I absolutely love how earnest the film is. There is something incredibly beautiful about the idea that even in a society that does not care all that much about certain people, there is hope to be found.
Love this movie, watched it on a whim while I was in Korea and was blown away. People always bring up it's a romance, but I never saw it that way. Nothing is really shown to imply that and I feel it cheapens it, especially for a movie that does so well to avoid genre cliches and conventions. To me, it's a friendship between two social outcasts and how their relationship develops from the need of human affection and a sense of purpose. The ultimate feel good movie. It's chicken soup for the soul or should I say jajangmyeon for the soul.
I first saw Castaway on the Moon in 2012 when it was available on Netflix and would talk about it to anyone who would listen. The film introduced me to Korean cinema which lead me to watch I saw the Devil and I'm a Cyborg and That's Okay. when I read that there was a planed American remake I was excited, now that I'm older I understand that there is no need for one. Thank you for putting a spotlight on a truly underrated film I hope for your channel continues growth and success
Indeed no reason for a remake, this film's unique and wonderful magic would be lost if it were to be remade. I appreciate the support and kind wishes, thank you ❤.
Awesome video. I adore this movie it has so many funny and creative ideas. Its really sad its almost impossible to buy or stream it anywhere because more people should watch it. I just love that you talk about so many lesser known south korean (indie) movies. Everytime when I can't find good reviews to small movies I just watched I find your reviews! :D I would also recommend "Microhabitat (2017)" to you if you not have seen it yet. I'm sure you would love it! Also "Aloners (2021)" it another really good new indie movie from south korea.
Nice reference, thank you so much and it doesn't matter if not many people show up to the island as long as the ones here enjoy it that's what matters ❤
Watched it so many times over the years. The ending always makes me teary eyed...and I want a big bowl of black bean noodles 🍜 This is a great movie. Its easy to become invested in the characters and care about what happens to them. Wish they would have done an epilogue with scenes from their future life.
This movie felt like the offspring of castaway and the Martian. Given that the Martian novel AND movie came out after this, I can’t help but assume this movie was an inspiration
I saw your older videos with the posters I think you might like ( the witch part 1) Korean movie.... also part 2 is coming soon! I have a list of movies depending on the genres you want to watch or review Thank me later!!!
Thank you for reviewing the good movies I presented once in Türkiye and watched with my foreign friends. I am Korean, grew up around the place where the movie, kim's island was set, and still live nearby. ☺ I guess you don't review movies recently. The place is Bamseom island in Yeouido.
