Is the Vauxhall Corsa the must-have small family car? Well, let’s find out!
Mat’s got his hands on the Vauxhall Corsa-e, and he’s going to run you through everything you need to know in this in-depth review.
For starters, there is a choice of three different petrol engines. They’re all 1.2-litres, starting from 75hp and raising to 130hp if you choose the range-topper. However, there’s also an all-electric version available, which is powered by a single motor to deliver 136hp.
In terms of price, the entry-level petrol-powered Corsa is pretty affordable, at £17,000. However, should you choose to go all-electric, you’ll have to splash out a bit more, which prices starting from £27,000!
In terms of design, the Corsa is a pretty good looking car from the outside, looking relatively sleek from the front, and with the more expensive models come with the option to choose a contrasting black roof! On the inside, you’ll generally find good quality materials throughout the cabin, although the infotainment system isn’t all that good.
So should you choose the Corsa over competitors like the Skoda Fabia or Peugeot 208? You’ll have to stick with Mat to find out!

In my head it feels like a Corsa should start from under 10 grand. I'm still living in early 2000s motoring world.
It's inflation
This is the direct result of central banks printing money too much money
It's only going to get worse
Probably stuck in a dead end job and you wages have been stagnant since the 2000’s.
Yamaha scooter tricity 300 cost like 8-10grand
@@Glowy888 My wage has tripled since I started working in 2009 and I still think 17k or 21k usd for corsa is too much. Just 2 years ago Ford mustang started at 26k usd.
I agree mate. I’ve got a 2013 Corsa limited edition and I paid £11500 for it brand new. Still got it. And for the crap comment K M made, I make nearly 6 digits a year and I still find spending £20K on a finance deal outrageous for these level of cars. Value on cars are subjective.
Maybe we should drag race this against the internal combustion engine with the 130 HP one
Or against FIAT 500R.
It would definitely win over the petrol/diesel one
They should gather groceries with them, and do a school run.
I have the 130 hp 8spd AT from 2020. It costed me 19.5k € back then. The 0-100 is around 8.5s so a little bit slower. But as with all electric cars this one would loose its power at higher speeds so i am pretty sure that past something like 120 km/h it would be slower. Also i can do 700-750 km (around 450 miles) when driving normaly which this electric car can only dream about.
@@blackwidow7804 I can do 600 miles with 45L of diesel. BlueHDi 230hp and it still runs an average 62 MPG. Diesel > electric for everything…
I owned a petrol automatic for a year and my father in law now has the Corsa E. Mat's review is spot on really. It is a very capable car just nothing fancy or special about it. The petrol car was a fun little car to drive.
So he paid 30 grand for a corsa? 🤣🤣🤣🤦
@@fakevirus8828 I bet you don't even have 30 grand in your pocket
Back in 2005 I got a Corsa 1.2 Twinport SXI, it was pre-registered, 6 months old and cost £7.5k. I absolutely adored it and still to this day, after owning and driving many nice cars, think it was one of the best cars I've ever owned. Always had a soft spot for Corsa's since then.
Love the English sarcastic, straight to the bone critic, on how to review a car. No lies, no unnecessary compliments. Pure unbiased review . All that with a great sense of English humor. Thanks Mat
Without any shouting the commentary ;-)
This was the review I wanted 2 weeks ago. Ended up getting the 1.2 Turbo 6 Speed Petrol in the Elite Trim. Really happy with it
A great choice tbh. We had one as a courtesy car through the AA when our diesel Mondeo popped an injector.
I was really pleasantly surprised how nice it was to drive. The turbo petrol engine is an absolute cracker IMO. More than enough for pretty much any situation and makes a great noise too!
@@DaveWestMedia Yeah its a lovely little car. I had come from a very basic Ford Fiesta so all the extra bells and whistles have been really nice! Its not flashy at all but it still looks lovely I think. I feel like the Peugeot 208 looks more unique, but its personally not my taste. Think the Cross is an all round nice little car to drive.
Love this corsa and another fantastic review

love that Matt dressed up as a corsa driver for this review 😂
What, you mean a nerdy nonce in a baseball cap?
The way how Mat review cars is absolutely insane!
I missed where the isofix anchor points are. Ah, there they are! 5:33
There are loads of the corsa e on zip car in london . They are quite nippy in sport mode but suffer from torque steer , the brake peddle moves away from your foot in b mode because it blends the brakes with regen .
Regens took quite long to generate it.
It may not be fancy but the reason I chose to order this above rivals is for the very reason that while it excels at nothing it is good at everything. Plus I love the design and it was second to the e208 but like for like this was much better value. Can't wait for next month when mine is due to arrive!
Ey mate, I am considering buying it myself, how's your car doing?
@ElVertederoDeMochu I had to go back to a hybrid 4 months later as I was living in a flat at the time and public charging got too expensive. It was really good though couldn't fault it - now in a house I'm back in an EV but went for the Ioniq electric.
I for one don't really care about a load lip, usually just means more space like the back of a minivan when the rear seats are up and you can use the space where they fold down
ruclips.net/video/k8FV2o28EBY/видео.html
I would actually prefer some kind of load lip in the boot. Means if I've been shopping and a bag has fallen over, the shopping isn't going to immediately fall out the boot when the door's opened.
@@q3b26 happy idul fitri 2022 Billy J. 🙏
I own the Petrol version of the Corsa. Had that Aisin 8-speed's TCU tuned, and the 0-60 timings dropped from 8.7 seconds to 8.0 seconds. After that did a stage 1 ECU tune from 130hp & 230nm to 165hp & 260nm. 0-60 dropped from 8.0 seconds to 7.4 seconds. TCU tune resulted in the clutch lockup being just as fast a ZF 8HP's, but still drives as comfortably without any significant change to the shift pattern and logic. But it is less sluggish even without the stage 1 tune.
It is a fun car when you optimise the gearbox and a slight boost pressure increase for the turbocharger.
I reckon it'd be a good option for a daily commute. 👍🏼

3:50 I’ve heard the ‘shark’ Mat mentioned is like an Easter egg Vauxhall put in all their Corsa’s. I’ve got a 2014 Corsa D and it has a shark on the left side of the glovebox as you open it, not sure why they did it...
6:23 "I can't believe you've done this!" 🤣
Yes finally !! I’m so glad you have review this !! Come see me everyone if you wanna buy one at bury st edmunds !!
Hi,
I have the opel version (the same just brand badging) and for the “funny” reaction of the brake pedal it comes from the fact that for the first cm of the pedal it will just use an increasing rate of breaking generation and than the physical brake system will suddenly “kicks” in when you press further on the pedal.
So you can manage to stop the car gently only using the “break pedal assist regenerating breaking” if you concentrate enough of the way you press on the break pedal! 🤣🤣🤣
I’m gonna hope the 0-60 was done in Sport mode as the Corsa-E, E-208 etc all have different levels of power in each mode. I believe “normal” mode only give you around 100 bhp whereas sport gives you the full 136.
The Corsa looked like a scaled down VW Polo.
136 hp that’s so slow average should be 500 or slow
@@alexk3469 500 bhp in a Corsa?

@@SusieSmart yeah why the fuck not why the fuck not do they not have the money to build a sports car like come on you can build efficient cars but you gotta build at least one performance car
That's one amazing looking small car. I'd definitely get one for myself.
I think some of the shorcomings are mainly due to the short time they had to developp the car after the buyout by PSA
"Shark tat, on your butt", I love that Matt asks questions 😄.
Vauxhall Corsa-e 2022 looks good in orange & black exterior ! Interior looks good as well as comfortable ... Slainte' ! Cheers !
Am got corsa e Sri ,from April, nice car,136hp,nice comfi seats,am lovet
I drove one of these as a courtesy car. I'm not super tall (6") but i COULD NOT find a driving position that worked. My knee ALWAYS hit the steering wheel when coming off the clutch. Could not understand how they managed that. I had the seat as low as it goes, the wheel as high as it goes. I had 2 options, either have the seat so far back that i was reaching for the pedals (not safe) or to cock my leg to the side when coming off the clutch.
Also I don't have abnormally large feet (size 9) but there was NOT SPACE in the footwell for my feet. There wasn't enough room to the left of the clutch for my shoes which meant it was possible to clip the clutch when resting my feet....
Cannot recommend for slightly-larger-than-average men.
I’m on my 2nd CorsaE through the VX Employee scheme (family member). On the whole Matt’s review is fair, the single biggest failure of the car for me is the battery range. In winter the range is reduced by around 20% and that’s before you start using stuff like heated seats and steering wheel etc. I’ve never had a full charge of more than 195 miles. The trim level is good and the profile setting allows for the car to be set up for different drivers but there are areas where the French arm of PSA (now Stelantis)have got the upper hand with trim level and looks.
Overall the car is a joy to drive and for commuting this type of vehicle should be a no brainier but the showroom price is ridiculous for a car that can realistically only accommodate two adults.
For me, it's quite a bit worse. It's more like half the range in the winter. I couldn't get 100 miles this past winter, whereas I'm getting closer to 180 during the summer months.
The brakes are also very spongy. Because of the regen braking, it's hard to judge how much pressure to apply, because you're not actually applying pressure to anything - It's all electronic. And the transition between the regen braking and the physical brakes leaves a lot to be desired.
@@Tresla im like you about 90 miles around town in the winter- that’s with no heated seats and actual heating at a bare minimum so freezing. I think the worst thing is if they break down nobody knows what their doing, has taken 9 weeks for my dealership to diagnose why its not charging!!! Going to be fun when were all driving them, lets hope more public transport with better routes are put in place
I like how the interior is Vauxhall inspired rather than a full rebadged Peugeot. The shark is an Easter egg from previous Corsas - I think on the Corsa D there was one on the hinge of the glovebox.
Matt great review.
I just can't ignore that most cars have such large antennae on them in britain. A shark fin antenna just looks so superior and modern. What's the deal with that??
ruclips.net/video/k8FV2o28EBY/видео.html .
Maybe it’s to do with dab radio and fm radio. Never thought about it before.
I completely agree, I replaced all the antennas on our cars to shark fins, it's extremely easy and cheap.
Needs removing for out car transporters. Ours are 3 deck so they are over 16ft and the antenna needs to screw off or they get ripped off under bridges. Cheers.

Watching this while still waiting for my Corsa E Ultimate.. I was supposed to get it this month but got pushed back to October due to supply shortages.
Apparently, the charging unit of the car is made in one single factory in one single country. And not only for this car, but for almost all major car brands. Guess what country this is? It starts with U and ends with kraine... yeah...
It doesn't work properly anyway lots of issues with charging and dealerships who can't fix it as they haven't been trained
@@TheAlien1974 yes. Sometimes it need to pass certain tests.
@@TheAlien1974 ✅ my corsa e has now been in the dealership 9 weeks, they have now just discovered why its not charging. They have today suggested it could be at least 6 months to get the part which is £1.800. The car is 9 months old now. From what i can make out its a common fault. Nobody seems to know what their doing to diagnose and repair. Ive had to fight with Vauxhall as they tried to blame me for the fault, yet if you take a electric car on a motorway and you need to charge, (and you will if going any distance) most of the charging ports are broken because the pins have pushed back, this must damage the charging port on the car if your the unfortunate one to be using it at that point. I did love it, now i cant wait to get rid of it, and im dreading the government’s electric car plans.

The shark thing is kinda of an easter egg for Opel (or Vauxhall). It is present somewhere in some of their models
Why is Opel called Vauxhall in Britain? Ive nerver understood this
Opel is a German car company that until the 70s had nothing to do with Vauxhall... General Motors wanted to save money on development costs for new cars, so Opel got to design all Vauxhalls from that point ( prior to the 70s, Opel never made cars for Vauxhall)

My corsa e is quickest at 30-50, laggy off the line :(
My e208 is also bad at 0-30. You cannot launch it full throttle unless the road is perfect. The front wheel drive cannot handle the torque of these cars.

The original new Corsa design had to be re developed from scratch when PSA took over from GM so they've done an ok job considering the tight schedule.
I have one and it's a great town car. I watched a video with the design guy from vauxhall and it was rushed through after the takeover from PSA. They apparently had a Corsa ready to go but they had to change it. If they did an astra with a better range i would definitely get one. The first part of the brake pedal is regen apparently

Can we have a review on the Kia proceed gt line 2022
The true test of a Corsa in its natural environment is how well it deals with the tight turns in a McDonalds drive-thru, and how well the drivers windows matches up to the drive-thru hatch.
Did he mention that it’s an Opel after all?
Which is ALSO a Peugot, AND a Citroën, etc etc etc.
A couple of months ago one of these Corsa-e's broke down whilst turning into our village at a T junction , it couldn't be moved. It blocked one lane & a few villagers actually directed the traffic for around 5 hours before it could be put onto a low loader by the AA. My question is what would of the consequences be if this had happened on a motorway, dual carriageway or some similar busy fast moving road ? It really doesn't bear thinking about, it's put me right off EVs.
As someone quite tall, the one thing I CAN fault on these, is the driving position specifically. I can't ever get any support on my legs from the seats and the steering wheel position always feels awful no matter where I put it
I own one, almost identical to the one in the review (apart of the color and the left drive, and of course the brand, because it's Opel) and I actually find it better than its Peugeot sister.
It may be less fancy (it is), but they are basically identical in terms of usage, behaviour and spaces, and the interiors of the Corsa are far more practical than the 208.
The seat position, without that mini steering wheel of Peugeot, is better and more adjustable, the options are the same, and the screen behind the steering is far more readable than the one on the 208.
Basically, with the Corsa you are not losing anything except of flavour against the 208, and between the two I've chosen the Corsa.
There are not many options of electic-decently-powered-non-suv-b-segment cars.
Two of them are the Corsa and the 208, and I think the Corsa is preferable unless you really like the 208 aesthetic.

Wasn't the leaf an option for you?
@@chickenfortress7956 actually no because the Leaf is half meter longer and it doesn't even fit into my box.
I see it more like a C segment car, mostly comparable with the VW id.3.
Anyway I think is a good car, I've driven the 62Kwh version and it's kind of brilliant.
I'm planning to give my Corsa to my dad in next 2 or 3 years when I'll change apartment, so the Leaf may become an option afterall. :)
@@artemis83 I test drove it this weekend, hence why I am asking. I have decided to wait until next year to jump on the electric car train but ultimately considering everything under similar price range out there at the moment I would not go for anything else other than the leaf.
@@chickenfortress7956 I agree it's a reasonable thinking of yours.
If you consider what's out there on the market, we have still far too many spots without any choice for electric cars.
Assuming that id.3/Born are not suitable because, come on, they have soooo many issues and vw is really struggling with software, on the segment we have the Leaf, the e-c4 (which is kind of suv anyway and it's another Corsa/208 powertrain), the new upcoming Mégane and the still non-existent-but-annouced 308/Astra, which again, it's Stellantis so we are not moving away to different technology.
The rest are suv, and otherwise we have to jump directly to the Model 3, a 4.70ish meter long car.
So I agree with you, in value for money the Leaf is an absolute bargain, and it's maybe the best option still in the next future.
I have used this car a few times in london as part of the "Zipcar" fleet (car sharing) - it is generally good to drive but not going to lie, I noticed the break pedal issue as well and it's quite annoying - also, it almost feels that it has a similar issue with the steering, especially in tight spaces (car parks etc.) it feels like it is adjusting the steering by itself with small automatic movements... it's not bad overall but it falls behind other competitors such as Toyota, Volkswagen and Peugeot.
Never noticed any brake pedal issue cos I was so focused on that terrible steering, its constantly overcorrecting on the straight and then once you try and turn it turns to jelly, and then you have to overcorrect it yourself. Feel like the lane keeping assist had a part to play in that, and I could not locate a button to fix that anywhere in the cabin...
Matt can you do a review of a proton or even produa if you get a produa maybe do a review on the axia and myvi
We have the 1.2 petrol (100hp eat8) version and its absolutely brilliant. I love this little car.
So I've got the corsa gs line 2020 (1.2 turbo with 130 hp) and it's absolutely amazing. The thing that separates it from the 208 or any French car is the built quality. When you close the doors you can instantly feel the difference between a German car and a French one
And the economy mode is fantastic. The driving gets really smooth, you almost won't feel bumps or road cracks and the real life distance rises from about 400 km to 500.
You are aware that the Corsa is a rebodied 208, so no longer a German design, plus the Corsa is built in Spain? The only thing German about it is the Opel badge.
