      I know people love the idea of tiny homes, but the best and most affordable option to build, to heat, and to maintain is an apartment or condo building. That's the type of housing we really need.

    mayor could have a staff member call every owner of an empty old building that looks like it could be fixed a little and be a good shelter and start seeing if some of these owners who own a lot of property want to donate some of these buildings and the land to be turned into shelters. get some grants and volunteers and builders and go in there and make the buildings functional. it could be done all over the country. work out a deal with the city water and the electric companies for donated or super cheap (at cost) water and lights. put in those electric heaters that are shaped like long strips and put them along the baseboards. they are safe and no fire that way. americans have to start helping each cause it is will probably get worse before it gets better.

      A lot of people up here use propane heaters and camp stoves to heat their tents, volunteers give out the fuel sometimes, this results in frequent fires. People also place hot rocks from a fire under their bedroll and boiled water bottles in their sleeping bags. Also, several layers of clothes keep a lot of body warmth in. They ride around the lightrail and buses for the heat too.

    The problem is we live in a society that does not care for the people with financial struggles. Many jobs pay insanely low. Nobody could live out of that exploitation. Housing is insanely high. Society and government need to understand there are people with mental illnesses that have no way to work steadily. Yes, these people are an issue, yet the issue is not them, the issue is the diversion of funds to useless projects instead of helping real people. Ashen faces on TV are just hypocrisy. Why is it so difficult to understand there is a low % of people who truly need help and society must help them to live a decent life.

    I hear there are many vacant apartments across the city. Overpriced boxes all over the place! So ah, no enabling their addictions. They need to clean up, they need treatment, abstinence, not needles. Let’s be real about addiction drugs/alcohol. If all those homeless who are addicted got pulled off the streets and into treatment, the amount of homeless would fall dramatically. And I’m sorry, but addicts/alcoholics commit crimes. Their minds are not right when addicted and they need to pay for those chemicals. Not good. I get they are human but I know addiction and it’s bad for everyone not just addicts/alcoholics. Let’s not get too codependent too enabling.

    The money made on the 2022 Superbowl could end world hunger. California made a cleanup sweep of all the homeless encampments between the airport and stadium. They are making a new pro ball stadium costing 5.5 billion dollars. That could end poverty and hunger in the entire US

    • @derp7738
      @derp7738 Год назад

      That is not even remotely close to enough to end poverty and hunger. In that same year the US spent more than $100B on the SNAP program, and that is just one program aimed at combatting poverty and hunger in one country. To think 5.5B can end hunger and poverty for USA or to think super bowl revenue could end world hunger is absurd.

    • @derp7738
      @derp7738 Год назад

      Views like that aren't going to help solve hunger or any other problems. Believing that the massive problems of hunger and poverty can be solved by such a tiny effort as making just one less shiny stadium trivializes the issue. The problems of hunger and poverty are massive and require a big change in priorities and/or an almost total restructure of our economy and society. Those amounts of money couldn't even fix the problems for a single day, much less be a permanent solution. Sure that $5.5B could have been spent on better things, but it is barely a drop in the bucket compared to the problems like poverty, hunger, and homelessness.

      My baby daddy dies from heroin OD this year leaving behind his 14 year old whom he never built a relationship with. Tragic and the worst part is it happened in a halfway house that the country forced him into even tho he was having the time of his life with his gf of seven years after being released from prison.
