Great to know you Jill, i moved to NZ from KL exactly the same year you moved to Penang. I am back to KL for good 8 years later, you are right, things are expensive in NZ.
I have two very good friends from New Zealand, they used to come back every year in the past. One got Parkinson’s and it becomes harder for them to come back now. Especially since pandemic.
Hi Taylor, and Happy Sunday (your Monday) 😚 Thank you for introducing us to your friend Jill. It is encouraging to see single women moving abroad and building happy lives for themselves. Have a fabulous week!
With the exception of a few Americans, British, and Australians, I rarely know that there are New Zealanders that choose to live here also. I believe as we become older, we learn to tolerate being alone ourselves more. Thanks to IT, we no longer experience isolation. We can still communicate with the outside world for free, watch whatever we want to watch anytime we like, and do whatever we want alone and without interruption. Living abroad in those times may have seemed very unusual because it was difficult to obtain our native goods, but now still buy durian even if you reside in the UK. Therefore, if you're not too picky and easily adapted, there are already no boundaries in terms of the standard of living around the world. I sincerely hope that you and Jill will enjoy your time here for many more years to come.
OMG, a single vegan expat retiree in Penang?!? We definitely have to meet!🙂 I'm still trapped in the USA (near Taylor's old stomping ground of Washington, DC), but I'm planning to finally retire in January. Taylor, you need to get up from your comfort zone and travel around this region given the inexpensive Air Asia flights. One thing I can assure you is that you'll feel the warm hospitality immediately upon returning to KL after you visited those countries e.g. Hoi An Vietnam, India, Cambodia, Laos, Bali.
Yes i agree NZ is so expensive. That is why crime is high. Lots of ram raid in auckland. So many homeless people, some live in their vehicles. Auckland houses are so expensive but the quality is not good. Moldy, cold..😢 i wonder how young kiwis can afford to buy a house. But NZ hv beautiful nature and kiwis are nice n friendly.
Young Kiwis CANNOT afford to buy a house, definitely not in Auckland. Unless they have parents who can help. For a start, they need to save up 20% of the house price, which is over 200k since the average house in Auckland is over 1 million. Then they have to earn enough to qualify for that sort of mortgage, which is hard, especially at the current rates of above 6.5%. It is quite a sad state of affairs and some are moving to Australia which is also inflated, except maybe Perth and Adelaide - and at least Australia has relatively better wages than NZ.
Andrew, I just want to say that I've been a fan of your channel since you dropped your very first video. I love your content so much and you're cute hahah. Have a good day ahead Andrew ☺
I don't know what ministers in the Malaysian government earn but to expect foreigners to have at least RM1 Million savings (GBP200,000) together with liquid assets of RM1.5 Million (GBP300,000) to qualify for the MM2H programme is outrageous. It seems the "ordinary" retiree (like myself) can forget all about retiring to Malaysia.
Yes they changed the rules to that a couple of years ago. And since they have had very few applicants, because it is way too expensive. There is talk that it may change back to what it was when we applied, or close to it. Here’s hoping!!
Oh well. I think even before the change, Malaysia has always been for a little wee well off retirees. Those on meagre pensions prefer the rest of SEA: Ph, Thailand, Vietnam and even Cambodia.
Great interview. I need figures. Does Jill draw on a New Zealand or Canadian pension? Where does her income from? What are the costs? Rent , monthly costs etc? Can we please have an update! Thank you. Love from New Zealand 🇳🇿
I believe Jill lives on investments. She doesn’t draw a New Zealand pension. Look at my cost of living video for costs here. ruclips.net/video/ZTdFecLt_H4/видео.htmlsi=YV9KBQLNZSbxOBaa
I don’t draw a pension from NZ or Canada. I have to be living in Nz for 6 months before I can apply, so I am just living on interest on investments. It’s a small amount but I can live on it here and am better off doing that than living in NZ even on the full pension. My rent is about $700NZ per month (3 bedroom), electricity between $15 and $70 (if my 2 spare rooms have visitors), internet is about $50 per month, phone data about $10NZ per month and food is cheap.
@@jilltozer1918Sorry, two more questions: 1. How much do you pay for your apartment? Andrew showed us his KL apartment ($420) which I thought it would be a lot more. I have a smaller budget. 2. Enjoyed the interview. Don't hear many back stories of single women expats.
Exactly
There’s quite a few single women living here. It’s an easy and safe place for a single woman
But
NZ hv beautiful nature and kiwis are nice n friendly.
It used to be more affordable to live in NZ and it’s so hard for the young people these days.
Awesome! Thank you! ❤️
Maybe Miss Jill can provide some of her vegan recipes to give this fellow vegan an idea of what he might eat if he ends up in Malaysia.
Look into Sarawak MM2H - more affordable and only requires 1 month mandatory stay/year.
Oh well. I think even before the change, Malaysia has always been for a little wee well off retirees. Those on meagre pensions prefer the rest of SEA: Ph, Thailand, Vietnam and even Cambodia.
I left christchurch NZ the day before the earthquake struck in 2010.
😳
That was good timing. It was a strange time
Great interview.

@@jilltozer1918 thank you so much for the reply.! I’m inspired to do something similar .
@@andrewtaylor4558 thank you
You would have to ask Jill or look at more of my videos. 🤗
I absolutely love new Zealand, that place is like heaven on earth... but its expensive there...welcome to malaysia... but why malaysia not indonesia?
English so widely spoken 😊
Kiwi is also very beautiful. Except for earthquakes.
Yep
and very expensive
Jill is in luck, Penang is going to start LRT construction end of this year and one of the lines cover Tanjung Tokong-Gurney-Pykett(Burmah Road).
I’m looking forward to that!!
Hi Jill, what kind of visa did you get? And what is the yearly cost?
@@jilltozer1918Sorry, two more questions: 1. How much do you pay for your apartment? Andrew showed us his KL apartment ($420) which I thought it would be a lot more. I have a smaller budget. 2. You mentioned that there are great quality dental care there. Can you recommend a dentist? I will be visiting Penang in January. Thanks so much.
@@jilltozer1918I’ve never been to Vietnam at all. You mentioned that you liked Hoi An. What airport do you fly into and what kind of transport/transfer do you take to get to Hoi An?
The visa I have is called MM2H but they have recently changed the rules and upped the requirements to a ridiculous level. We are waiting hoping they reverse the changes as very few people are coming to retire now.
I hear they're gonna build the LRT in Penang.
Try Tango, the Penang Tango scene is growing.
Jill is a natural in front of the camera
