Mr. Coach has a good sense of observation, immediately noted the band's new drummer, Kai Hahto (FI), who replaced Jukka Nevalainen, who was severely affected by insomnia, starting with the 2015 tour. Kai, a close friend of Jukka, is also the drummer of Wintersun. Jukka did not leave the band, taking over duties behind the scenes, in the management of the band. Also (I checked now), this is the first video in which you see the multi-instrumentalist Troy Donockley (GB), here with an Irish bouzuki. He joined the band starting in 2007 as a collaborator, bringing with him the folk-Celtic vein, because he is an expert in traditional Irish instruments (uillean bagpipes, tin whistle, long whistle, Irish bouzuki, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, with- and without- e-bow). In some songs he uses an electric guitar together with an e-bow, obtaining a haunting sound reminiscent of a cello. He does not appear on stage in all their performances - certainly not in the ones you have seen so far. "I Want My Tears Back", "My Walden", "Alpenglow", "Last Of The Wilds", "Elan", "How's The Heart" - acoustic version, here are some of the songs in which his presence is notable. In the last album of 2020 there is a song in which he sings as lead singer as well as uillean pipes, "Harvest". Troy became a permanent member of Nightwish together with Floor in 2013. I'm glad that you are both open to learning more about the band, there are so many documentaries in YT that are worth seeing!.. I look forward to your next steps in this adventure of getting to know Nightwish.
@CoachCastTV Our General Gabriel will always be there to assist you guys regarding Nightwish if you wish to know anything about them. great reaction again.
Bouzukis are Russian, though there is a more recent Irish version. Instruments like tin whistles are traditional folk instruments of a lot of places, in this case the entire British Isles, including Ireland. Troy is English, though his surname indicates Irish ancestry. I never asked him about that when I knew him in York over 30 years ago.
@@TheRealRedAce By name at least (we have significant communities of Greeks here in RO so I know what it sounds like) Bouzuki is a Greek instrument, not Russian, but I understand what you are saying, that I have wrongly located Troy in Ireland, when he is English from Cumbria. Sorry, that was not my intention, I wanted to highlight that he is an expert in traditional folk Celtic instruments.
@@gabriel.bardac My mistake! I was thinking of balalaika! D'oh! Of course I knew the bouzuki was Greek. I just had a brain fart! It was late and I share Jukka's insomnia problem. Yes, Troy is an expert, but those instruments aren't really Celtic, they're from the British Isles (including Ireland) where Celtic culture died out many centuries ago.
Kai replaced Jukka because of Jukka's problematic insomnia. Kai was recommended by Jukka. Troy is the sixth member who became a permanent member at the same time as Floor. He had already played in previous NW albums .Troy is playing an Irish Bazouki in this song. He also plays various whistles, flutes and bagpipes along with guitar. Great. Reaction. Greetings from Romania!

Wolves is 100% - Rock Your Socks Off. Marko's bass lines pulsing the walls. Great song. Nightwish opened this Wembley show with one of the best show openers you can imagine - "Shudder Before the Beautiful" . Mrs. Coach won't stop playing this one. It's one of Nightwish very best, holy smokes it about blows the roof off of Wembley.
Who ever knew that the Irish bouzouki could be this metal? Troy Donocley plays a multitude of instruments and every one is in its perfect place in Nightwish.
HOOOWL !!! WEMBLEY LETS GOOO !! This is a solid powerhouse - Build up followed by Build up by Build up…..awesome. Only Nightwish will dare to play a Bouzouki in a metal song and make it sound great :-) And in the second half our Queen nearly turns into a Werewolf :-) This is just great. All hail the Valkyrie Goddess !
The way Floor's and Marko's voices compliment each other in this song is without peer. The whole dynamic of 7DttW is amazing. It's an absolute treat to hear Nightwish performing this song live.
Floor goes into beast mode! She is the Queen!🎸🤘The man that you asked about is Troy. He is a multi-instrumental musician, he also sings. They have a more jazz song, Slow, Love, Slow.
Nightwish has written and produced a jazzy/bluesy song called "Slow, Love, Slow". It was originally sung by Anette, but Floor has performed it both with Nightwish and during her solo shows. The solo show: ruclips.net/video/bBG8GdyLYDk/видео.html Most of the Nightwish videos are fan shot, so of dubious quality. The one from the Montreux Jazz Festival, featuring Anette, was reasonably well produced.
I consider the music of Nightwish to be today's classics. People will listen to it after hundreds of years, appreciate it like we do now, probably learning in school what is genius about it. I don't hear a genre, like metal, or symphonic metal. Nightwish is it's own genre. How lucky we are to live in the same era they're composing and performing this beautiful music. We can go hear them play live. So lucky we are 🙏🏼
Great reaction. This is one of Floors personal favourites - and mine. Floor loves Wolves ... she has a Wolf tattoo behind one ear and a Dog tattoo behind the other (these represent both sides of her personality.) You've been told about the new drummer Kai Hahto, but here you also met Troy Donockley, an English multi-instrumentalist who joined Nightwish formally at the same time as Floor, although he had played part-time with them for some time prior. You will see him more and more as you continue this journey, playing the Irish Bouzouki (as he is here), Uilleann pipes (an Irish bagpipe), various whistles and guitar. He also provides backing vocals and indeed lead vocals on "Harvest", a song from their last album "Human || Nature". This was a home gig for him, and the accomplishment of a childhood dream - to play at Wembley. Cheers from Australia.
Metal Mozart hard at work... Tuomas Holopainen is the brains behind this whole operation. He pours his heart and soul into these songs and you can feel it... The compositions are incredible and performers are on top of their game. Metal music is the closest thing to classical music we have today. Which is why the music is so good. There are no clear established patterns to the songs and the music moves and takes you to places without any narration. Brilliant stuff!
Floor has two tattoos behind her ears: behind one ear a wolve, behind the other a dog. She said in an interview that they symbolize her two sides. In this song she obviously shows her inner wolve.
Floor has sung the Blues, releasing "Me Without You" in 2022" as part or her parallel solo career. I suggest the video from the tiny town of Hertme; around 500 people, a church, restaurant, nightclub (Floor sang in the nightclub wearing a beautiful "Jazz dress"). Amazing how incredible Floor sounds as it's just raw footage a fan took with a sometimes shaky handheld camera: "Floor Jansen Me Without You (New Single) live 03.09.2022 Hertme". (Floor can sing anything, including Rap. Floor turned a famous German Rap artist's song into a meld of Rap, Classical, and Metal; the German singer/songwriter just held her head in total disbelief and awe while listening to Floor; all the other musicians on that German show, "Sing Meinen Song" were totally overwhelmed, not believing how amazing Floor was).
This is one of the songs that I particularly love because of the combination of Floor's and Marko's voices. Their duets add so much to any song. Marko is a terrific singer on his own. One of the best with Nightwish is the cover of Pink Floyd's "High Hopes" from the End of an Era DVD. Others, from outside of Nightwish include "Tides" with his own band "Tarot" and his new single "Left on Mars" which features Tarja, the first vocalist from Nightwish.
Kai and Jukka have been friends for a while. Kai taught Jukka the jazz drumming on "Slow, Love, Slow" (around 2005/6) (the live version at Montreaux Jazz Festival in 2012 is great!) - about the same time, 2006/7 - Troy Donockley (the new multi-instrumentalist) was assisting Nightwish with the Anette albums. Kai had also been Jukka's drum-tech for a few years up to Wacken or a little later when not with Wintersun (his other band). This song was partly inspired by Stephen King "The Wolves of Calla". With wolves (or dingoes) it's not the ones you can hear behind you that you need to worry about - it's the silent ones who have circled ahead of you and are now on either side! 12:52 your video time - see Floor's face!!!?
Love you guys - one of Floor's favourite songs - her spirit animal is the wolf and her "howl" in the closing stages of this performance is EPIC. I also hear the inspiration is a Stephen King novella (name escapes me). But the expected awesome Nightwish/Floor wondefulness (sic)
Sidenote: Floor is an animal lover anyway, but she has a tatoo of a wolfe behind her one ear which she relates to her out of home beeing and a dog behind the other one which she relates to herself as a family guy.
Full disclosure (assuming you haven’t recorded it and not posted yet): they go hard. You started out with the Light Valkyrie, and are starting to flirt with the Dark Valkyrie. You guys might as well go full dark side. There are cookies.
Yes this is a different drummer. This is Kai Hahto. The human metronome. He took over when Jukka stepped down due to his health. He has bad insomnia. But he is still with Nightwish in the background. Kai plays in his own band Wintersun and when Jukka asked him he did not think twice. The new bass player Jukka Koskinen is also from Wintersun. The second guy is Troy Donneckly. He is a multi instrumentplayer and he became a full member at the same time that Floor did.
@@CoachCastTVWill always love Jukka. Kai is a different animal. He's in my top 10 fav drummers. He studied for a while with Freddy Gruber, an amazing jazz drummer in his own right, and has taught my all time fav drummer Neil Peart of Rush. Fun fact, Kai is a natural lefty, but plays as is he's a right handed drummer. He's beyond amazing in my opinion.
It's lucky that Mrs Coach is there to keep Mr Coach in check 😂Nightwish are an experience and leave everything on stage. Mrs Coach has fallen down the rabbit hole big time. Cheers, Rich

Great reaction....as usual. Nightwish has a few "secret weapons" that come to light. Obviously, Floor (enough said). Marko Hietala's voice will blow you away even more as you go along. This is a new drummer for you. His name is Kai, and he's a beast of a drummer. Finally, the guy playing the other part is Troy. He sings and plays almost every instrument you can imagine, it seems. (Uilleann pipes, tin whistle, vocals, guitar, keyboards, bass guitar, bouzouki, cittern, bodhrán, mandola) Keep up the great reactions!!!!!
I'm catching up with what I missed... Epic vocals, as always... (thanks for picking the subtitles!). I always wince at the headbanging, though, because of the damage it has to potential to cause! I particularly loved the little guitar solo!
Enjoyed your reaction, thank you. You noticed Troy ( only on stag for a dew songs at Wacken ) And drummer Kai. You didn't mention that Floor has a lot of new Ink since Wacken ( probably just being polite ). Look forward to your next reaction, maybe Buenos Aires or Tampere, both great concerts. Be well.
Greetings from Finland, I am happy that you have found Nightwish. I found Nightwish through a good friend when I was a young man just turned 50, I am 64 now, and still rock out to them. Their music is so complex and interesting, I promise you will have a real roller coaster of emotions and feelings throughout your exploration of this amazing band, But all in a good way. So buckle up and enjoy the wonderful world of Tuomas Holoppainen´s (the keyboardplayer and composer) music, amazing musicians and all 3 of the lovely ladies Tarja, Anette and Floor´s vocals
Blues....the 'hows the heart' accoustic is about as close as i can think. Another rabbit hole.... Ayreon, 'the day that the world breaks down' ciuld be the perfect song for this...
I have seen Nightwish 121 times in 32 countries across 4 continents. The manager of Nightwish calls me the Crazy Number 1 fan in the world. I have met Tuomas many times. The band know I am writing a book about Nightwish and my travels and the band knows this. I am providing detailed explanations of all 117 Nightwish songs. This the biggest project I have ever undertaken. The band are my life. I hope to finish the book by end of 2024 and will forward to Nightwish band members for comment. A publisher is interested in my book and it will go on worldwide distribution through Amazon and other distributors.
This song has a special place in my heart !!! Not just because wolf is Estonian national animal and my spirit animal, but the windmill battle between Tuomas and Floor .... Plus, Floor's inner Wolf Howl !!! holy mother of Odin !!! So, not so new people on stage, well at least for you 😉: The sixth member Troy Donockley "The Bard" (is an English composer and multi-instrumentalist most known for his playing of Uilleann pipes, tin whistle, vocals, guitar, keyboards, bass guitar, pump organ, bouzouki, cittern, bodhrán, mandola, harmonium, aerophone). Troy is playing an Electric Bouzouki ( A musical instrument popular in Greece. It is a member of the long-necked lute family, with a round body with a flat top and a long neck with a fretted fingerboard.). And on Drums: Kai Hahto is "The Human Metronome", or in my book Kai "The Machine Gun" Hahto ( is a Finnish musician and drummer). On 6 August 2014, it was announced that Hahto will be playing drums on the forthcoming Nightwish album, replacing Jukka Nevalainen, who went on hiatus from the band due to insomnia, and Hahto performed on all live shows since that date. On July 15, 2019, Hahto became Nightwish's permanent drummer following Nevalainen's decision not to return to the band. As for that Keyboardstand, well, We as Fan's know it as "The Groot" 😁! I have seen this song Live in my home country Estonia, although it was without Marko (Marko left the band, but now we have a new Bass Player Jukka "Gentle Giant" Koskinen), but Troy really steps up and harmonizes with Floor like never before. Still getting goosebumps, even if I write in here. And that Emppu solo... He just teases you with that (just look at that grin he is making). The title is taken from a King's novel called “Wolves of the Calla”. But the conception of the book has nothing to do with the text behind the song, it is far more inspired by the film "Dead Poets' Society". The main idea is - one must live his life the best he can, to strive for his aims, because the wolves are always 7 days behind you and they will catch you if your life is not of full value... and then you will be only dead meat. That's what Tuomas said in one interview some time ago. Howl and thank you!!! NWSU/FloorFan/Epican/Ayreonaut/TWA 🤘🐺🤘.
Hi guys, great reaction to a great song & Wembly !! You mentioned during this reaction that maybe you would like to listen to a song Nightwish do along the lines of R & B, well I do have a song in mind, it could be R&B, or it could be Jazz, it's up to you, none the less, thinking you will enjoy it ! the video is ....Nightwish Slow Love Slow live Montreux Jazz Festival 2012...
Great reaction, as always! You know, I am 54 years old, and discovered this band only couple of years ago. Been listening loads of music my whole life. I didn’t believe, that in this age I’d find something new, different and exciting in music. I was so wrong! This band made me feel so many emotions, it was truly a ride listening through their production. And watching their live performances, seeing how much they enjoy performing together, it’s just magical! I really envy you, experiencing these performances for the very first time!
Nightwish are their own genre of music. They are by far my favorite band. I've tried to listen to other "symphonic metal" bands and while some of them are pretty good it's not the same thing.
I’m a member of the senior division of the Nightwish Army, and in listening to all kinds of music for the last 60+ years, Nightwish has emerged in the past few years as one of my two most favorite bands ever. And, like Mrs. Coach, I’ve never been a great fan of metal. Thanks for your reactions to Floor and the.guys.
I am also a big fan of Nightwish, and I am enjoying your journey down the rabbit hole. For something new you should react to A family band called Liliac. They started out in the early years doing covers, but now they have three CD,s of originals. Everything they do is great.
"The Poet and the Pendulum" and "Yours Is an Empty Hope", also from Wembly, are well worth a listen, too. The former is a dark piece (Tuomas was in a very dark place at the time - he'd had a thing for their first vocalist, who left/was fired), but it's a terrific musical trip. The latter has a big surprise for you in the vocals.
As you will see, what makes Nightwish themselves, is their music which notes and lyrics are 99% composed by Tuomas Holopainen, the Keyboardist and true leader of the band. Since 1996 Nightwish had several changes in their lineup. They changed vocalist and bassist three times (the last replacement happened in 2021, when Marko left), they added another member (Troy, the musician playing the second Guitar (actually a Bouzuki) and that was already touring with them during before joining as a full member in 2013. What ties everything together is Tuomas' music that really takes them apart from other symphonic metal bands.
When you listen NW you should forget all genres...or see NW as genre of it's own! Just listen and let go with the feeling! Can't be unnoticed that growing love for NW in Mrs. Coach face....😊
Love this performance. 😊 There is a Jazzy song the last singer Annette & Marko sang at the Montreal Jazz Music Festival called "Slow Love Slow." Not sure if it is bluesy enough for you, but it might be. 😉 There is a fan video called Nightwish "bringing the 'southern blues' to the house" which was recorded right after Floor joined them and it is just the end of Slow Love Slow; it gives you an idea what Floor might do with the song. It's a pity it's not the full song. Next, you should also check out "I Want My Tears Back" from Buenos Aires so you can see the cool instrument Troy excels in playing. :) That one is so fun between an amazing audience and the bands awesome performance.
If you want to hear Floor with a superb piano accompaniment then listen to "Alone". As a piano teacher and classically trained, Nightwish fills 98% of what I love in music.
Watch The Greatest Show On Earth from this same Wembley concert. Amazing! And for a more bluesy/jazzy sound, watch Slow Love Slow with the previous singer, Annette. There is a music video for that one.
Nightwish Army South Germany Division here Hello, Mrs and Mr Coach One more thing to say about Kai: If he is unable to perform for whatever reason, hopefully his son Joonatan will be able to step in without any problem. There are several videos of the two of them here on YT where they play "Nemo" together on the drum sets. In Germany we say: "The apple doesn't fall far from the tree". I think that says it all... Just look for it. But the sound quality isn't exactly the best, but at least good enough to hear everything. Best wishes from Germany The Lady
To answer your questions: 1 Kai Hahto drums (replaced Jukka Nevalainen) 2 Troy Donockley multi-instrumentalist and 6th member 3 That wooden thing before the keyboard is GROOT from the movie
I don't think there is a blues song, but they have done Folk-metal (My Walden Tampere 2015) and even one time did jazz with Anette Olzon as singer, the song is called Slow, Love, Slow at the Montreux festival 2012
For a great introduction to multi-instrumentalist Troy Donockle (here playing the Irish bouzuki) I highly recommend you react to "My Walden" from this same Wembley 2015 concert. It is a real showcase for Troy as he introduces the song, sings the opening verses in Welsh and plays the low whistle and Irish Uillean pipes
Tuoma's keyboard stand is made after a decapitated, crucified man, and at the same time forms a figurehead of the Nightwish ship, just as Tuomas is the figurehead of Nightwish. It was designed after the theme of their specific song they sang during this concert: "The Poet and the Pendulum", in which he symbolically beheads himself after the 2005 break with their 1st female vocalist. There will come a time when you will experience one of their most beautiful songs, but not yet. (The Big Three: "Ghost Love Score", "The Greatest Show on Earth" and "The Poet and the Pendulum")
Nice reaction, thank you.
That "guy being crucified" on the Keyboard is in fact an effigy of Groot, a character from Marvel Comic's "Guardians Of The Galaxy" who is a sort of treeman. He isn't being crucified, I think his arms are outspread in order to hold the keyboards! The 'other guitarist' is English multi-instrumentalist Troy Donockley who joined NW at about the same time as Floor after doing session work for them and touring with them for some time. He can be seen on many of the songs from the Wacken concert. He is also in the band Auri, with NW keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen and Tuomas' wife Johanna. Blues? NW recorded "Slow Love Slow" on their "Imaginaerum" album back when Anette Olzen was vocalist: ruclips.net/video/t6l4H689FtM/видео.html
The guy at the back is Troy Donacley. He is a multi instrumentalist, who only appears in certain songs. He is English and became a full member of the band at the same time as Floor. It is a different drummer. His name is Kia Hato. Jukka the previous drummer suffered from insomnia and became ill. He stood down to let his good friend Kia take over. Kia is a fantastic drummer.
@@CoachCastTV Troy has been a part of the band for quite some time, but officially joined the band at the same time as Floor. With Marco's departure from Nightwish, he is on stage most of the time now as besides all of his instrumentals, he also sings backup now. He is brilliant and also is in AURI, the other project with Tuomas and his wife, Johanna.
@@CoachCastTV 4:24 Tuomas loves his "distinctive looking" keyboard stands. They always get noticed, but don't read too much into them. That one always reminded me more of a figure on a bow of a ship, but that's me.
First of all I want to say that I totally enjoy your comments and your softly sliding into this magic Nightwish rabbit hole, that I discovered maybe a year ago. Since then, no day walks by without a daily dope of Nightwish, Floor or related stuff we may discuss later. For today - as Mrs Coach likes Floor as much as I do I want to recommend one song to you which I will probably see live on 1st of June in Eindhoven/NL on a Floor Jansen Solo concert and which shows a very different side of Floor. It is an old nightwish song, first played at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 2012 - then it was the Singer Anette Olson - now done by Floor with her Tourband known from 'The best sängers' which bombshelled the Netherlands. Here is the link, looking forward to see your reaction! Best wishes and greetings from Germany!!! ruclips.net/video/bBG8GdyLYDk/видео.html
I have heard this song live a number of times, most notably in Amsterdam, Wembley and Seoul. Amsterdam was my favourite because it was so thunderously loud. The part after "let's go" is so exhilarating! You feel the double bass kickdrums punching you in the gut, and you hear those two glorious voices soaring on top of the music and it is just bliss!

Kai Hahto is the current drummer who stepped in to replace his good friend Jukka Nevalainen. Jukka suffers from severe insomnia and couldn't continue touring anymore. The multiinstrumentalist that plays guitar with ebow is Troy Donockley. Troy have been helping out since 2007 when he played on some songs on the "Dark Passion Play". He and Floor was offered to join Nightwish in late 2013.
Hahahahahaha. They made a jazz song. Slow love slow. It´s with the second singer Anette. And to me she kills it. In a good way. There is a live version with Floor but I like it with Anette even more
@@CoachCastTV Slow Love Slow is wonderful. The version to look for is the live version from the Montreux Jazz Festival in 2012. Anette's mother was a jazz vocalist so Annette does a great job on this song.
Mrs. Coach said she's interested in hearing the first 2 singers. For original singer, Tarja Turunen, suggest going to the 2005 Helsinki concert (End of an Era DVD) and try either "The Siren" or their cover of "Phantom of the Opera". (Also at that show, Marko singing lead on the cover/tribute of Pink Floyd's "High Hopes") For 2nd lead singer Anette Olzon, suggest the music video for "Amaranth" or , for a jazz like song, "Slow Love Slow" from the 2012 Montreux jazz festival.
Thank you for another great reaction, I just had some time to look before i’m going to celebrate Kings day Here in the Netherlands. At least I’m going out in a good mood so, thanks for that.
Good one. Yours is an empty hope, same show next ? Troy is the one maybe you haven't seen, he plays guitar, pipes etc. New drummer is Kai as stated below, Try I want my tears back live from Buenos Aires to see more of Troy on the pipes. You might also like Sancta Terra Floor singing with Epica.
Im not sure about blues songs you requested but there is a jazz song. Slow love slow It is a treat ❤❤❤ Please check both Anette and Floor versions. Both of them are doing amazing job.
Thanks for entertaining us with another Nightwish live performance. In one of his interviews Tuomas Holopainen, the composer & keyboardist of Nightwish, told this about this song: "The title is taken from a King's novel called “Wolves of the Calla”, but the book has nothing to do with the song's lyrics, which are far more inspired by the film "Dead Poets' Society". The main idea is that one must live his life the best he can, to strive for his aims, because the wolves are always 7 days behind and they will catch you if your life is not of full value... and then you will be only dead meat. My favorite part of the lyrics is: "This is my church of choice. Love’s strength standeth in love’s sacrifice." P.S. The drummer in this is their current drummer, Kai Hahto, who is good friends with their founding drummer Jukka Nevalainen. You should absolutely check out Kai with one of his former bands called Wintersun: "Wintersun - Time (TIME I Live Rehearsals At Sonic Pump Studios) REMASTER."
This one is all about a concept called "Carpe Diem". This is one of Floor's favorite songs to sing. Live every day to its fullest. The metaphors (wolves & poison) are never very far away. We may die tomorrow. Heroes' live every day and take chances. Don't be afraid to dream and strive for them each day. Cowards never dare to try for fear of failure. Yes a new drummer, Kai Hahto. Also added a multi-instrumentalist, Troy Donockley. IMHO - I think the crucified keyboard stand is representing the character "Groot" from the "Guardians of the Galaxy" movies. He is a living tree and part of the Guardians. Tuomas and all of Nightwish are nature lovers and this may represent how mankind sacrifices old growth forest for for our own selfish reasons. Remember metaphors. "Suffer like al the dead children" means they are suffering due to their lost innocence and the cruelty of the real world. Mrs. Coach is obviously very intelligent. She feels the artistry of Nightwish even though she is not a metalhead, so to speak. Hey Coach, Nightwish has few softer songs that you and your lovely wife may love. 🌹🌹Maybe not traditional blues songs, but a whole different side of Nightwish. This one is a Nightwish song originally recorded and sung by Annette Olzon (2nd vocalist of Nightwish before Floor). Floor performs it at her live solo show with her solo band. New drummer. Drummer you saw at Wacken was Jukka (YOOK-ah) Nevalainen (NEVVA-line-en), one of the founding members. He had to step aside from the drumkit after 2013 because of medical issues. The grueling tour schedules, I guess, took their toll. He still works with the band, but I guess you could say, figuratively speaking, he turned in his drumsticks and bandana for a business suit, as he is now listed by Dun & Bradstreet as Chief Executive Officer of the company that manages their venue bookings and what not. I think I got that right. I''m sure somebody will correct any details I flubbed. The new drummer is Kai (KYE) Hahto (HAW-toe), a long time friend of Jukka and former drum tech for him. Jukka reportedly hand-picked Kai to be his replacement, and they "stole" / "borrowed" / ? him from fellow Finnish metal band Wintersun. I say borrowed because he is now playing with Wintersun again during Nightwish's tour hiatus. The other guy you asked about is British multi-instrumentalist Troy Donockley. He has collaborated with NW, in the background, for a long time and was added, officially, as a new fulltime member at the same time as Floor. He plays the bozouki (kind of like a Greek mandolin), regular guitar with ebow, various pipes, flutes, and whistles, and most notably the Uillean pipes, a type of old Gaelic bagpipe that is pumped with a bellows under the elbow rather than blown like their Scottish counterparts.
To build on other comments, Kai is a spectacular drummer, and he was recommended by Jukka because Kai was his mentor and friend. He could not have chosen better. As you explore other Nightwish, you will find he doesn't hit as hard as Jukka, but he is extremely expressive and passionate in his drumming. Yeah, I always bring up AURI, but Tuomas uses Kai in that project for percussion, and he only chooses the best!
For me, I love how this song starts by introducing all it's layers, one at a time. I also REALLY enjoy how well Emppu's guitar's level is tucked INTO the song, rather than being heaped on top of it. ... up until the end when it becomes and overpowering, slamming, ever-increasing impetus to the song's climax. Troy, who plays Irish Bouzouki in this video, gives Live Nightwish an audio edge over many other 'conventional' metal or rock bands. His bagpipes are a great addition to songs like I Want My Tears Back. In that same song, his is the third voice in the harmony stackup in the chorus. And he and Emppu seem to break out laughing during those 'show each other the guitar neck' moments ... you know, the times when one guitarist burst out into 'stank face' and shows the other what he's playing... like they haven't played it 30 thousand times before... I've played guitar for well over 40 years and I still don't get what that's all about. Anyway... I digress. If you ever here a flute (usually a Low Flute, which looks like a giant recorder), It's Troy. If you ever hear the piper callin ya', it's Troy on the Uilleannn pipes.** If you ever hear a cello, it's just might be Troy on his PRS with an Ebow. (Greatest Show on Earth at Wembley) Troy is kinda like that vinegar-based BBQ sauce that's somewhere on the picnic table.. You look at it and say "why would I want this stuff on my tasty brisket ends OR on my Symph9onic Metal?.. and then you give him a serious listen and realize that his contributions are the both the glue and the spice that held the song together. (OK, if vinegar sauce isn't your thing, then how about plum-habanero?... one of my personal favs. And my apologies to Floor and the other veggies in the band for the BBQ reference... try the plum-habanero on grilled eggplant, it's insanely good!!). And now that we've tied Nightwish, oddball instruments, and festive foods together, it's time to go out and fix the shifter on my 2007 F250... one day I will remember to put some thread locker on those T-30 bolts... one day ... but probably not today. At my age, I'm lucky to remember pants in a rain storm (western Oregon here... we still have rainstorms, lol.) ** if you ever want to talk old school trad-Irish music, I can do that, mostly due to my years playin Bothy Band covers, and getting the rare chance to play with Kevin and Michael themselves.
Mrs. Coach might very much enjoy and appreciate watching some of the “home videos” that Floor posted to her YT channel during the pandemic. To me they were a unique look into a “Rock Valkyrie's" amazingly grounded personal life.
Hello Mr and Mrs Coach. Wembley show is as perfect as Wracken. I can promise to you. All of them are sooooooooo good. Keep going. New subscriber here. Nice to see you. Greeting from Greece.
The drummer is Kai…he replaced Jukka (at Jukka’s recommendation) when Jukka had to step down for health reasons (he is actually still with the band, just behind the scenes). The other guy you haven’t seen before is Troy. He became a full time member at the same time Floor did, but they had not incorporated him into the show very much at the time of the Wacken 2013 show. As you watch videos from shows since then, you’ll see and hear him a lot more. He plays all sorts of non-metal instruments like Uilleann pipes (Irish bagpipes), bouzouki (which he’s playing in this video), flutes and whistles, as well as guitar and even sings, too.
Troy Donockley has been with Nightwish since 2007 as a session/touring musician and then a permanent member of the band in 2013 at the same times as Floor. He plays a variety of instruments, but he was not on stage for every song while Marko was still with the band. These days Troy is onstage for most songs and provides backing vocals for Floor. In the older performances, when we think it's just Floor and Marko singing, Troy is often in the mix as well. Once your ear gets attuned to his voice, you'll be able to pick up the three part harmonies on some songs. Troy plays a variety of instruments with Nightwish: the Irish Bouzouki that you see here, the Ulleann bagpipes (ill-en), the guitar (usually with an E-Bow), and a variety of whistles.
Another artist to look at is Eva Cassidy. Unfortunately she died in 1996 at age 33 of melanoma, before she could experience her success. Some songs you will appreciate are; Blues in the Night, Autumn Leaves, Songbird,
This is My Song, chosen for me by my wife because of my habit of thinking disaster is at the door. She says "you've got seven days, are you going to spend them cowering or live life while you've got it?" - and you know what? It does actually help! Most of your questions have been answered, one I haven't spotted is that the keyboard stand is basically Groot (he used to have a Jack Sparrow doll back around 2005).
I'm sure everyone has told you about Kai taking over for Jukka and Troy's multi-instrumental madness, and detailed all their favorite Tuomas Keyboard Stands. I love this song. It's based on Stephen King's Dark Tower books, specifically book 5, Wolves of the Calla. Tuomas makes a couple Dark Tower references in a few songs, he's obviously a big fan, but this is the only song I know of that is completely Dark Tower centric. This is another great concert with a ton of great songs in it. I might suggest branching out to another Concert, Burnos Aires 2018 and giving Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean a shot. I think you'll really like it
This is great info and we appreciate you dropping by again. This has been a very fun journey for us.
Very cool. Thanks for this!
Troy also sings and is epicly hilarious 😄
@@CoachCastTV appreciate u both, but could you make your video box a bit bigger ? majority of reactors do so, and many put the music video in full backround with reactors smaller imposed ovelray which makes for a better viewer experience
@@CoachCastTV Jukka is still working with Nightwish as a manager.
@@nicod1361I prefer the way they’re doing it now. When I watch reaction videos, I am more interested in looking at their reaction than watching the performance. If I want to watch performance, I watch the actual video, not reaction video.
Nightwish is its' own genre. No other band is even close to what they do. You might like "Slow Love Slow" for a blues/jazz feel.
Noted. Thank you!
@@CoachCastTV Slow Love Slow features the bands second singer, Anette.
@@Duskwind_ Added it to our to-do list.
Floor sang this song on her sole tour...its awsome

🤗🍒🤘🏻😘Great Job again and yes two slow songs are not really blues but you can try Sleeping Sun and slow love slow, of course with Floor
Wembley LET'S GOOOOOO
Please listen to While your lips are still red at Wembley
Only Nightwish will dare to play a Bouzouki in a metal song and make it sound great :-)
And in the second half our Queen nearly turns into a Werewolf :-)
This is just great.
All hail the Valkyrie Goddess !
The way Floor's and Marko's voices compliment each other in this song is without peer. The whole dynamic of 7DttW is amazing. It's an absolute treat to hear Nightwish performing this song live.
When Floor says "Let's go" - you GO!!!
Floor goes into beast mode! She is the Queen!🎸🤘The man that you asked about is Troy. He is a multi-instrumental musician, he also sings. They have a more jazz song, Slow, Love, Slow.
Have loved this band since 98. Mrs Coach might like within temptation,
Nightwish has written and produced a jazzy/bluesy song called "Slow, Love, Slow". It was originally sung by Anette, but Floor has performed it both with Nightwish and during her solo shows.
The solo show: ruclips.net/video/bBG8GdyLYDk/видео.html
Most of the Nightwish videos are fan shot, so of dubious quality. The one from the Montreux Jazz Festival, featuring Anette, was reasonably well produced.
One of the best lines ever in music: “Is this where heroes and cowards part ways?”
As far I'm concerned is this one of the best NW song. All within the greatness of all their songs. Rock on, in special Mrs. Coach.
It's all about feeling the music. Nightwish and especially Floor with her voice makes you to feel the music. Not only listening to, but feeling.
Another reactor I enjoy watching lkes to say, there are 2 things you can't control; what makes you tap your toes and what makes you genuinely laugh.
This was one of my favorite song performances of this concert. The energy is intoxicating, and floor is just so powerful.
I went last year to watch the
At Wembley - they were shit and I've never been SO disappointed Marco you're SO missed bu😫😫😫😭😭😭😭😭
Floor felt that, too 😀
This is one of the songs that I particularly love because of the combination of Floor's and Marko's voices.
Thanks for that additional info. We appreciate you!
Sidenote: Floor is an animal lover anyway, but she has a tatoo of a wolfe behind her one ear which she relates to her out of home beeing and a dog behind the other one which she relates to herself as a family guy.
"Wolves of the Calla", which was volume 5 in the Dark Tower series.
Troy plays guitar, bazuki, low whistle, tin whistle and Uullean pipes, (Irish bagpipes).
Ok. I think it’s time to expose Mrs Coach to “Yours is an Empty Hope” at Wembley. Full send.
Full disclosure (assuming you haven’t recorded it and not posted yet): they go hard. You started out with the Light Valkyrie, and are starting to flirt with the Dark Valkyrie. You guys might as well go full dark side. There are cookies.
Kai Hahto (born 31.12 1973 Vaasa in Finland) is Finnish drummer. Nightwish drummer since 2014 .Greetings from Finland 🤘
Great to know. Thanks for the info!
@@CoachCastTV you're welcome
@@CoachCastTVWill always love Jukka. Kai is a different animal. He's in my top 10 fav drummers. He studied for a while with Freddy Gruber, an amazing jazz drummer in his own right, and has taught my all time fav drummer Neil Peart of Rush. Fun fact, Kai is a natural lefty, but plays as is he's a right handed drummer. He's beyond amazing in my opinion.
Kai Hahto🥁💪💪🔥
It's lucky that Mrs Coach is there to keep Mr Coach in check 😂Nightwish are an experience and leave everything on stage. Mrs Coach has fallen down the rabbit hole big time. Cheers, Rich
She sure has!
Looking forward to see your reactions too The greatest show on earth live in Tampere and The poet and the pendulum live att Wembley! Greetings from Sweden
Hi, try "Slow Love" it is a good one for Misses Coach .. or "My Walden"!!

Great reaction. As mentioned by many Nightwish is a journey as they have been discovered by people a long time after they formed
A song they performed at a blues festival called slow love, slow.... you'll get a taste of their blues ability
One of my favorites!!! That moment when they lights turn blue with the line "Light the fire, feast" I get chills every time it's so badass. Plus has one of my favorite lines of all time "turn every poet loose" 🤘
😊😊😊😊Floor has a great voice. Thank for the introduction
This is my favorite Nightwish song.
(Uilleann pipes, tin whistle, vocals, guitar, keyboards, bass guitar, bouzouki, cittern, bodhrán, mandola)
Keep up the great reactions!!!!!
Thanks so much!
For a different, more bluesy feel, try Nightwish with Floor singing Slow Love Slow. I am pretty sure Mrs. Coach will love that.
Be well.
Can't wait to see You react to (Nightwish - Yours Is An Empty Hope) 🤘😎
Epica fronted by Simone who is Floors bestie actually so should check them out.
Appreciate that. Thank you!
That's fantastic. I'm sure Mrs. Coach will buy a copy. Best of luck with it.
This song has a special place in my heart !!! Not just because wolf is Estonian national animal and my spirit animal, but the windmill battle between Tuomas and Floor ....
Plus, Floor's inner Wolf Howl !!! holy mother of Odin !!!
So, not so new people on stage, well at least for you 😉:
The sixth member Troy Donockley "The Bard" (is an English composer and multi-instrumentalist most known for his playing of Uilleann pipes, tin whistle, vocals, guitar, keyboards, bass guitar, pump organ, bouzouki, cittern, bodhrán, mandola, harmonium, aerophone).
Troy is playing an Electric Bouzouki ( A musical instrument popular in Greece. It is a member of the long-necked lute family, with a round body with a flat top and a long neck with a fretted fingerboard.).
And on Drums:
Kai Hahto is "The Human Metronome", or in my book Kai "The Machine Gun" Hahto ( is a Finnish musician and drummer).
Nice comment, and we appreciate the background meaning explanation.
If it's blues you want, then NW's "Slow love slow" has that covered.
For a reason or another, 7 Days to the Wolves has become one of the biggest favorites of mine. Greetings from the Nightwishland a.k.a Finland 🇫🇮
if you love the growls you can try Disdain by Revamp Floor´s former band!
Hi guys, great reaction to a great song & Wembly !! You mentioned during this reaction that maybe you would like to listen
to a song Nightwish do along the lines of R & B, well I do have a song in mind, it could be R&B, or it could be Jazz, it's up to you,
none the less, thinking you will enjoy it ! the video is ....Nightwish Slow Love Slow live Montreux Jazz Festival 2012...
Yes, same here...
Thank you for your comments. So pleased you have discovered most unique band of all time.
It is not heavy metal, it is heavenly metal❤
There is a Jazzy song the last singer Annette & Marko sang at the Montreal Jazz Music Festival called "Slow Love Slow." Not sure if it is bluesy enough for you, but it might be. 😉
There is a fan video called Nightwish "bringing the 'southern blues' to the house" which was recorded right after Floor joined them and it is just the end of Slow Love Slow; it gives you an idea what Floor might do with the song. It's a pity it's not the full song.
Next, you should also check out "I Want My Tears Back" from Buenos Aires so you can see the cool instrument Troy excels in playing. :)
That one is so fun between an amazing audience and the bands awesome performance.
If you want to hear Floor with a superb piano accompaniment then listen to "Alone". As a piano teacher and classically trained, Nightwish fills 98% of what I love in music.
UK Army popping in.. great reaction to a banging track.
Thanks very much!
Watch The Greatest Show On Earth from this same Wembley concert. Amazing! And for a more bluesy/jazzy sound, watch Slow Love Slow with the previous singer, Annette. There is a music video for that one.
Nightwish Army South Germany Division here
Hello, Mrs and Mr Coach
One more thing to say about Kai: If he is unable to perform for whatever reason, hopefully his son Joonatan will be able to step in without any problem. There are several videos of the two of them here on YT where they play "Nemo" together on the drum sets. In Germany we say: "The apple doesn't fall far from the tree". I think that says it all...
Just look for it. But the sound quality isn't exactly the best, but at least good enough to hear everything.
Best wishes from Germany
The Lady
That's very cool!
To answer your questions: 1 Kai Hahto drums (replaced Jukka Nevalainen) 2 Troy Donockley multi-instrumentalist and 6th member 3 That wooden thing before the keyboard is GROOT from the movie
Thanks!
I don't think there is a blues song, but they have done Folk-metal (My Walden Tampere 2015) and even one time did jazz with Anette Olzon as singer, the song is called Slow, Love, Slow at the Montreux festival 2012
It oher interview Floor says:”7 days Of the Wolves is my favourite song”
Old drummer Jukka and new drummer Kai are very good friends.
Well that sounds interesting.
Nicely said. Thank you!
Got it. "I am Groot!" LOL
Thanks for this info.
@@chadbennett7873 Wow, ok. Some very talented individuals in this group, obviously.
"Donockley"

Thanks. We appreciate this!
There is a live version with Floor but I like it with Anette even more
Sounds interesting.
@@CoachCastTV Slow Love Slow is wonderful. The version to look for is the live version from the Montreux Jazz Festival in 2012. Anette's mother was a jazz vocalist so Annette does a great job on this song.
@@WNYretireeI concur
Slow Love Slow
@@robertsheeler321 Hahahaha true. Got it mixed there
Mrs. Coach said she's interested in hearing the first 2 singers.
For original singer, Tarja Turunen, suggest going to the 2005 Helsinki concert (End of an Era DVD) and try either "The Siren" or their cover of "Phantom of the Opera". (Also at that show, Marko singing lead on the cover/tribute of Pink Floyd's "High Hopes")
For 2nd lead singer Anette Olzon, suggest the music video for "Amaranth" or , for a jazz like song, "Slow Love Slow" from the 2012 Montreux jazz festival.
Thank you.
Thank you for another great reaction, I just had some time to look before i’m going to celebrate Kings day Here in the Netherlands. At least I’m going out in a good mood so, thanks for that.
Awesome! Have a great time!
Slow love slow
It is a treat ❤❤❤
Please check both Anette and Floor versions. Both of them are doing amazing job.
Love that you have watched doc about Nightwish/Floor, would love it even more if you made reaction of it ❤
Thanks for entertaining us with another Nightwish live performance.
Love’s strength standeth in love’s sacrifice."
@@danielisrael1788 Exactement.
Beautiful song.

Wow...Troy sounds quite versatile. Thank you for this info!
That is a huge understatement !
Wembley is legendary.
All concert is great.
For different Nightwish experience, there are few slower songs like Slow, Love, Slow; Meadows of Heaven; Eva, all feature their middle singer Anette.
While I agree that you should absolutely check out the Tarja and Annette eras of Nightwish, I will admit I am heavily biased towards Floor.
Thanks for adding to the info. We appreciate it.
Kai was actually Jukkas drum tech on the previous tour..... keeping busy while his own band was in hiatus
If you ever hear the piper callin ya', it's Troy on the Uilleannn pipes.**
If you ever hear a cello, it's just might be Troy on his PRS with an Ebow. (Greatest Show on Earth at Wembley)
Troy is kinda like that vinegar-based BBQ sauce that's somewhere on the picnic table..
At my age, I'm lucky to remember pants in a rain storm (western Oregon here... we still have rainstorms, lol.)
** if you ever want to talk old school trad-Irish music, I can do that, mostly due to my years playin Bothy Band covers, and getting the rare chance to play with Kevin and Michael themselves.
LOL...great comment, very entertaining, as well as insightful.
Mrs. Coach might very much enjoy and appreciate watching some of the “home videos” that Floor posted to her YT channel during the pandemic.
To me they were a unique look into a “Rock Valkyrie's" amazingly grounded personal life.
Thanks for the tip!
Hello Mr and Mrs Coach. Wembley show is as perfect as Wracken. I can promise to you. All of them are sooooooooo good. Keep going. New subscriber here. Nice to see you. Greeting from Greece.
Thank you. Good to have you aboard.
Great as always… try next to the opener of Wembley: Shudder before the beautiful (you both will love it) ‼️👍🏆
Another artist to look at is Eva Cassidy. Unfortunately she died in 1996 at age 33 of melanoma, before she could experience her success. Some songs you will appreciate are; Blues in the Night, Autumn Leaves, Songbird,
Sorry to hear that. Thanks for the recommendation.
Very cool about Groot (and Jack Sparrow). Your wife sounds like a very wise person.
@@CoachCastTV Oh, she is!
