WOw - really good - thankyou :) I don't have an automatic, but I do have another ticking sound. I thought it was sticking tappets, but it is quite low frequency, so maybe it is the solenoid you mention. Interesting that you say it comes and goes, as mine seems to. I am on my second A class 2007 1.5. Found to be practical car for me, a few things I notice in common: Odd metallic ticking sound on passenger front. Even after on both cars replacing the front strut top mounts and ball joints, this happens, although less. Clean the throttle body, prevents engine light, and takes 20 mins, rear door doesn't always latch, make sure to unclog drain hole under the cabin filter, or water will flood the battery and fuse compartment under driver feet, as well as ruin cabin filter.... thanks again, will watch more of your videos :)
I got that ticking noise as well and thought thats the chain or tensioner. Im surprised that its normal and that it should be there. Thanks for the information.
What worries me about the ticking noise is, even if it is a solenoid valve, some mechanical part is making metal on metal contact at faster than 1 beat per second. I think it is only at idle, and not all the time, but how many times can this go on before something fails ?
After discovering your channel, the ticking sound was the first thing I searched for. Regarding the timing chain video, did I understand correctly that one should have the valve cover off and then blow out the breather system through the oil filler tube ? My timing chain is still silent at 150 000 Km, but would like to keep it that way. Does the grade of oil affect timing chain life ? 20W50 vs 10W40 ? I'm also planning oil changes at around 7500 to 8000 Km rather than wait for the service interval to come up. Do you have a video on removing the valve cover ?
Hello, i have quite a similar problem with sounds on gearbox when I put in D or R and the engine is cold. But the car is also shaking a little. After 4-5 minutes drive no more sounds from gearbox. In R sound is louder.
There's only one difference, the diff . Diesel diff is smaller and the driver gear is larger. While in petrol, the diff is bigger and the driver gear is smaller.
Thank you so much you pin pointed the nois on transmission so good ❤🙏🙏🙏

Another great video. Yes I enjoyed it and I learnt some things aswell. Keep up the good work - thanks 👍

Same, still worried because it is always and very loud. I do not remember it being this loud 4 years ago when I bought the car.

Do you have a video on removing the valve cover ?
So is good to change or clean that solenoid to avoid the noise?
Thank you
W169 2007 and W245 2006 both petrol.
This ticking is annoyinh any way to abolish ? Soleniod chnage ?
i have enough fluid and still same problem. any ideas?
Unfortunately, many people simply don't change transmision fluid at all
Where do you fill upp the transmission?

For the ticking noise, If I clean or replace the valve with a new one, the sound is suposed to be lower?
I don't think cleaning or replacing will make a big difference. Just cover it with soft foam I started.
With a manual box, is there also a dependence of the valve noise on the oil level in the box?
Manual gearbox will make grinding noise
Thank you!!!
My 2003 A160 starts and shifts well. But when it gets warmed up, shifting from first to second gear is delayed and goes to F very often.
Do you have any fault codes?
@@forrera168 yes but in’m not sure what code it was.
‘F’ on screen, resets upon engine restart.
I do like your videos
So if I put some CVT fluid into my car the ticking noise in min 3 will go away? Sorry my english is not that good
@@MauriceTrabold No, the ticking sound is normal and CVT fluid will not make it go away.

are both petrol and diesel using the same cvt gearbox

@@forrera168 thanks so the ratio is different but the box will fit and drive
Saya ada masalah yg sedikit membingungkan...suara ini timbul saat tuas di posisi D dan jika AC dinyalakan...apabila Ac di matikan halus kembali
Sorry, I'm having problems with the translation
@@forrera168 if Ac on and transmision on D noise coming.but Ac off transmision D all smooth
Same thing happens to my car
