Any longtime PC users considering a MacBook with this new stuff?
Literally just did exactly that two days ago. Loving my m1 pro, even as a longtime pc guy
Too expensive for my use case. Battery life is something I am envious about but cant spend $1000 extra for that
@Dave2D you are so privileged i wish i could have a Macbook.😊
Windows and Android user my whole life. Just ordered one recently
Went with the 32gb ram, 32 GPU core. Will be replacing my 10 year old rig.
Dave's concise delivery is unmatched in the tech youtube community.
Agreed. Direct, no click bait and straight to the point.
It's why his channel does well. It's no bs, to the point, respective of your time, no gimmicks, and he just tells you what you need to know.
Thumbs down because RUclips stopped showing it
and i reward him by not watching at 2x and skipping
@@user-ct1lf3hf1v I can still see the dislikes, what are you talking about?
I cannot stress enough just how concise yet informative Dave is in conveying his thoughts. What will take other RUclipsrs perhaps 20 minutes to share, Dave does it in little less than half of it.
Like Dave said, it would be a waste of mindspace.
Thumbs down because RUclips stopped showing it
He is probably using m1 max to render/compile his thoughts :D
@@user-ct1lf3hf1v I can still see the dislikes, what are you talking about?
Tum logo ko paisa milta h kya chatne ka?
I‘m a Music/Media Student that recently got a job as a video Editor as well. Meaning I use a lot of Logic, Final Cut and Premiere Pro. In the beginning of 2021, I bought myself the base model of the MacBook Air, with 8GB of RAM and 512GB of Storage.
Literally any of the tasks life through at me it handled like a knife cutting butter. I edited 4K Videos before on a friends MacBook Pro (8GB of RAM, i7, 2019 Model) and I could not playback anything fluently ever. I always wanted to someday buy myself like the 4000$ Version of the 16 inch MacBook Pro to maybe handle Video Editing more smoothly. But this 1000$ machine literally changed everything. Editing is soo smooth, that I can’t believe it doesn’t even have a fan. I edited the other day for almost 10 hours straight, without charging ones and with it not even getting warm. My friends MacBook would have already felt like it’s exploding at that point.
When the M1 Max came out, the consumer in me, wanted to save up again to buy the biggest version one day. But quickly I realised, that at least by now, I don’t think I would even notice a big difference in the performance, which is pretty ridiculous to say about a machine that costs only a fourth of the price!
The M1 Air genuinely brings the power of multi thousand dollar editing workstations from a couple of years ago to an ultrabook and still manages to have better thermals and battery life.
This needs to be stickied everywhere
Exactly man, and some people continue to say such bullshit that M1 Air is not suitable for heavy tasks… lol
Dave delivers it again. I always watch from beginning to the end, because the presentation is always neat. data graphs, personal opinion, and customer consideration is all mixed into a great presentation.
respect for dave for promoting 'due dilligence'. we all should do our own research instead of letting our purchase decision taken by youtuber or news influence.
the last message is also gold, "there's no point in choosing the best time to buy something futureproof, if you need something, just buy it with your budget, and get your problem done. it will save a lot of headache".
I love the way he doesn't waste time. He's direct to the point. 🔥
That's why he's my favourite RUclipsr. He's the perfect RUclipsr imo.
Dave2D = Dave Too Direct.
This is better 🌟
@Brajesh First time?
I’m a RUclipsr myself and it’s jarring how he manages to pack so much valuable information into videos typically less than 10 minutes long. I can’t pick up on whether it’s the speech pattern or the quick transition between topics, I’m not sure but he is definitely a role model in the department of quality concise content creation.
"They're just tools. Buy the one you can afford and get stuff done" ......well someone had to say it. Thanks Dave!
Exactly, thats what everyone needs to do for everything. Have a fixed budget, and find the best spec for that budget.
@@TomNook. Not as easy as that because you need something fairly decent for that budget and research has to be done
@@aliciasam5239 it's as easy as that not really a lot of research is required especially today thus being said what he means is only buy what you need more than what you want
hence why calling them tools as they are not a fashion statement to show off with
actually the best advice there is
Dave I love how you look at the money aspect realistically, most youtuber's don't give a rats ass but you make the purchasing decision so much easier. Watching these videos is like therapy haha 🌚
Yeah he is really good.
I always love Dave's final advices - personally a person who sweats about future-proofing a lot because of limited budget but god damn he is right. That's so much mind space and we need the work to be done NOW. lol thanks Dave!
Who can do this better? A+ presentation
His videos are always so neat and clean, like you walk into a Saint Laurent Paris store.
Marques: *Allow me to introduce myself.*
@@m4z805 Lol I like Marques but he's more focused on making very mainstream content. Cool B-Roll and reads off a spec sheet.
Had to subscribe. Good stuff.

I love how consistent Dave is with his advice, if you're in need of a new device, just get it now. Of course if you're 2-4 weeks away from a new launch, then I think that's an okay time frame to wait, but if you're monthss away, it's not something to be stressing over. Fact is the tech industry is always evolving, you wait 3 months for the new product only to find out that a newer product is launching in 9 months.
We’re an unknown March to December 2022 away from the new pro iMac which is probably too long to wait
@@smallbizdigitalmedia it is. I can’t justify waiting almost half a year for something when a product that is less than a month old is on the market with the power I need.
I have Best Buy Total Tech Support which gives me 60 days to return something.
exactly
I waited more than a year for this thing. Don't regret it. But yeah, I'm definitely not waiting for the M2 either.
Best consumer advice, is no advice! I love it. This was the most honest, no BS video about a product. We gotta start holding consumers accountable for purchase decisions, and push them to stop mindlessly relying on RUclipsrs to tell them what model tech they “need.”
The problem is that companies completely disagree. Advertising and social media work to do nothing more than make people mindlessly buy products. It doesn't help that there's such a learning curve to buying a laptop good for your needs. The first time someone purchases a laptop they need to do a lot of research just to understand how much is a good of amount of gb much less on processors, prices, etc.
@@vullord666 That's consumerism. This way of adverstising has bothered me for so long, and I'm glad creators are now starting to pave the way for a more neutral way to objectively talk about tech and recommend it.
If you live by ''oh no, the next gen is coming in x months, maybe I should wait'' You're never gonna be fully satisfied. You don't NEED the latest and greatest to get most of the stuff done a normal person would do.
Great video.
The last minute of this video is so good and so true! Incredible. Choose your tech for today and that's it.
Yes ! That one was like made for someone like me 😅
Yep! I felt personally called out but this video came at an important, indecisive time for me lol
Oh my gosh. I’ve probably watched over 200 videos on these new MacBooks. This is by far the most cleanest, well organized, succinct but still comprehensive video on them. With all of the good insight Dave2D brings. Thank you.

Absolutely. Very impressive video.
Agreed!
Just like in Squid game. It takes to the 201st to decide.
Your explanations and knowledge is what I’ve been looking for. Thank you very much!
Having used Mac for 25+ years and going through two major transitions, I have to say this is the best buying guideline I have ever seen. Right to the point, sleek, and it's just perfect! Thank you!
Dave is one of those rare creators whose videos simply brighten up your day.
Also his outro music, very professional
Thanks Dave, I just brought a almost fully specced 16” MacBook Pro M1 max, and I don’t regret it (I’m super excited to finally get it) but there’s always that bit in the back of my head thinking “should I have waited for the m2”. But your comment at the end of your video, saying if you need something, pick it up, get your stuff done, which is what I shall be doing, that’s a great mentality.
M2 pro will be out q2 2022
Assuming nothing else goes wrong with supply chains.
@@wowitsruss Knowing Apple, they'll release the base M2 first, then M2 Pro by the end of the year.

I like Dave said you know what you need. If you need a staff which can meet your needs and can afford it, just buy it. We can't always waiting for better cuz there is always better after better.
Before watching this video, I was set on getting a 16” M1 Pro / 32GB. But, you said so many things in this video that made me take pause and reflect on what I really need. I’ll be going with a 16GB spec instead. I had an M1 Mac Mini and it was fine for what I do. No sense in spending extra money unnecessarily.
Thanks for this video, Dave. There was so much value in what you said about the MacBooks.
You earned yourself a new subscriber.
What a precise explanation.
You saved a lot of my time as mind was just juggling between various Mac models.
Thanks Dave.
"Buy the one you can afford, and get the stuff done!" wise words ngl.

Just curious why are the Premiere Pro benchmark results different in graphs 1:50 and 5:53 ? 🤔
M1 PRO 912 vs 1099
M1 MAX 1099 vs 1121

Dave is definitely the most honest RUclipsr out there. Just the clarity in thought in everything he says is enough for me to be a long-term fan.
I went with 16GB upgrade for my M1. Wanted to future-proof it, I'll keep it at least 5 years.
This!! This video is too good! Dave2D is the real GOAT of Tech RUclips!
You are the only tech RUclipsr that can squeeze this much practical information in a sub-10 minute video. Been subscribed since you had well under a 100k subs. Happy that your channel has grown so much. Happy 2022, Dave!
I'm loving the end statement. "They are tools and just pick them". We forget that most of the time and pay way too much time on picking.
You are doing great man
Finally some real info about music production with Vst, thank you Dave, you make my day
Man! Thanks a lot. There is something genuine and relaxing about this video, It's more than a tech/gadget video. It's a perspective.

Thank you!
As usual, rational and easy talking that leads directly to correct decisions. THANKS
I’ve never bought a macbook or even considered buying one… but I do watch nearly every video from Dave because his videos are genuinely interesting and enjoyable to watch
You are the only youtuber who gives practical advice/content. I was so confused about which configuration to pick up. This video has made that decision so much more clearer. Thankyou :)
Thank you for this guide, it really helped with breaking down some worries I had.
Hi Dave,
I have been watching your content for so many years now, and I wanted to say I have so much respect and admiration for you. Your content is always superb and unlike any other content on RUclips. I love that you’re so chill and laid back. I can see the time, love, and effort you pour into your work and I wanted to say I don't take it for granted. I wish you all the best and look forward to seeing more of your videos!
Dave, your infographics are so underrated. You won’t know but your Infographic work is a big inspo for my projects !
Totally understand the “sweaty palm” and optimising purchase window to get a future proof product. It’s result in some over paying on my part. It’s liberating when you buy something for a specific purpose (the one you use it for the most) and spend in that moment for the best “bang for buck”. Really fantastic insight Dave, appreciate your candour and opinion.
Thank you for all the hard work that's gone into compiling those data points. Completely align with your views. Cheers!
"8gigs is an offensive amount of memory"
Me who's running a 4gig laptop. 😭
lol 8GB is respectable even in pc space. 4GB is bare minimum
@` It's more that at the price range of the MacBooks, 8 GB is offensive in the PC world. For anything under $1000 8 GB is totally serviceable.
@@maybedonn Tbh Mac OS is so optimised on MacBooks that ram doesn’t really matter that much. Like a performance of a 4GB macbook is the same or better than a Windows laptop with 8GB due to Mac OS optimisation.
@@MrIDGAF For typical use cases I'd say so, as a developer though... yeesh. My 8GB 2014 Mac mini is unusable considering my Docker workloads
If you put linux on it 4 gb is downright roomy. On windows it can be tight, but it is doable if you are very careful about what is running in the background.
I edit all the videos on my channel on base model 8gb M1 MacBook Air and it’s plenty fast enough.

What I love about Dave is that he gives the best advices when it comes to whether or not a person should buy the latest gadget.
He’s very objective and wise. 💯
6:19 is why I trust Dave and love his work. I intentionally ignore all videos with a title like "Buy this" or "Don't buy this" for the same reason.
Exactly, I saw a lot of those “DON’T BUY’ titles everywhere… Like how he said “You know what your workflow is” Unless you think your viewers are incompetent of choosing the right configuration…
I’ve watched Dave’s video ever since the beginning and I gotta say, nobody views it more from a consumer’s perspective better than him! Just raw and honest talk of what someone should get without making it an over complicated and overwhelming endeavour.
Thanks for making such an informative video for everyone. I agree re: M1 for most users. I almost bought a MBP but recognized I don’t need the better speakers and screen because I don’t use the laptop by itself more than 30% or the time, and I edit videos a few times a year, so it was far better to spend the money to get an M1 Air with more RAM and storage.
Thanks Dave, I'm happy with my m1 Macbook Air (bought it after the release of 2021 Macbook Pro, upgraded to 16GB RAM). It's light, has great keyboard, amazing screen and really impressive battery life.
This was one of the more sincere/genuine commentaries I've seen in quite some time. I've also commented on this throughout YT in various posts. I am convinced that for 90% of consumers, the M1 basic is more than enough to accomplish the majority of their actions/tasks. Most laptop users are not content creators demanding heavy specs required to edit, produce, or process complex media or applications.
even if they are, i work with video editing with the most basic m1 air and after i started converting do prores, i've never seen it lag, not even when editing while rendering
I work with the 13 inch M1 MBP (8 core CPU/GPU with 16GB of RAM) and it easily handles everything I throw at it. There's really no need to spend so much extra money on something that will maybe get you a 10% increase in performance unless what you do is super deadline oriented.
What a great review. I love how realistic you are about your recommendations. Hanging out on forums you would think that you can't even consider writing code without the M1 Max w/ at least 32GB of RAM.
Excellent video! Thank you so much for this! It helped me a lot!

This is EXACTLY what I needed. I've been biding my time to upgrade my 2011 MacBook Pro and I think the 14 inch 10 core will be a great fit for me. I appreciate you sharing all of the benchmarks; it's really helpful to see the comparisons between the machines. Also, what resonated with me the most was when you said, it's your time and so, you buy the machine that will make your workflow work for you best. Hearing that statement made me remember, I'm working for me, not anybody else, and so, I don't need to buy the maxed out MacBook, I can work with the middle of the road device. Thanks, Dave!
Hey there be sure to Get the 96w adapter not the 67 one because that doesn't support fast charging
I appreciate all of the comparison graphs. Great video. Straight to the point!
Very helpful man, I was just trying to figure all this out. upgrading from a 16 MacBook pro. tks
I can confirm the 8gb ram statement as an owner of MacBook Air M1 and Mac Mini M1 used with 2 monitors: never felt a need for more, whatever I do on these two.
“The CAD stuff I use for work” I knew it, this new set is a render!

Hey Dave, Jose from Puerto Rico. Loved the concise, direct-to-the-point approach of your reviews. I got the Apple M1 Max chip with
10-core CPU, 32-core GPU, and 16-core Neural Engine
64 GB unified memory
2 TB SSD storage
16-inch Liquid Retina XDR display. I upgraded from a mid-2014 MBP with a dead battery. The difference in speed and power is a totally new experience for me. Incredible!
I just bought my first Macbook ever (M1 Pro 14 inch). Im 30 years old and I wished I had switched sooner. There is no reason to buy any PC out there for anything unless youre a gamer. I used my friends M1 Macbook Air 13.3 inch from last year and I was able to edit 10 bit 422 4k footage smoothly with full playback and no proxies. Seeing that made me make the decision to switch. Apple really did something special with these M1 chips.
I got a base M1 MBA for summer travel and it ended up being my main video editing machine. I can't justify even a 16G MBA much less a M1 Pro MBP lol
if u're a gamer the top spec m1 max kills it too xD really close performances to a ryzen 5800h + 3080 laptop, even with Rosetta

I really love how practically you explain the purchase decisions and i honestly really respect your viewpoint on ‘future-proofing’ which you said at the end of the video, cause thats what even i feel.
