    Don't understand why everyone always rotate the wheels, watch the pushrods etc to find top dead center, base circle.... then sticking fingers into tappets. Just remove the cam cover and use the timing marks on the chain sprockets for exact top dead center. Easy peasy

    Nice Vid bro!. I recently picked up a 2018 softail FXLR. I came across the oil pump sump issue. I was thinking of getting the stock the oil pump to the HD revised one. At the same time, upgrade the cam to the S&S 475. Every detailed vid I've found on here until now shows everyone swapping out the stock pump and changing the cam plate. I was wondering how come you didn't swap out the pump or change the cam plate? Makes me curious if I need to spend the money on an aftermarket cam plate or would stock be just fine?

    • @GilstrapGarage
      @GilstrapGarage  Год назад +1

      It’s all about the money and what you want to spend! It’s critical to know the run out before you run one of the billet plates and pumps. So the sumping issues were a big deal on the 2018 models because it was a pretty new platform and Harley uses its consumers and test dummies lol. But the sumping didn’t affect the 107ci bikes as much as it did the bigger inch motors. So if it’s gone this long without an issue, it’s probably not going to become an issue. The aftermarket pump will move oil a lot more efficiently, and you’ll eliminate any question of concern, but it isn’t necessarily a cheap part to change, especially if you’re not having a problem.

    Hey man, thinkin about doing this cam on my 19 street glide special. Are there any issues with stock oil pump ? Is the s&s necessary? Also, what tuner do you recommend?

    • @GilstrapGarage
      @GilstrapGarage  Год назад +1

      If you read the comments on this video, you’ll see that people freak out with me not changing the oil pump. The sumping isn’t an issue like it was when the m8 came out 6 years ago. It’s a good upgrade to do the aftermarket pump and plate, but it’s also more important to know your crank runout before you stick them In there. In a lot of cases, I’d be fine with running the stock parts. For tuners, I’ve found the best results getting it Dyno tunes and flashes straight to the ECM without installing a tuner, but I’m also a big fan of the power visions and power commanders

      A power vision and a base map will get you close to where you need to be. That’s what I have done on my Dyna right now, but I’m also willing to rebuild it if I have problems lol. The best thing you can do on any build is get it dyno tuned.

    • @GilstrapGarage
      @GilstrapGarage  9 месяцев назад +2

      @@TheVeroneeLife there’s no dumb questions here brotha! Overall, a dyno tuner will be adjusting your air:fuel ratio. The better they get that ratio for your bike, the more power you make or the better fuel economy you get. As they tune though, they are monitoring all kinds of parameters to match what the air:fuel is changing. Head temps, exhaust temps, engine temps, exhaust gases, fuel timing, etc.
