- A lovely film made by Andre Smith featuring the many delights of Blackpool, Lancashire. Footage includes the Wurlitzer Organ from the Tower Ballroom, the beaches and promenade, original trams and the Pleasure Beach (including the Virginia Reel, Jack & Jill, double Ferris Wheel & more.)
This was originally shot on 16mm film - and converted for You Tube.
Thankyou! Great memories of the pleasure beach,whe you didn't have to pay just to go in. And unbelievably my favourite ride ( the grand national ) is still going strong!
Great to see this wonderful old film of Blackpool and the Lake District. Nice to see the Tower, Woolworth's building, North Pier and the Winter Gardens looking almost the same as now, but it's amazing how different Central and South Piers looked. Great to see the old trams. Blackpool was lucky to keep them, when everywhere else got rid of theirs. Now some can be enjoyed as part of the Heritage fleet. Great music from the Wurlitzer which can still be enjoyed in the beautiful Tower Ballroom. Great footage from the top of the Tower. Thank you for sharing. Xxx

Awesome days lost in time
Blackpool, and the 60's are the same ! both unique, and full of wonderful memories,
Loved the brief shot of the Jack and Jill slide. Only saw it once on a day trip in 1959 and I was too scared to try it. Understand it closed after a short existence when someone fell off it and died. Although the figures of Jack and Jill could still be seen the last time I visited.
What a lovely film. May be me but I feel it is perhaps earlier than 1960s? Lots of shots bring back memories. Remember the Pleasure Beach Express crossing the "Forth Bridge?"
Albert Modley is advertised as appearing on the Central Pier. He was there in 1962 and 1963. So I was thinking this was filmed during either of those years. But then again, he was on the Central Pier in 1953 ans 1954, and I can't see anything which rules out those years either. The ER 11 on the base of the Tower might be because it was the year of the coronation, 1953.
Looking at the fashion and the motor vehicles, also the ER II on the tower, I agree and would suggest early to mid 50's? I'm merely basing my suggestion by looking at old pics of mum and dad at Blackpool.
I always have to watch these videos at least twice because first watch is "can I see mum and dad?", me and my brother too if they're from the mid 60s on!
It's a sad to see the state of the place now, especially the back street's. Mum and dad used to let us play at the front where we stayed, on Withnell rd, in the afternoons back then. I wouldn't dare let a dog out there nowadays!
Looking at the clothing and the cars also the Coronation E . R plaque mid 1950s at a guess as I remember 😊

Notice the new sections of sea wall at around 4.10 and the broken chunks of concrete dislodged from the wall during the many storms which have plagued Blackpool down the years. More recently new stretches of sea wall have been built in an attempt to keep the sea under control as far as possible.
This was definitely filmed in 50s and I think early 50s ( then again I could be wrong!)
I think it was filmed in 1959. My recollection is that the Jack and Jill slide was opened that year but closed after one season due to a fatal accident.

@@captainc6671 I am certain that the film dates from the early 50's. The mainly green trams were much in evidence and the cream coloured Coronation tram looks brand new, with its fancy chrome trim. The Tower commemorates the Queen in her succession to the Throne in 1953.

Whatever year it was filmed just up the coast the then Windscale was pumping "low level" nuclear waste into the Irish sea a bi product of refining uranium to make nuclear weapons not electricity so cheap that you won't have to meter it. Politicians lied back then as now. Great days though if you could have saved a few bob for the seaside trip or even holiday. I'd say more early fifties with later stuff to early sixties if my memory is correct! Thank you for posting this film.
Definitely no later than 1962 but lots to suggest it was much earlier, possibly mid to late 50s?
Never knew the trams went down the now pedestrian Street perpendicular with the winter Gardens entrance!
There were three town routes up to 1961. From that year till 1963 they were abandoned, leaving just the promenade route. Next year a new line will open from Talbot Square to North Station, 60 years since the last closure.

Hi. The waterfalls were at Ingleton, in the North Yorkshire Dales.
In the 21st century, take the powers of discipline away from parents and teachers, get the men wearing clothes that make them look like they went out for a jog in a park, the women like they want to display themselves rather than the surroundings, parking charges for even looking at a parking spot, then that's all progress!
This was not the 60's at all, it was more like the 50's. I lived there from 62/65 and could not see much relating to the sixties. Also what was the lake district doing on here. This looked like someone's 1950's holiday movie compilation. Thumbs down from me.
