and the movie, and they know what was in it but the audience never found out), more character development for the off colours, showing more of Lars' space adventures and diving more into white diamond as a character edit: shouldn't have paused before writing this comment lmao yeah I think I recall hearing that Steven's story is done, but yeah there are a lot of other stories still left to tell
as a black mixed child, i learned and experienced racism at the early age of 7 and still experience it almost 10yrs later, racism bothers me a lot and it’s very frustrating especially since it’s everywhere, and the it’s everywhere yet not acknowledged and that’s annoying
It enfuriates me how the Pearl and black history is still relevant today as people are trying to erase histories such as a black samurai. Also the list of "inventions by white americans" goes way on by apropriating immigrants (the telephone) or foreigns (the airplane).
Imo it always bugged me Pearl acted so self righteous as if humanity is leagues behind her own species given she comes from a race of being who were far more prejudiced for far longer than humans canonically existed in the SU verse.

My mom had to sit down with me and explain that she doesn't care who I end up with but warned me if I dated outside my race a good chunk of my family would disown me. Ofc I didn't care. I hated most of my extended family anyways, and that didn't help matters.
Oh and I remember when a cheerios ad came out and people in my state were in an uproar because it depicted an interracial family. This was several years ago but dude, I was only born in the 90s.
You should do a video checking out Steven Universe fan content on RUclips. I’d personally recommend the YTPs Rock Bottom and Rock it Out, though there’s tons of other great ones out there! I’d recommend doing a community post asking for more recommendations :)
The first one is just too funny despite actually having a clever end. Those first lines of the kids were just too out of pocket 😂. This is not how kids talk and they should have said something more realistic to what kids would say irl. Though I get the point but still, using something extreme makes it a bit odd, people already downplay the actual racist things people say.

I think they're showing how the original writers of the PSAs didnt consult with experts and that their ideas of anti-racism were outdated and not how we are talking about racism as something pernicious and systematic that can't be solved with a love everybody attitude. That's why Amethyst had to stop the "don't see colour" talk. And Pearl's PSA shows why the writers aren't up to date: they don't have a fuller perspective on how this works because education and other systems don't engage racism like that. It's a PSA within the PSA, teaching people who don't think they're racist (the film crew) how that isn't enough/not how this works, and that you must actively be involved to be a true anti-racism ally.
