    This is so important. I went and got my degree and some of my Masters thinking I couldn’t ask my single dad to help me
    Live in NYC and go to fashion school. He’s a medical doctor. But still the expenses seemed so high that I couldn’t handle asking him or going into debt with student loans. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE more videos on how fashion students pay for their apartments, cost of living, classes, and the best ways to go about it. Also maybe some content about GOING BACK to fashion school or art school when you’re 30. It sounds super old but sometimes it takes that long to realize what truly makes you happy. You try a degree and job and realize the lack of passion means it’s not sustainable because you’re miserable. So you realize you always wanted to work in fashion or art and you struggle with the idea of going back. I’d love if you found designers or students who are older and how they made the jump back into fashion or art school. It’s hard to justify when I graduated in a recession twice and were
    Upon one again!
    I love your content! And if your young truly
    Follow your bliss. But have a good plan. Don’t let fear make you choose an alternative path you’ll end up scrapping at
    30 because you missed your chance to follow your passions!!!!

      Alexandra I'm younger but same position as you - however I didn't graduate. I'm scared I might go back to my degree at this point. If you find anything that could help please share.
      And be comforted in the hardships bc i believe getting through that only proves that you have what it takes(mentally) to be in this "risky" industry

      @@TheyFoundTumi nannying. Nannying jobs esp in New York pay 70-140 grand a year. It’s insane. Any city and they do live in too so that’s no rent. Now you have no utilities no rent and a huge income for school and life. Start small and babysit then nanny for cheaper and then move your way up. There are amazing agencies. If you want the names of any let me know.
      Also taking the train into the city from CT or doing a room share.
      My biggest issue is that my rescue dog isn’t friendly so I can’t live with anyone or go on vacation or do anything unless one of two people watch her.
      It’s insane a dog is keeping me from literally doing so much.
      All I will say is I’ve seen people get new careers and they’ve at age 50. If you want it bad enough and you shine it will work.
      Also look into states that pay for tuition. New York residents get tuition paid. Rhode Island too. RISD is in Rhode Island.
      Hope that helps. I’m still in limbo but moving forward with the nanny-move-set up and go back to school part. I just realized comparing myself to other people was making me freak out. I just do something everyday to make me happy and proud.
      All forward motion counts. Life is not measured by our career successes but each day so live each day and try to find a niche and explore it on social media too.
      Hope this helps.

      @@pibblelove9549 I wish I worked from a young age and moved up in the company. I have friends who just worked and are higher up in the ranks then people who went to great schools. Or get a degree that has a guaranteed job and salary so that LATER in life I could do whatever I wanted. 33 sounds old when you’re young but you turn 33 and people who are 53 said “I’m not even old. I’m changing careers. Life is so short but so long” and I realized any change is good change at any time. While life flies by (and now we know why it seems like that-we absorb more from 1-8 than any other years so life is literally bigger and more processing.
      If my parents were VERY VERY well off and I had two working parents I would either ask for my college money and buy property during a recession and make it a rental or have them pay for school if I had a solid plan.
      My highschool teacher told us “ask for money and start a business or invest in real estate and live somewhere and rent out all the rooms in the house” and I thought it was so stupid because education is super important in my house and culture.
      And it still is. I value it so much. But more my electives English and things I use daily. So it’s hard to say skip college or don’t go back because it is an investment but if there is a chance it effects your parents retirement or the chance of owning rentals then I change my mind.

    Let’s dive deeper in ways fashion students support themselves. Most are in expensive cities. That’s the real issue. Cost of living in NYC/LA/Boston is not cheap. The only other option is RISD (insanely hard to get into) or some art schools.

    • @CynicalDuchess
      @CynicalDuchess  Год назад +16

      I went to film school in Boston, these are some ways I supported myself: I boarded with a host family who took me in for minimal rent. That way I cut costs on room and board at school. I got a job as well to pay for other expenses, and I used public transportation. With that it actually became very doable

    • @Alexandra_Wolf
      @Alexandra_Wolf Год назад

      @@CynicalDuchess I love this! I lived in Brookline for a few years as well and it’s such a great city for students. (Right now rent is so bad and housing costs!!!) Boston is def one of the more doable cities in my opinion. (I always have a large dog so that kind of puts a damper on a lot of scenarios).
      I was looking into the design school Kelly Wearstler went to in Boston but it seems more specific for designing furniture as opposed to interior design.
      I love all your content. Have a good Shabbat!

      schools usually have resources to help with student housing, so while it might not be free, it could be significantly cheaper. pick up a couple of side gigs here and there and you could swing it

    Hey, duchess love your vids!🥰
    Just wanted to clarify that it's not entirely accurate to say it's free to go to fit. Depending on your income, your financial aid package might cover tuition, supplies and travel, but not everyone who lives in New York goes for free. Same goes for all SUNY and CUNY schools. Chag sameach 😘

      probably he is on a scholarship. I'm broke too but i was planning to go for free because my country (saudi arabia) has a programs that basically cover all the tuitions, living expenses, and tickets for abroad schools, but it is only for citizen.
      you can find other institutions that might give you a scholarship to go for free, some schools offer such a scholarship to their students, I think the major problem is living expenses, even for me because i was planning to go to nyc and as I heard from other saudis who took this program in usa, they said that the government only pay them 1800$ a month for the living expenses, which made me very hesitant to go to nyc after I found out
      that the rent of a studio is at least 2000$ 🙂💔
