    I got that ticking noise as well and thought thats the chain or tensioner. Im surprised that its normal and that it should be there. Thanks for the information.

      Same, still worried because it is always and very loud. I do not remember it being this loud 4 years ago when I bought the car.

      What worries me about the ticking noise is, even if it is a solenoid valve, some mechanical part is making metal on metal contact at faster than 1 beat per second. I think it is only at idle, and not all the time, but how many times can this go on before something fails ?

      2005 owner, 350 000km and still ticks the same. Stupid loud valve indeed. I hread that on restylings its a bit quieter

    WOw - really good - thankyou :) I don't have an automatic, but I do have another ticking sound. I thought it was sticking tappets, but it is quite low frequency, so maybe it is the solenoid you mention. Interesting that you say it comes and goes, as mine seems to. I am on my second A class 2007 1.5. Found to be practical car for me, a few things I notice in common: Odd metallic ticking sound on passenger front. Even after on both cars replacing the front strut top mounts and ball joints, this happens, although less. Clean the throttle body, prevents engine light, and takes 20 mins, rear door doesn't always latch, make sure to unclog drain hole under the cabin filter, or water will flood the battery and fuse compartment under driver feet, as well as ruin cabin filter.... thanks again, will watch more of your videos :)

      Sounds like your belt tensioner and bearings,can also be timing chain/tensioner.. you better replace those both asap.. i suspect both. I've had it, and done together. P.s the water draining hole, did not notice anything on 2008_2012 models. Maybe the older gen.. idk

    • @slumbercat
      @slumbercat Месяц назад

      @@rkyt2k24 Thanks for advice, it is most likely the timing chain, but I've seen videos where it is not worth to replace just the tensioner. I'll probably just drive it without repairs as it wouldn't be financially viable (will ring a few garages today) as the car was cheap. My last one same model had 30k km on it more than this one and the same problem, only at startup, running fine after the first second .... hazards of not being rich enough to have a newer car (although I really like this model - it fits my needs for work perfectly, good for parking etc)

    I have ignored the ticking noise on my knackered A class for 10 years and 100k miles!
    Unfortunately the clutch release bearing has now gone bad and whirring, so time to go to scrap as 217k miles and rusty doors just make it not worth while.

    Hallo broer, ik heb een Mercedes-Benz B-Klasse 170 uit 2006. De fout is dat het motorlampje en het ESB-signaal verschijnen. Na 50 verliest de auto koppel en begint te snijden, en neemt de motordruk toe.

    After discovering your channel, the ticking sound was the first thing I searched for. Regarding the timing chain video, did I understand correctly that one should have the valve cover off and then blow out the breather system through the oil filler tube ?
    My timing chain is still silent at 150 000 Km, but would like to keep it that way. Does the grade of oil affect timing chain life ? 20W50 vs 10W40 ? I'm also planning oil changes at around 7500 to 8000 Km rather than wait for the service interval to come up.
    Do you have a video on removing the valve cover ?

    • @rkyt2k24
      @rkyt2k24 Месяц назад

      150k on a a class w169, and you want to keep the chain good? You better replace asap. Or find out what happens with your "healthy 150k chain" ? Also the oil you describe here, is definitely not mb approved, should be 5w30 synthetic, the oil you mention is killing your car.. and if you have a tick or weird noise, you meight have already worn the engine too much, in any case i would not wait to swap oil, chain, belt bearings and all of that.. if you are dutch. You can contact me, i can help you out if you prefer. P.s oil change and filters twice a year if used regularly. And all will befine.

    For the ticking noise, If I clean or replace the valve with a new one, the sound is suposed to be lower?
