    I would love to see him compare the LS-6 with a mythical LS-7 crate engine.

      Nothing mythical about a crate LS-7, There's a dyno in an old rod mag of one running 580hp stock w/headers. My friend had one in a 69 vette, 4sp with 410s, & a 850 Holley than ran 11.87 @ 127 mph

    How much of an issue is it to fit the factory intake manifold after decking the block and heads to factory spec? This question keeps me up at night

    To me, it seems that most engine dyno videos are using SAE Gross Horsepower (Headers, Tuned/Jetted for performance, Spark Advance/Curved for Performance, Open air cleaner, no belt driven accessories). Which to my understanding (maybe I'm wrong) is how the manufacturers rated their engines before 1972. After 1972, regulators forced manufacturers to use SAE NET Horsepower ratings (Pretty much how they were run in the vehicle, from the factory, Full exhaust including factory exhaust manifolds, the tune and spark timing/curve it will have from the factory to meet emission standards, full accessories). Can someone confirm or deny?

      you are correct. the earlier engine dyno's were done without any accessories. one thing also is that they sometimes underrated the HP numbers..there are various theories about why.

      I believe that you are correct. People doing dyno tests would likely be hard pressed to replicate in the vehicle conditions required for net results. Most all old school horsepower enthusiests speak in terms of gross horsepower numbers in reference to the old carbureted engines, myself included. Yes the modern engines are highly developed and usually more powerful than the old stuff.

    I think alot of people dont understand what u mean when u say "to blueprint a engine". I think they also dont understand alot of engine from all the manufacturers did not have the actual compression in real life as they left the factory then as what they were advertised at & i dont think they understand why that would be.

      Thanks for pointing out that factory advertised compression ratios are often over rated. Iv argued with people on UT who just refuse to believe it.

      @danielslocum7169 most people have been hearing that all these muscle car engines were under rated! They believe they all are way stronger than the advertised number. Wich some are! But it's backwards to then tell them they don't really have as much compression as claimed. Some folks just have a hard time digesting that.
