- This vintage footage filmed by me on 8mm cine film shows what Blackpool holidaymakers enjoyed at the beginning of the 1960s. The Pleasure Beach, the bathing beauty contest, the Blackpool Tower, and a day trip to the Isle of Man by aircraft for the princely sum of 52/6 (£2.65 in today's money).
What a little gem of a film. They were different times back then. Everyone wore their best Sunday clothes when on holiday. A charming film that preseves the memory of more happier and simpler times. Thank you for sharing such lovely memories.
Thank you for your lovely comment. It is much appreciated.
They were indeed very beautiful cherished people of our past. We need to consider a return to a simpler way of life. Its far too modern these days.
Home filming back then was so rare and very expensive. These films are so important, and I'm so thankful for this being shared

Thank you so much. I’ve just lost my Dad, and this brought back so many precious memories of lovely holidays in Blackpool in the 60’s with my late Mum and Dad. Even though I shed some tears, it was a lovely memory of much happier times.
Thank you for your lovely comment.
It was such a pleasure to watch your short film of Blackpool....... I enjoyed it very much, as it transported me back for a short time to my own childhood memories growing up, when the world felt like a very different place.
@Beau Beaumont Thank you for your lovely comment.
Absolutely brilliant film this is how I remember blackpool 👏👏👏👍
Thank you for your kind comment.
We went there in 1960 when I was 10. Look how smart we were back then compared to today. It was mid summer and packed. The thing I will never forget was a ride on the Wild Mouse. Bloody hell! Thanks Blackpool, thanks Britain for the pleasure you have given me for all my life. What on earth has gone wrong nowadays. I certainly saw your best years.
er
Great film when Blackpool catered for all the family ,not just the drunks
i was born late 60's .....what a film to treasure
The trees were beautiful. Literally shimmering in the Autumn nights.
In the illuminations you can see the trees. I particularly remember how colourful and animated they were. A harbinger of the Autumn season
The balloon trams were perfect for the light tours especially on the upper deck
Had to keep wiping away the condensation on those cold nights
Thank you for your interesting comment.
A Great Film Thanks For Posting❤
Great video. Everywhere looked a lot cleaner in those days, no litter like now. Ive a love/hate relationship with Blackpool. Loved it when I worked in the 'mill in the 80s and we went for day trips on a bus from work. Then hated the place as it was just a run down town. Now Im on the trucks I sometimes park in Lytham and cycle to Blackpool. I love it now, its just one of those places where I think of when I was a kid and we went to see the illuminations with great family times. Thanks for posting.

@MARKETMAN6789 The little fort is at Castletown on the Isle of Man. We took a day trip flight from Blackpool airport to Ronaldsway airport. Castletown is within easy walking distance of the airport.

Back when the sea came right in at St Annes from the aerial footage. Blackpool didnt change much right through to the 80s then it changed for the worse.😢
