KT is cool but it's not nearly deep enough to replace 40k as the main tournament game. With 10th edition 40k is pretty close to a tournament game these days. Stream line anymore and it will become a board game, kind of what KT is.
So does 40k have depth? Yes of course. But consider why. Variety of factions with bespoke rules, multiple "missions" to accomplish, and interesting terrain. I think killteam has this. I'm not saying it's a replacement game for everyone but it's fun for sure and I know they said they want it to be very balanced for tournament play.

40k is not deep at all. The core rules of KT provide a dynamism and interactivity that make 40k look like chess.
