    Thank you for sharing your unique story, Greg. It's never easy to get through a huge disappointment in life. I want to tell you that you make the world a better place with your talent, hard work and love of Chopin's music. What you're doing right now is a priceless gift to many people, within or beyond the piano world. Winning a competition or not doesn't define: your talent, the effort has been put, the willingness to discover music further, and the skills, knowledge and passion you possess as a maestro. Be yourself, live in the moment and do the things you've got to do. Be happy always. Have a lovely day. We are sending you some love from the Netherlands.❤️

    A truly captivating and enchanting rendition of a beautiful piece. Chopin's quest for perfection and refinement is something we should emulate. He adapted his music to the audience and was selective over which pieces his pupils would play. I think he would be proud of you: I can hear all the voices singing out when you play and I am so glad you picked this piece out again. I can feel those 12 extra years of study and your life experience speak out through this music and have added some extra magic.

    I find this etude reminiscent of Nocturne Op.9 No.2. Both most notably feature a modulation to F major before returning to the main theme, which for me is so deeply touching because it sounds full of dreamy melancholy (a phrase borrowed from some commentary of some other nocturne... couldn't remember :P). It's the melancholy of young Chopin, and also of everyone whose dreams did not end up fulfilled.
    Thank you for your great performance and analysis of this breathtakingly beautiful piece, and I wish you more and more success in your musical career.

    Greg what piano make did you play the preliminary round on and did you have a choice? Looking at the videos from the actual competition, I find it bizarre that some folks were using a Yamaha, some using a Steinway, some using a Fazioli and even one using a Kawai!. That was a very talent packed competition.

    • @gregniemczuk
      @gregniemczuk  14 дней назад

      In the preliminary everyone had only one piano which was Steinway. The choice was possible in the main competition. It's a big business. Piano companies are paying huge money (!!!!) to have the possibility to be among competition pianos....

    • @sunareekaewnat8837
      @sunareekaewnat8837 13 дней назад

      @@gregniemczuk So here is a complex question for you. To what extent do you believe that in these competitions it is critical for the pianist to understand what the voicing of the piano will be? I do not believe such a consideration even began to be meaningful under the early 20th century, but I think there is a strong argument to be made that there is a portion of Chopin's works that really can be challenging to execute on a brightly tuned piano because the resonances in the upper octaves are so much greater than they were in his era and it can risk shrillness. It is different from the Debussy literature where even in those few moments where there is a forte, it is not really a true forte.

    • @gregniemczuk
      @gregniemczuk  13 дней назад

      @@sunareekaewnat8837 i completely agree with you.
      The thing is that in XIX century they played on what they have trying to execute the best what they could.
      Competition is something else because we have a comparison so the total perfection is needed.
      Generally speaking - concerts and competitions are two completely different worlds

      I am looking forward to going to the Cliburn preliminary rounds again this upcoming March. Like 4 years ago, they are open to the public and there is hardly anyone there so you can easily sit in the first row 5 meters from the piano. For any of your channel subscribers this is a wonderful 6 day piano centric vacation! I would love to attend the Chopin competition each cycle, but sadly I hear it sells out immediately.

    This is an analysis of this etude, okay and it says so in the title. Not a tutorial on the technical side and practicing which i was hoping for. You tend to make great video for the general audience but the aspiring pianists need more direct concise suggestions, it is too long winded, and for example you wouldn't think that someone who is learning the Chopin études needs to be told what a broken chord is, it can be irritating to listen. this does not help your views. But forgive me for being so direct.

      Dearest Goognam, this video is from my series of analyses of all Chopin's pieces of music which I was doing during the COVID-19 lockdown times and they were addressed for music lovers who have absolutely no knowledge about music, theory, piano playing and so forth.... BUT I launched another series of TUTORIALS of all Chopin's etudes, I currently published from no.1 to 8 and I will be publishing more and more. Probably by the end of February the whole opus 10 will be finished. There will you find all the technical advices and ideas of practicing. I hope you understand. Thank you for the comment!!!

      @@gregniemczuk Dear Greg, i am so glad that you will be publishing a tutorial of this study for the practicing aspiring pianist. You are the nicest, most responsive pianist artist on youtube. I believe each pianist has different interpretative gifts to offer out of these etudes and i like your approaches.
      I am getting ever closer to learning all 24 etudes. This is the only hard one remaining (i did not learn them in order when i started 15 years ago).
      Last night i practiced Op 25 no 6 (thirds), Op 10 no 5, Op 10 n 2 (supposedly the hardest but not !) Op 10 n 10 and Op 10 no 1 (God be praised my creative perseverance in this one over the years is paying off). All these i can get through, more or less and improving each time. But Op 10 n 11 is for me the most difficult of all Chopin etudes. It is the only one i cannot play through even the first page, after having given it the same practicing as all the others, it is not progressing, in fact i cannot play 8 bars of it without having to stop hitting too many wrong notes on the top melody and the hand getting cramped reducing accuracy. It drives me nuts when people say no 2 is the hardest, Noooooo ! this one is the hardest ! And i suspect those who play it faster and loud are dropping some inner notes (so they cannot really play it :p ) . But i do not cheat because the beauty is not just the top melody note but the inner notes. I am looking forward to your tutorial ! I agree that a moderate tempo in that etude is both more beautiful and more difficult than the rushing loudly pedalled versions commonly heard.

    • @gregniemczuk

      @@goognamgoognw6637 wow! You really impressed me. Well done!!! I plan to record all the 24 etudes soon, maybe this year in December or the beginning of 2024.... For every pianist different etude is the hardest, because we have different hands, different learning experience etc.
      Thanks for your words!!! I hope I can give you some useful advices on this one! I'll try to publish is soon!

      @@gregniemczuk Thank you Greg. I might impress you more if i say that although i've been playing the piano for 15 years now, i had never touched a piano until age 23 when i started to learn it for the first time full time. In childhood, I had a musical education on the light side on a simple electronic keyboard. To this day i have not been able to own my own piano. I've always practiced at musical institutions (sometimes as a student sometimes not) which i like the walk before and back after practicing. When i complete the 24 etude set, hopefully someday i will have my own piano.
