I don't like any of the so-called solar generators. You can build your own with quality components and good batteries. For the saw........meh they are not going to last forever. Kinda sounds like a bad battery(s). Did your batteries get left in the cold? One good freeze and they can be trash.

Chain Saw: Two Years for a chain saw not sure what you aspect a chain saw to last but if you can get two years out of one I would say that's good or better (depending on how much use you received)
