In the movie, Arthur,,when Hobson was dying, Dudley Moore bought him everything he could think about buying... he cradled him with so much love.
I hope Dudley passed with that Love all around him. That scene was so sad, He lost his Best friend, and the acting of those two men, should've gotten them both an Oscar Award.

No. Dudley Moore is most famous in the US playing the role of Arthur in the movie of the same name plus a sequel, a super-rich drunkard who slurs his words and loses his balance, and basically behaves like someone who’s drunk. His only redeeming quality is that he’s a funny drunk, and a nice drunk.

Beautiful tribute. I’m a weepy mess right now. I had always wondered why New Jersey was his final home. Now of course it all makes sense. I think he knew how beloved he was. A brilliant man, brilliant musician, brilliant actor and comedian. Met him briefly in Greenwich Village, New York, where I lived, when they were shooting that awful Arthur 2. We saw him in concert in 1995 and he had to be helped on and off the stage by the conductor. Many people were disgusted by his “behavior” believing he was drunk while performing with a symphony. He wasn’t drunk, but none of us knew it at that time. Looking back I feel very honored that we were able to see him perform live before he was gone from us way too soon.

The movie "Arthur" is, hands down, my favorite comedy of all time. I couldn't even tell you how many times I've seen it. Both Dudley and Sir John gave stellar comedic performances, but it was Dudley's humanity I connected with. As someone who has also struggled with depression throughout my life, I think I could just sense the struggle in him, beyond the fantastic humor. I laughed (again) just watching the movie clips in this video. But I also cried. Watching this was so heartbreaking. You were a good soul, Dudley Moore.

I remember when Arthur came out in 1981 when I was a kid. HBO played it several years later and was something new. I was too young to understand it but loved the energy and fun and really loved Christopher Cross's Arthur's Theme. The world was so big then with a few tv channels, no internet, cell phones, people who lived 45 miles away were really far. Something like New York was gigantic. I still remember seeing it for real the first time in 1990 my dad brought me on a business trip to Baltimore and coming from New England we drove past New York City and how exciting that was. It's seems to be a common trend. Those who make us laugh the hardest leave this world under sad circumstances and before their time, Dudley Moore, Benny Hill, Robin Williams, Lenny Bruce, Richards Prior. They seem to mostly end with some crippling disease that takes them younger than others. You would think if there was a god, he would let the people who give us the most laughter and joy to live long lives with peaceful ends. Sad to hear of what happens to these men of our youth.

God bless Rena Fruchter; she became his best friend and confidante in the last decade of his life, and it was in the care of Rena and her husband that Dudley spent his final months. Dudley Moore was a great actor and musician/composer, RIP.

Personally, the only two movies that I liked were "10" and "Arthur," which starred the late great Dudley Moore. But aside from those films, I wondered what happened to Mr. Moore's lady companion, Susan Anton? She was quite a bombshell when she was with Dudley during their sex symbol days.

I didn't know about Moore's piano skills until I saw a series about music education called "The Orchestra" with none other than Sir Georg Solti. Watching him go through Mozart, Beethoven, Bartók and others was an unforgettable experience that still lives within me. I'd like to see that series again!

I don't know any celebrity I miss more than Dudley Moore. It comes as a surprise that he suffered from depression because of childhood traumas. He came across a such a happy person. I love the guy.

I do remember Dudley Moore watching him in movies. Not everyone from Great Britain has achieved International success. I didn't know he was married to actress Tueday Weld she was a beautiful woman. It's sad that his mother being a religious person with a Christian background, considered drowning him when he was quite small. But I guess it was good she didn't go through with it. Then the world would've missed out on his funny talent. Perhaps deep down inside his mom had some type of love for him. He certainly didn't die alone at least he had a friend that cared for him. When one's sick and alone not everyone wants to look after you. Perhaps he was very nice to the lady that decided to look after him. So kindness does go a long way & it did paid off. Not only was he a funny actor but he was talented even in music.

joe gongora: It's possible his mother suffered from depression which he may have inherited. Sometimes people get involved in religions that make them feel better and give purpose to their lives. Some women suffer postpartum depression and do kill their children to "save them from the devil". Many years ago a woman living on Long Island drowned her five children to save their souls. And a man in New Jersey killed his mother, wife, and children for the same reason. Their names escape me but their names are somewhere on RUclips.

@@MHow-qc3ns that's sad that sort of thing happens among loved ones. In the Fall of 1972 when I started my Sophomore year in high school here in CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS. A woman threw her 5 Yr old child into the bay by the seawall. A police officer saw what she did & jumped into the cold water but couldn't get the child cause it was cold and deep. When she was arrested she said some voice told her to kill her child. She claimed the voice told her the child was possessed by wicked spirits. It's sad that stuff like that happens. Well, thanks for replying to my comment & you have a wonderful day tomorrow. Stay safe out there not everyone in the world is evil. But it's always good to exercise caution.

@@joegongora2200: That's a very disturbing story and I'm sure it still haunts the police officer for not being able to save that child. And it's my pleasure to share with other commenters. You stay safe out there too and enjoy your life. Peace out.
