They definitely look very alike. I actually used to think that Ellen page was the voice actress for Ellie. That's how much she reminds me of her.

***** When the very first trailer for TLOU played during the VGAs I turned to my friend and said that looks and sounds an awful lot like Ellen Page. Later we found out the character's name was Ellie and the similarities couldn't be ignored. I don't blame Naughty Dog for liking the actress enough to be inspired to use her for a character. Ellen is an amazingly talented actress and she's very cute too! Ashley Johnson did a great job bringing Ellie to life.
If you listened closely then you could hear the difference between Jodie and Ellie's voices. Ashley has a very distinct voice. I noticed that when I watched Blindspot. It's more nasal like. I don't hear that in Ellen's. The only thing I did notice was that Ellie does look like Jodie.
And the fact that they named her Ellie

Peťo D That is very wrong. The amount of improv, and how well it was done is something amazing and singles out this game, and not just anyone can do it. Naughty dog has said themselves that Ellie was going to be more shy and timid, but Ashly Johnson (Ellie’s voice actress) Took the character to a whole new level, and portrayed her as a badass character. It does matter who does it, how well the voices are done can decide how well the emotional connection works on a person playing, even helps you depict the character better, and adds so much more to the storyline.
Ellen never refused to play 'Ellie'. Naughty Dog just hired a cheap actress to rip her off an imitate her for a fraction of the price. Anything ND have said since is just BS. They stole Page's likeness to cash-in on the hype of her featuring in another game at the time.

Arliss Caruso Okay. I haven't played it yet. I actually never got a chance to play the game at all, since my PS3 burnt out, so I watched a compilation of the cutscenes and crucial gameplay moments. Kind of like I watched a 3 hour movie.
The Last of Us Remastered (for the PS4) comes with Left Behind as a free expansion. If you invest in the next gen console get the remastered!

She did feel happy that a video game uses her likeness, but she's already in the making of another video game, so it's not appreciated for Quantic Dream company.

I mean, considering how well received and outstanding the game turned out, I would take it as a huge compliment and even a sign of respect if developers for Naughty Dog did indeed use part of Ellen's facial structure for Ellie. More to do with image rights and potential earnings. No one will ever pay a famous actor a large sum now that they know you can hire a cheap, unknown actor to impersonate them and fool the world.

I think it's reasonable. Even if it was accidental, you have to admit they look similar. Having similar characters in games coming out close to each other isn't a good move.
Chloe Grace Moretz would absolutely be the perfect choice to play Ellie in The Last of Us movie! She has the physicality for it as well as the raw emotion. Her voice sounds a lot like Ellie as well :)

Ashley has high cheekbones, Ellie has more rounded cheeks like Ellen. Ashley has a pointy nose, Ellie has a more rounded nose like Ellen. Ashley has a round chin, Ellie has a more narrow chin like Ellen. Ashley and Ellie are almost opposites while Ellen and Ellie look like they could at least be related.

I'm gonna say that is it is kind of a rip off. I remember when everyone thought that Ellie was voiced by Ellen cause she looks and sounds so much like her. People had to correct them and tell them that the voice was of Ashley's. If you don't know it is not Ellen, you for sure think it is her. So yeah, total rip off. I do see a resemblance between Ellie and Ellen Page, but I also see a resemblance between Ellie and Ashley Johnson. I feel that Ellie was created to kind of model an Ellen Page-like character but Ashley did such a phenomenal job that when I see or hear Ellie, I think of Ashley... I don't think Ellen could come close to the performance that Ashley did.

For the original Ellie model? Yes they completely ripped Ellen Page off. But I love the fact that they did remodel her because when I first saw the 2011 VGA trailer for this game, I was like "This must be a father-daughter experience in a zombie world." I personally thought Ellie was actually around the age of 20. When I played the game for the first time (this was before I knew of this Ellen Page stuff) I was honestly shocked that she was only 14. For me though, I love the new model of Ellie because it shows off her personality and that she's not your average teenager. And I also like the fact that the new Ellie is a lot cuter.

you can still see the resemblance when you look at their noses, lips and eyes, even the eyebrows. Sure, they added alot more things to Ellie that Ellen Page doesn't have, green eyes, freckles, the cut on her eyebrow and so on.
Ellie doesn't look anything like her voice actor though (still, kudos to Ashley for bringing Ellie to life with her voice, she's done an amazing job), so I guess Naughty Dog only pulled that move to avoid an argument. :)

Ellen Page was right to disapprove (they even named the character Ellie!), but the whole thing would have been no big deal if Page hadn't actually been licensed in the other game. Interestingly, I thought the final product was cuter than Ellen Page. The voice actress also has a much cuter voice than Page.
Games developers usually try to come up with original character designs. Partly to avoid being sued, but also because they want to be original.
As for all other questions you may have on this matter, read my replies to everyone else who just doesn't get this.

2) Yes they can. There is legal precedent for this. They can't do it anymore than Old Spice can get a Brad Pitt look alike to star in one of their commercials, for example
3) Not sure what your point is. They clearly used her likeness without her permission and without paying her.
4) The fact that they did not break this story is irrelevant. You judge a person's credibility based on the tone of their voice? I don't even know what to say to that.

Not to mention Page has already made Inception which has found a bigger audience than The Last of Us and was universally critically acclaimed as well as an equally successful to TLOU video game. How you reach the conclusion that she somehow ripped off Naughty Dog by having her image stolen is beyond me. Insane is not a big enough word for that assertion.
6) We've already covered this. Her person and her name is her product. This is no different than some small soda company getting their hands on Pepsi's recipe and selling a clone. If they want her likeness to use in a game they must enter into a contract with her and compensate her. It's not a difficult thing to understand.
I get that you like The Last of Us. So do I. One of my favorite games ever made. But you are letting your fandom cloud your judgement. What they did to Ellen was unethical and legally actionable on her part. They will be very lucky if she doesn't sue them. It is clearly her face in the game.

The design of Ellie completely took over the publicity that Ellen Page would have received for her game, and so a lot of people thought they were getting the game with Ellen Page when in reality they were buying into a facade put on by Naughty Dog.
It's completely dishonest, and rude of them to create a character like Ellen Page, NAME HERE ELLIE, and then on top of that release the game at nearly the same time as Ellen's game.

ellie looks more like ellen page in the last of us than the actual motion sensor work done for beyond two souls. there are differences. and i think ellen page should really be flattered more than anything. am glad ellen page didnt try to sue. this shows good character. i mean even the names are close. ELLIE AND ELLEN. come on. the last of us is an amazing game. ellie is cute. and so is ellen page. and if you say they dont look alike. your lying and your not fooling anyone. we can obviously see with our own eyes. thats the great thing about sight. you cant contradict someones sight.
Of course she looks like her, since the first trailer from 2011 I thought that, I just feel dumb that I've never thought that the names were close hahaha good one. And for those who say Ellen Page is not cute, she's pretty cute IMO, like Ellie, well at least physically speaking, because Ellie's character is unique.

I think it was intended to make her look similar to Ellen Page, but as we know of movies and now video games is Ellen the perfect actress for complex characters that struggle in developing themselves and go through drastic changes of character. For example Juno,Inception,An American Crime and Beyond. So i personally dont think that they are blamable for using these similarities from Ellen to create emotion through Ellie (Oops name similarities too ;), nor can Ellen be blamed for having this distinct look that makes people cry if she wants them to... But id really like to see her in more lead roles in games or movies of sorts. My favorite actress since An American Crime and Juno ;)
