Imagine being Latino that agrees with Mr Peterson and hearing that it's "angry white male" think. It's more offensive than you think to hear logic and reason be called what it so clearly is not and to mislable all of us who agree with logic and reason as racist when one is clearly not.
This is how a true journalist does an interview. When he plays antagonist it is for the purpose of understanding the person, not to push an agenda. Thank you John for your developed talent and years of hard work!
I am for most of what Jordan Peterson preaches but the interviewer is playing devil's advocate too obviously in his favor that just takes the joy out of watching this video. 6.5/10
An interesting contrast between this interview and the "interview" he has in that clip. The "interviewer" in that clip was about making herself the subject of the discussion, rather than having the interviewee the subject. Nice contrast.
agreed.i used to judge/underestimate Stossel, until one day i heard him as a guest on Dennis Millers old radio show, Miller can be a dick at times& snob, tried to show his superior Intellect, making too clever references to keep someone on their toes, etc.,& Stossel would just let one go over his head &say,",sorry, i didn't catch the reference, uh... ," or something & let the dead air hang, very refreshing & it made Miller have to change tac.
Yes!! I've never thought of it like that, but that's exactly what he is for so many lost and lonely men. He encourages them to be dissatisfied with who they are so they can become their best.
When I was a kid, my dad would get us a candy bar to split. When my mom got a candy bar, she had a rule that whoever broke the candy bar in half, the other kid got to pick their side. There is difference, on average, with the way mothers and fathers teach their kids. With the rise of single mothers, micromanagement and collectivism dominate childhood, so people are looking for the self-reliance and independence point of view they would have gotten from a two parent household. This is the actual reason Peterson is popular with men, not because RUclips is mostly men. This is also the reason SJWs are mostly women, genetics.

Not loved by all. There's no shortage of vitriol and hatred for Peterson from the left. I can't think of anyone who has so shamelessly been slandered as Peterson, without an ounce of substance to their accusations. When I see people call him racist or misogynist I always ask for an example. He literally has hundreds of hours of his unedited lectures on RUclips, from before he was famous. Not to mention all the speaking appearances and interviews he's done since then. And they can never produce a single example. Hating on a person who spends most of their time telling young people to take responsibility for their lives and tell the truth, is despicable.
I lost my beautiful wife and best friend October 1 , 21. I've been listening to Dr Peterson for years and I credit his biblical series, primarily his stories of Noah and the arc for my survival. My flood came and tried to sweep my world away and I was saved by that arc of doctors, nurses, friends,.... my children. Dr Peterson, if you ever read this, please know you helped me realize my arc was there! Selfish, ignorant people despise you and your message because looking in the mirror scares them. You helped me stand up straight! You gave me the ultimate gift of strength that allowed me to hold the hand of my best friend as she crossed that divide to our next life. You know you're in a fallen society when a person who tells people to make their bed, do their chores, and approach life with some degree of intentionality, accountability, and responsibility is vilified-all because people hate being told the truth.
You know your society is declining just by having a man appearing as a hero just for telling grown-up men to do that; would it have been necessary decades ago?
@channell11 Talk about dangerous!! If we start making our beds, do our chores, and live life with intentionality, accountability, and responsibility, that is in opposition to the left.
I firmly believe that Jordan will go down in history as one of the greatest intellectuals of the 21st century, which is also sad because much of what he is saying used to be commonly held truths about people and society
Gonna be pretty funny to watch the children of the haters (the few ones who are able to even start a family) enjoying JP against their parent's will. He's definitely one of those people who are hated (by the morons) but only later will people appreciate the things he's said and see him for what he truly is, possibly long after he's gone.
When I look at great human beings that contributed greatly into a prosperous human society. Ghandi, Martin Luther King and even prophets like Jesus and Mohammed. They all got tremendous amount of "hate" and some eventually got killed. But their wisdom and bravery are still with us to this day. I'm not comparing the persons and achievements. But rather the fact all of them spoke up, and a lot of people wanted to silence them. The truth hurts, and it seems a lot of humans aren't ready to face it.
I shunned responsibility most of my life and left me empty and lonely and yearning for meaning . ,it took me til my late 30's to snap out of it. HalleluYAH !
Wow, your dad's assessment really spoke to me. I think it is dead on. I have been contemplating life and purpose for about ten years, in my forties now, and I think your dad's take is so simple, yet so true. Thank you.
There is so much truth in that statement it is tangible. Having learned that first hand I wish I wouldn't have wasted my earlier years. And I'm only in my mid Twenties! Everyone always asks you what you want to do or what you want to be not realizing that it's a pointless and confusing question to ask a child, be they in elementary or high school. Kids are already searching for so much of themselves, how are they supposed to give a decently true answer to those questions? They don't know enough about the world or themselves yet! The answer is to be a good person, be humble, help others, improve yourself, and take advantage of your sharpest skills to make a living.
I am a woman and consider myself to be a conscious feminist and I LOVE Peterson. I am not against men, I am against weak or abusive men. What we need now more than ever are GOOD men, men like Peterson who have the capacity and courage to speak the truth and stand on principle in the line of fire.
In what delusional universe are you guy living? People who have power use it. Martial arts are designed for defense, there is the whole philosophy behind it. Now you show me a powerful politician or businessman who has power and is not using it for his/her advantage.
He’s right. That’s the concern of the “left”. Being responsible, ethical, moral, strong, controlled & dependable makes a man admirable. I admire that. I want to be like that.
If that's your take away from this, then you weren't listening. He also said that's what the left is *supposed* to be - meaning it is not. Peterson states that things like compassion aren't the only virtue, & relying solely on those things makes a person weak.
Overall he is a positive influence, but he is wrong about somethings and afraid of others. He clearly demonstrated that he does not really know what compassion is in this interview for example. Someone asked him about the influence of Jews and the Israeli lobby and he freaked out and ran away from the question. He said someone who shoots up a school is weak, and that is too easy an answer. It is an answer designed to please, and to make a more complex issue overly simplistic. It reminds me of when leftards say "rape isn't about sex, it's about power." A horse$hit easy answer, designed to please low IQ people so they can say "Ah! That's why."
Mr. Stossel is one of those few good legacy media journalists. I would put him up with Barbara Walters, though I may be remembering the latter through rose-colored glasses. Stossel doesn’t seem like he has an agenda in his interviewing style. He asks “why?” which is what journalists are *SUPPOSED* to do instead of _“sO wHAt YoU’Re saYInG iS…”_

Look at the way he's calm and listening when JP speaks, being polite and never cutting him before he makes his points. He's actually giving JP a chance to dispel some of the accusations made against him because when he goes to interviews with people like Cathy Newman they always cut him off and never allow him to finish his points after asking stupid questions and trying to set traps for the man.

I have passed over many videos featuring. Jordan Peterson because I prejudged him as something he's not. I watched this one because I am subscribed to John Stossel. What I experienced here is a man who makes a lot of sense. We need more people like him and more people to be open minded. 😗
Let's just make sure we're not so opened minded that our brains fall out. That seems to be a common occurrence here in America anymore. Hey if it Feels good, do it. I have to admit Jordan Peterson hits the nail on the head as far as I can tell, but it's like this interviewer is exposing to everyone watching he (the interviewer) is "open minded". Being open minded by terms of Liberalism is anything goes and accept everything as long as it gratifies sexual urges, greed, lust, anger, rage, and violent vengeance towards anyone who disagrees with the Liberal party, or just repeat themselves over and over again over another's voice like a crazy person or just raise one's voice over another, or just make claims of bigotry, sexism and racism. They seem to think by making these claims towards someone who disagrees with them is an automatic victory after the accusation is made, but rather to someone who's brain hasn't fallen from their skulls from being "open minded" we can see the psychosis of the person behaving like a young teenager or again.... a crazy person. I've come to notice teenagers and crazy people seem to follow the same pattern which is interesting to say the least. To me a crazy person is one who is immature and never grows up, or of course has a mental problem. Of course I could go on all day about puberty, hormones and life changes in the body and mind during that process but it seems some never leave that stage of development and are cursed to be psychotic and narcissistic. And yes I am saying that teenagers fit that bill. We all go through that stage in life, however some just remain in that stage stagnant and lost in a stage of life that's not meant to remain.
To listen is to learn, To hear is an auditory experience. Here Jordan Peterson elevates the hearing experience into teacher and educator. We are the lucky ones who are raised into this humble genius strata.
Welcome Conny. I got to meet JP before he published 12 rules for life and went on his first book tour. The experience was hard to put into words, I was humbled and beyond impressed with his humility, his passion, his empathy and his desire to help relieve the suffering of the vulnerable and the dispossessed. He appears to be a genuinely beautiful soul who cares so much for humanity, it causes him pain and emotional distress. A truly brave man indeed and the hero we need right now.
Unfortunately there is a possibility that he won't. Not when you have this caliber of people shouting so angrily that he is wrong. It will always be construed until accountability is held for those sewing this disparity onto the world
no he is brave... and honest...he dares to do something that many academics don't... criticize other academics as fraud.. it is brave because it weakens the source of his own hierarchy and money ! many academics KNOW that humanity, gender studies and so on are a scientific fraud...but as they don't want people to know how THEIR money is spent..they don't say anything to the point the are eaten alive by radical.. you don't need to be that clever!!! but honest and brave///

Peterson is one influential philosopher known and living. People need to stop hating and start truly listening to his talks. We all can be better people.
Yes, truly listen to him. The go-to argument of virtually every leftist position is to project a strawman characterization onto their opponent and then argue against that.
It's a shame more like Dr. Peterson aren't out there saying, "to hell with what is said about me on an internet message board, here's the truth". We need more men and women to stand up and fight.
I started listening to his book, "Maps of Meaning" narrated by him and IMHO he has been in training for this time in history for most of his life. As a very young man he was fascinated with Socialism, but early on recognized how performative the "compassion" was. Instead of jumping on any band wagons for a right way to think he seemed to have challenged himself with learning how to use his mind to actually study and think things through. I can attest that in my time in Academia just 4 years ago at age 56, 80% of the instruction is geared toward Social Justice and "What" to think rather than how to engage the mind with the material. I recieved a disciplinary action for class disruption by sending a private email to the instructor questioning her personal bias in lectures..... in an Argumentation and Debate course. As I found myself immersed in so much crazy I countered the gas lighting primarily with Professor Peterson and James Lindsay. Those who were specifically able to think through and speak about how we got here and where here is.
@@ImHandlingIt The video of Brets experience and the unfolding of the Diversity Inclusion Equity canoe expedition Evergreen was lost on, really validated my own sense of concern for the indoctrination level of Academia. I’ve only listened to Jordan Peterson for the first time in the last month, I was expecting to hear lots of inflammatory things based on my perception of him from reading other material. Much to my surprise everything I’ve heard so far is just common sense.
@Dizzy Gear It's amazing that people call it "common sense," because it's so rare (at least in our epoch of history), but thanks to Jordan Peterson people's knowledge of it is growing.
@@j.jasonwentworth723 I'm trying to understand how to formulate what you guys are saying myself. I suspect JP is in the process of articulating what we all know in our hearts as true. The trouble is that truth hurts and we all look to different ideologies to see if we can change the reality for the better. I see that as a good thing overall because it's a worthy goal to make life better. It's extremely difficult though and in the short term a lot of those ideas that seem good have terrible consequences over time. What I think Jordan is doing is bringing the conversation to a more respectable level. To the people who are trying to rationalize ill conceived solutions Peterson is a huge threat. Realistically if you've spent your lifetime trying to eliminate what you see as inequality in the pay gap for instance you're not going to like expanding your empathy to those you think are the enemy. I have no doubt sexism plays a role but as Peterson suggests there's a line the left crosses that goes too far. He's drawn it at "equality of outcome" and makes a very good case for why that is. I think the bigger problem might be that "equality of opportunity" can get very close to looking like it's pushing towards the equality of outcome ideal. As soon as we start thinking in terms of groups it then corrupts to the core. I don't know how to escape the rot other than to follow the idea of thinking in terms of individual sovereignty and value the careful discipline of speaking the truth to the best of my ability.
Exactly! It's quite shocking. I have heard Jordan say something like this before (and I am slightly paraphrasing) but "There is nothing more dangerous than a person who puts their life together." Hence the "clean your room." And when you start to put your life together (see his talk with Curator of the Toronto Art Museum on the "Psychology of Creativity.") you begin to see why beauty is shocking, because it illuminates all the things that are ugly in ourselves and highlights our own insecurities. And sometimes that insecurity is a reminder of something we need to work on. For me, after listening to his talks, I knew I needed to get sober. Almost 2 years sober now. Take care, Dan!
I'm curious where on the internet to go to find these inflammatory things. I'd like to have a discussion with the marxist feminist types. Serious inquiry, I'm not being a troll, I think it's important to have these discussions.
John Stossel does such an amazing job playing devil's advocate. He knows all the right questions to ask and how to press them. Doesn't ask softball questions, but isn't hyper aggressive about them either. Asks the question, hears the response, presents the argument, hears the response, moves on. Pipe dream to wish all journalists were like this.

It's impossible to underestimate the depths people can sink to when they are 100% self-righteous and 0% self-aware. I can easily imagine those protesters bashing the stained glass windows of a church and shouting to burn it down, posting the video online, and thinking with total certainty that everyone will see them as heroes.
Yeah I noticed that about him. It's not necessarily his point of view it's the critical rebuttals people object with and peterson clearly and calmly articulates himself.

Similar to the statement on violence. It's one thing to cry because you are weak, it's quite another to take on more responsibility and not hide that aspect of your character because it's a perfectly rational response to your depth of understanding and sadness regarding a topic.

Because it pushes up upon Marxist nonsense that many of us have been increasingly and uncritically spoonfed by public education, media and entertainment for two generations. Cognitive dissonance is the negative reaction one can have when they come in contact with facts and arguments which challenge those deeply held beliefs. It makes people double down or seek to reinforce their beliefs-even those held for poor reasons.

The wars we aged are on the Conservative/Right side of the USA house, they have always been the pro-military side. Dr. P NEVER talks about the bad of that, the effect war has on Men. He isn't up to pushing Peterson, not even starting to be there. And interviewer just usually makes agreeable noises, few have the ability to be more, or are allowed to do more. Peterson's nihilistic optimism and Stossel's genuine journalistic integrity reignites a dying hope in humanity for me, honestly. This interview in particular is so damn powerful
Ahem. "Nihilistic optimism?" Nihilism: the rejection of all religious and moral principles, in the belief that life is meaningless. Does that sound like optimism? Does that sound like Peterson? Did a spell checker get you somehow? Heh heh. I have always wondered why there are not more solipsists.
@@puppetsock Nihilism is not the one sentence google definition of it. It is an umbrella term for many philosophies, which take entire books to flesh out. One of those is existential nihilism, which is what most people refer to when talking about nihilism outside of a philosophy classroom. Existential nihilism is the belief that life is inherently meaningless (not necessarily that there are no moral principles), which Peterson in this interview all but confirms is his view. That is why he spends so much time talking about how to give our lives meaning, the inference there is they don't have meaning to start with. Optimistic, meaning he doesn't think that being meaningless is necessarily bad. Which is what he argues. So, what's the issue?
Did you and I watch an entirely different video just now? "Stossel's genuine journalistic integrity"? Is Stossel an example of what a college educated Journalist is supposed to be? Our culture and our society is in a great deal of trouble if that is true.
Not to take anything away from Dr. Peterson, but could we take a moment to appreciate what a national treasure John Stossel is? This is a masterclass in how to conduct an interview. He's neither sycophantic nor needlessly confrontational; he merely creates a space to bring out the person he's interviewing. Well done.

@@mhtyler Heartily agreed. Another reason why John Stossel does that (asks questions from the point of view of those who disagree with the person he's interviewing [not only Jordan Peterson] is that it introduces the person, and his or her opinions and positions, to people who may know nothing, or little, about the person being interviewed), while simultaneously doing the same for the interviewee's detractors (as regards why they disagree so strongly with the interviewee). And it takes great character to die for something you believe in, because nobody wants to die.

Not just to his talks. People need to just listen to each other instead of constantly looking for their flaws or an argument to "catch" them out on
Yes, truly listen to him. The go-to argument of virtually every leftist position is to project a strawman characterization onto their opponent and then argue against that.
Most of the left is so indoctrinated, even since birth - that they are permanently trapped in this victim mentality..\
Being better people is racisms.
Really smart dude
Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying also top that list.

This is how interviews should go. Challenge the interviewee without making them respond defensively. When the interviewee is speaking, let them speak. Then when they are finished, ask questions that help your audience understand, or help the interviewee clarify their point.
I never felt like a political agenda or ideology was being pushed by Stossel. Now, I got that feeling from Peterson, but he is there to express his views. I never felt like Peterson was vilified or artificially built up as a god. The process was humanizing and kind.
I wish more journalists were at Stossel's level.
I wish many journalists had morals and we're at at 15 year olds level. Sadly that doesn't seem be the case

My operations manager mentioned Jordan Peterson a handful of times, and I started to wonder what he was all about. Two years later, I feel I've learned so much and I feel I have a real "hero" in my life. I've taken steps to improve myself and pursue my own true happiness. I've hardened myself mentally to deal with the craziness and brutality of life. I've opened my eyes to what society really is. Thank you Jordan Peterson!
And can you believe there are people that actually want to cancel this man?
I also use the word 'hero' when I think of JP
Have you thanked your (former) operations manager?

I’m an older woman with a college education and loads of job/work experience. I just wanted to add I love Jordan Peterson! He is a voice of reason and a light house for many confused men who would otherwise break in the shores or drown in the waves of despair.
My almost 40 yr old son read the 12 Rules and found great wisdom, plus the encouragement he didn’t get from his own father, making him capable of being a better man.
Ahh, a smart wise woman! Too bad they all didn’t have that wisdom.
I’m curious, as a woman fan of JP, do you discuss him w your friends? I’m about your age, & am having a particularly difficult time w friends & family, admittedly mostly women, 🤷🏼♀️, who think he’s nothing more than a bully! 🤷🏼♀️ I don’t get it! I just don’t get it! His kind of advice has been lost in the modern world . Pure common sense !
I have never once watched John Stossel interviews, but I have developed large respect for him in the span of just 30 minutes. THIS is how to do your job, journalists. Ask the questions with the correct manner, if the questions are offensive, deliver it with offense; if it is an irrelevant or even stupid question, deliver it as if you are stupid. Also, never interrupt the interviewee if it is not needed. Love you too Dr. Peterson.
Stossel is like Columbo. I’d be surprised if Stossel did not grow up on Columbo.
He is a hero to many. Why? Honesty and forthrightness. He probably has more integrity than any other journalist I have ever read or watched. I have seen and read him off and on for decades. He is also very humble. I saw him briefly at an event and he was seemingly very embarrassed by any cheers or attention he received personally.
well look up when he tried to "prove" wrestling was fake lol.... dude pulled some straight up bitch shit on Dr Death David Schultz, as much as i may agree with him
Stossel has been outstanding for many years at asking questions that play devil's advocate to the other side without being outright straw man arguments. Probably ten years ago, I watched his special on the wastefulness of government licenses and certifications. I found it very interesting, but I never thought I'd agree with such rage in the future when my wife has to pay thousands of dollars every year to the FDA to renew certification for her product. They're doing absolutely nothing to justify such a cost, and yet you have no choice but to pay it.
@@seanwickham8905 "They're doing absolutely nothing to justify such a cost, and yet you have no choice but to pay it."
That's the little guy subsidizing the big guys. It isn't pay for services, like it is with private transactions. It is simply "revenue". I got into a bit of a tiff about my license for my business, showing the city that they weren't doing ANYTHING at all for the license, just extracting money from me, whether my business earns any or not. Their response? "Yes, that's what they are for. Revenue."
If only we all had it so easy. Even thieves have to risk their own wellbeing to take my stuff. Most government employees risk nothing and offer nothing, they just consume.
Pure genius... he sees what should be obvious to everyone, and lays it out there brilliantly. This country needs about 350 million more people like him.

If they had harder lives and less spare time to 'find themselves endlessly' they wouldn't have a need for social justice. Life is far too easy for people these days...
I told my daughter as she went off to college that when things get tough (and they will) to remember this one rule - no one owes you a thing. Take responsibility and work through whatever stands in your way. So far, so good..
Let's see, kiddo. You sent your daughter off to a communist indoctrination center with nothing more than a Boomer-tier platitude that you can find on a fortune cookie. That little one-liner will be in combat with hundreds of hours per year for 4 years. I wonder which will win.
You spend your spare time on RUclips while the government raises your kid, and you're just crossing your fingers hoping for the best outcome.

Is there a test for the greatest mind of our time or is it just a compliment? I cannot tell when someone gushes with such praise do they see something or feel something I am missing. Mr Peterson has a quick mind at evaluating questions and his replies are so weighty that it would take most people a month to prepare the same reply but there, I think, many who can compete with his strengths but I am not one of those who could do so. The thing I see in him is the ability to be objective and he is not a attack dog but only raise his voice an octave for enforcing his point if he disagrees with someone with a different view of the situation being discussed.
Peterson helped me accept depression and insecurity, now I'm trying to grow up and build something regardless of the social dramas of today.
You accepted depression? Holy shit the psyop is working. You're not supposed to accept it, you're meant to fight it and beat it. Accepting it is allowing it to fester and grow.

I would suggest listening to the whole interview carefully and slowly, then logically deconstructing what he says in a letter. I'm sure he'll read it if it comes to his attention.
