  • My project to build my bone stock C6 Corvette Z06 into a car that can hang with a modern Porsche 911 GT3 on the street and the track has been running into problems at almost every turn. To get my enthusiasm turned up I went to visit a friend who has a 2007 Corvette Z06 that's been modified with Pfadt coilovers and sway bars, a Vengeance Racing Stage 4 build, and a few other mods. My friend also happens to own a 2019 Porsche 911 GT3 RS and the 2013 Ariel Atom supercharged I used to own. We work on ride height and corner balancing the Atom and then take "Code Blue" the built C6Z out for a test drive.

    Mention Vengeance Racing and you always get my attention. Top notch, professional, and # 1 in the industry for aftermarket HP for Corvettes/Camaros. They did my build in 2017 and my C5Z is still tight and right. I don't let anyone else touch my Vette, not even to put air in the tires.

    Hahahahaha, glad to see the Doc is happy with his Z06. You two zipping around was fun to watch. Really enjoying your videos too, you do a great job, clear, concise and fun to watch. Say Howdy to Rayan and tell him the "Gunsmith" with the old Atomic Orange Z06 enjoyed a peek at Code Blue. All the best with Goldie.

      @@JoshVanVeld I'm curious to see what you chose. I went with KW on my Audi, I'm not all that impressed with them. I used Motion for my Viper, they're awesome, but pricey. I have the QA1 coil overs on my SL-C, their nothing special. I still need to do my DD C6Z, so I'm looking forward to your feedback on whatever you pick.
      I'd be tempted to go with some aggressive Bilstein coil overs on the C6Z. I'd always liked every set I've ever had and they are generally reasonably priced.

    love the content. i loved hearing that you felt suh a big differencec in the suspension. My z06 has a fully buildt 600whp high compression engine, Essex apracing kit on all 4 corners, Uniballs, amt camber lock kit etc. pretty much everything is done, except for swaybars and coilovers and the car is a missile, but it let down by very soft/underdamped suspenion and just a "unstable" feel at high speeds, will be getting upgraded swaybars and coilovers i think :D

    • @JoshVanVeld
      @JoshVanVeld  Год назад

      Hell yeah! What made you decide to go monoball vs. delrin? Did you go with AMT for bushings? Sounds like the coilovers and sway bars will be the finishing touch on your build. Let me know what you decide to go with, I'm currently weighing options.

      @@JoshVanVeld previous owner did a lot of the expensive mods, i was sceptical about running uniballs, but they are fully streetable, i think he just got them because it seemed like the most badass/expensive option like most of the stuff he did. i drove this on the nurburgring with 600whp and stock suspension parts and 345/295 cup2 tires and it was truly terrifying to drive a car the goes like a porsche turbo, but with really soft suspension.
      I have been looking into either Bilstein MDS gt3 spec coilovers, Öhlins, or Gspeed Penske coilovers and will also be changing the swaybars to match. I feel the car could be a absolute weapon with good suspenion as the final touch.

Zero issues at Road A from a fade perspective in fact Essex will recommend you close brake ducting the rotors are so efficient with heat. I was wondering the same but with the blue Z also having larger sway bars might also play into how it rode. I've been looking into getting a set of LG Motorsports coil over suspension for when I seal the deal on a C6Z of my own.

    • @JoshVanVeld

      Once you start messing with your suspension, you'll spend so much track time adjusting things and there is very little to gain over the stock setup.

    Sounds like that blue car would have traction issues that would prevent it from lapping at the same pace as a 991 gt3, 2500rpm peak tq would get in the way, whatever you build not sure power needs to be part of the equation until everything else is sorted. brakes, suspension, chassis, and maybe more to lightwieght the car, once you get there it will likely still need more in terms of power to consistently do laps. So much work lol just get a gt3 instead or mod your turbo if its not gone 🤪

      I have an 06 Z06 virtually identical to the car Josh drove. Mine has 550rwhp and 500rwtq. Has Pfadt coilovers, Pfadt racing sway bars, Delrin bushes all round, Girodisc floating rotors and Carbotech pads. The car is 95% street driven (with road trips of up to 2,500 miles) with the occasional track day. When tracking I run a spare set of Z06 wheels with 295 / 345 Hoosier R7s and traction is not an issue. With the R7's up to temp the car has awesome traction. Yes on the street (Pilot Sport 4S's) there are some traction issues on some surfaces but I would not trade this for the experience of the ease of high gear acceleration that the high torque provides. Don't get me wrong, I love GT3 cars and Porsches in particular, but a 7,000+rpm 7 litre car is an absolute blast to drive road or track and the traction keeping you on your toes is part of that driver experience😎

    How was the suspension different with sway bars and coilovers? Can you go more in depth on that statement?

    • @JoshVanVeld
      @JoshVanVeld  Год назад

      I’d really need to drive them both back to back on the track to have a more technical description. The car had a feeling of hugging the road and the feedback through the wheel felt heavier and tighter. I suspect that under those conditions the stiffer sway bars were responsible for most of that sensation.

    • @luigui707
      @luigui707 Год назад

      @@JoshVanVeld that's what's I hear, that the sway bars by themselves make a huge difference, but mainly the front since I guess the rear is already real stiff. And I'm sure coilovers just puts the cherry on top
