Dragon's Dogma 2 is better than its Steam page

  • Let's talk about the bizarre reception Dragon's Dogma 2 got.
It took a few takes to avoid talking about the Dragon's Dogma anime, or the fact that all the shit people hate was also in the original. The cash shop? The antitamper? Yeah, the original also had those.

Dragon's Dogma 1 is my favorite game of all time, I love all of its quirks, the real world story of its creation, and the vision behind it. When Dogma 2 was announced I immediately built a stupid overspecced PC (because I know the state of Triple A right now and as dissapointed as I am with optimization, my bases were covered) and 22 hours into the game now it is almost certain to be my new number 1. Words cannot describe how happy I am with it so far, but that happiness is really hard to focus on with virtually everyone I know messaging me about how they heard "game bad" due to things completely external to that experience. These things should be criticized, and honestly at 70 dollars I have told people to wait for a few patches before jumping in, but its really sad to see a game I love's reputation being destroyed over misinformation and capcom beauracracy.

The weirdest shit to me is just... why on earth would you not allow for starting a new game? I know, I know, the original also had just one save slot. But you could at least start a new game! What do I need to do here? Disable cloud saves, look through my steam folder, find the save file and then delete it. And - at least according to some users - this might trigger Denuvo to lock you out of the game.
    Yeah... great design.

There's definitely going to be some patches. My biggest complaint is that "B" is "pick up something" and also "run forward at top speed", and half the stuff you need to pick up is near the edge of a cliff...

@@CraigPerkoI hope. Still a very weird choice and I would love to know the reasoning behind is. I'll give the game a chance now. Mainly because I trust you when it comes to judging games. And if I don't like it I can just refund it.

There's no rush. If you're not in the mood to play it, even if it's just because you're annoyed with Capcom, then put it off.

In the options for controller (on xbox at least) you can set B to only interact and set left stick click to sprint. It works pretty good imo

@@AugustBurnsSamOh! I'll look again! I thought I checked and it wasn't there, but maybe it's just a bit harder to find.

Haven't watched your videos in years but I went to my subscribe page hoping anyone I trusted could clear up the mess I was seeing before buying DD2 (DD1 being one of my favorite games of all time) and thankfully you did just that. Thanks Craig, you eased my worries after waiting all these years for this sequel, downloading it now.

... I know you're just having fun with the name, but that's a pretty good summary of the first game.

I'm glad to hear it's just Dragon's Dogma. The store page really did make me worry, but sounds like it'd be worth picking up!

it makes me sad because im a big fan of dd, like at the start of the video you talk about how infuriating dd has become but that is just not true to me, i havent stopped enjoying it since i started playing it all those years ago back on the 360, without the mods. I know how difficult it must've been for the team to get here and it just isn't the game's fault or the devs that capcom made them implent all that garbage, they're just not giving the game a fair chance and it sucks because dd is an amazing game because of how unique it can be and the higher ups are probably just gonna think it aint gonna be worth it to support the game, im not saying all those things dont suck or that we should accept them, but dragons dogma is not some assasins creed that gets pumped out every year or whatever, is a game that took a lot of effort to get here, and if that was one of the conditions for it to come out i dont think that the game deserves the hate, but capcom does

Sadly Steam "reviews" are not reviews anymore, they're a forum for people to vent their frustration á la twitter. A review would thoroughly take into account most of what the game has to offer, and not just impulsively throwing in another ragebait 2-sentence poorly informed post about how angry you are at the microtransactions 2 hours after launch.
Which is why I find video reviews much more useful and accurate, because there is more investment and responsibility on the side of the reviewer.
Good video! In half a year people will forget about the "outrage" and much like DDDA it will likely become a cult classic yet again.

People have gotten cynical over the last 20 years. And I dare say it's not their fault. Getting screwed over and over again by companies makes you assume the worst. Especially when it comes to certain companies, including Capcom.

Yeah, Capcom's a shitty company. I'm shocked at how well the dev team survived their mismanagement.
