there's a pretty direct parallel between sapphire + ruby and steven + connie. ruby/connie get hyperfocused on one single thought and get so worked up that they cant focus on anything else. meanwhile sapphire/steven avoid their thoughts until the thoughts gather into an unmanageable amount and overwhelm them.
I read a recent interview with Rebecca Sugar - I think in Variety? - that asked about "Here Comes a Thought". She said that she'd been dealing with panic attacks herself, and that it was really important that the song _not_ say to calm down, because that's such unhelpful advice when you're in one.
I like to think that mr frowney chuckling and saying “I think I finally got the joke” might be that yeah it’s a silly bit for the audience but smiley says “I take MY frown and turn it around” while grabbing him and turning him upside down. I think it alludes to their deeper relationship.
It's kind of amazing that "Here Comes a Thought" got you to react to the show, it's just got that much power. I've used that song to make it through some of my most stressful days, and I hope it helps others as much as it has helped me
I am seriously so grateful to Rebecca Sugar for this show and its music. Here Comes a Thought has genuinely helped me in times of depression and struggle. I sang it to to myself in a hospital waiting room, at the ragged tail end of an unexpected hospitalization for my two year old, to keep from crying. When I was trying to put her to sleep in the hospital with a lullaby, she asked for True Kinda Love (You'll get there Sputnik!) and I sang it 3 times. Let me tell you, it is freaking hard to sing that song to a baby in a hospital when you are physically and emotionally drained, without sobbing through the whole thing, but I did it. It's no wonder so many ND people love this show. I was nearly 40 when I discovered it, I was a whole-ass adult human with a husband and two kids, and yet it had so much to teach me about recognizing and processing feelings, and what functional and dysfunctional relationships and coping strategies look like. RS lays out so beautifully, "Here is a way humans struggle. Here is a toxic way of coping, and here is a healthy way. Here is a lovely song to remind you in case you forget later."
On a fluffier note: Indi your tights are so COOOOOOOL!!!!!!! I just love them. Do you know Snag? They make amazing tights. Anyway, I always love your style.
That was so deeply personal and beautiful, thank you for sharing something so vulnerable 🤍 I hope your kids are able to enjoy this show as much as we all do as they grow up 🥺 And I agree! One of the things I love most about this show is the healing effect it has on people of all ages, this will be a show I go back to over and over and over again!! And thank you for the compliment on my tights ahhh! I'll definitely check out Snag 😊
I don’t think I’ve ever read a comment on any video that made me cry until now, this show really is something special and I hope that you and your family are all doing well ❤
what i love most about that line is that she got it from steven! i can't remember which season but he says it to her earlier, and she loved it so much she used it herself lmao
Someone probably says it in the comment or video(still watching) but a fusion only knows what the fuser wants them to know. Thats why sardonyx didn't know pearl was fixing the hub or why steven didnt know what connie did here. This is confirmed outside the show by rebecca sugar
Ah ok interesting. I interpreted what happened as Connie and Steven sharing these stessful parts of their lives by accident so that's interesting if thats the case.
Ahhhh here it is, my favourite episode in the entire series. This episode has so much sentimental value to me! 🥹 But as much as the song helps me calm down it's actually the end with Steven that gets me the most. I had some very heavy trauma that really resonated with Steven's struggle to process his feelings. This episode aired during one of the hardest moments in my adult life, just when I needed something like it the most! Will always be thankful to Rebecca for making this show.
Believe or not here comes a though still has an unconfirmed theory to this day. Rebbeca has neither confirmed nor denied it. A fair amount of fans believe that they purposely hid a fusion from the fandom. They believe near the end of the song Garnet and Stevonnie had fused. Each character has their part but a fifth voice appears
I could be wrong but I believe it has been confirmed that Mr Smiley and Mr Frowny did used to be in a romantic relationship! Of course their story is still applicable to many different types of relationships though
One of the strongest episodes in the series, Mindful Education and “Here Comes A Thought” touch on the topic of anxieties and intrusive thoughts, as well as dealing with moments of dissociation. It gives a really good take on dealing with obsessive thoughts, compulsive behaviors, coping strategies used for/by people struggling with mental health, breathing exercises, forming a strong support system, and being patient and compassionate with ourselves. The swarm of butterflies are a really good depiction of what obsessive and intrusive thoughts become, just a barrage of ideas that come into one’s mind and can be overwhelming, sticky, heavy, suffocating, distressing, and inducing feelings of shame for even having a thought that goes against one’s own morals. It’s a really beautiful episode of Steven Universe, easily top 3 for me.
You guys always look gorgeous! Also props to Spudnik for always catching on really fast what the show it trying to tell the viewers in every episode and props to Indi for being amazing at not spoiling anything even though everything is so fun to talk about and Spudnik asks a lot of questions xD
i thought there was times stevonnie was called “she” tho, i do know they also grow a beard tho cuz of steven and i thought it was so cute that they have characteristics of both of their human sides🫶🏼
@@kyluvs_Stevonnie was called "girl" in the same way that we use "girl" or "dude" as gender neutral terms now, but they are always referred to using they/them pronouns.
@@ashhole03 well i know that the gems technically are sexless but what i mean is like do they not still use “she” if that’s what people were calling them? just like how instead of calling garnet “they” garnet would be called “she” usually and all gems were actually called she except for steven i believe, so even tho they ARE they/them i meant don’t they technically USE she?
@@kyluvs_ Stevonnie is 3/4 human and not sexless so the regular rule of all gems use she/her doesn't apply just like how Steven uses he/him. They/them are their preferred pronouns.
"Like Korra" yeah straight up ptsd flashbacks. The kinds of things they've done and been involved in tend to stick... And Steven's "just put it out of your head" sure comes back. Even the "subtle" side, Connie isn't just learning self defense, she's learning combat, and there's a mentality to that, and it comes with a cost, especially as young as they are. lol yeah everybody gets the "more than friends" vibe off the comedy duo. Clearly close close like family regardless.
In a way, what steven went through this episode is a lot like what korra went through in legend of korra. That scene where stevonnie is falling through steven's troubles is a lot like where zaheer told her to let the scene of her past play out so that she can enter the spirit world
No spoilers but speaking of episodes making us cry, the finale of future made me cry when i rewatched it. Back then i was sad for steven but now i unfortunately relate to him😭
(Fun thing: if i remember correctly, Smiley and Frowny are confirmed to be ex's! So the interactions in that episode and the talk about their act were kind of a double-meaning since it also applied to a romantic relationship)
I absolutely love watching you guys, it's amazing seeing people's reactions to my childhood show and it's pleasing seeing adult figures who haven't seen the show immediately trashing it😊 . This show was a huge part of my childhood and I don't know how I would have ended up without it 😭 thanks so much for your content you have no idea how happy it makes me.
lol i get ur sadness abt the show ending for u kind of soon, I watched the show as it came out it still hits reaching it the 100th time lol! SU fans r hoping for a new series or spin off kind of soon, who knows but it seems like rebecca sugar has been hinting at it 🤞I hope its a prequel, just to see the past and the gem war would be cool!
if you're a fan of stevonnie's voice actor, aj michalka, she also voices catra in netflix's she-ra and the princesses of power. i think you'd really like that show! it would be fun to react to
Technically, steven is half boy half girl because of rose, but human wise he's definitely male, so already there's something there in him, and fusing with connie i guess amplifies that
Steven is plenty smart and perceptive for his age. He’s also a kid and can be naïve, which people may perceive as dumb, but it’s really a different thing.

It's a tribute to how beautiful their voices are that even without the backing tracks, it sounds amazing.
I wonder how they even separate it for edits like this
