The older games have a sort of impact that unfortunately aren't replicated in the newer games, however the Japanese voices still have that kind of impact in the newer games

If you ever decide to remake this to add in Shields and The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles after it comes out, my one suggestion would be to add credits to the voice actor for each clip. This info is always scattered everywhere and the VAs behind the clips (especially for 1-4, plus the fan project for AA:I2) need more recognition imo.

I can't get over how dumb a decision it was to remove the old voice lines in the DS -> 3DS transition. The voice clips for Phoenix and Apollo in DD and SoJ are so weak that it doesn't even feel good to object anymore. In AA4, finding someone's nervous habit and hearing Apollo's GOOOOOOTCHAH was insanely cathartic but in AA5/AA6 it's just whatever.
Listening to this makes me wonder why the 3DS ports had non-bitcrushed voices in the Trilogy, but stuff like the iOS and next gen ports(at least for me with the PlayStation) bitcrushed the sound. Seems kinda off I might be wrong about the bitcrush. I might be mistaking that for an echo-y effect

I think Apollo getting new voice in DD and is kind of pointless. I mean it takes place in same year... Capcom could've used the same voice as in AA4 and it would sound fitting.
None of the voice changes were for an in-universe reason, they did it because they needed to record new voices for the anime cutscenes, and didn't want them to be inconsistent with the in-game clips. It's unfortunate but understandable, even AA4 was 6 years old at that point. I'm honestly fine with Phoenix's new voice, but I definitely feel like a few of them could have been better. There's nothing wrong with Apollo's new voice on it's own, but his old voice is literally perfect for the kind of character he is, young, loud, brash, confident, and in your face. His original "GOTCHA!" Is one of the most satisfying things in the series, It just doesn't sound like he's putting everything he has into his call-outs in the DD and SoJ. Edgeworth really got it the worst though. His original voice is almost as if not just as iconic as Phoenix's, but where Phoenix is new voice still resembles his old one, Edgeworth sounds completely different. It's way deeper than it's supposed to be.
