    Are your vents dummies or are you going to cut the boarding under them, so that they vent the interior?
    Painting is not only for decoration, it also gives a protective coat to the timber. You should, therefore, paint your vents all over, not just the outside, before fitting them.

      Don’t worry they have been painted completely several times since this video! And the vents will just be dummy, no point venting it as there’s nothing stored in there that actually needs ventilation! Lol

    Hi Ollie, it's really looking good now, I love the dummy vents a great addition. Take care and stay safe.

      The box van is an easy project to progress, hope to get plenty more done on this in the next few weeks! Thank you so much for the donation, it goes a really long way to helping the channel! 🚂

    Hi Olly, having not long ago qualified as a scaffold erector at the EARM, l noticed that the cross bars are incorrectly fitted. They should be on top of the side bars, clamps downwards. So your safety bars are spaced evenly. If you fell off! HSE might not be too happy. Great Video yet again mate, real sorry I missed you the other week. You must come down again and let me know in advance. I’ll give you a guided tour!!😂

      I'll have to let you know when im visiting next, and yes my scaffold tower was thrown up in 5 mins, I'll put more effort in next time! haha

    Nice seeing the van taking shape 👍🏻 Think it’s fantastic a young guy like you Ollie is saving a piece of BR that was so common back in the day before lorries took over 🙄 I’m old enough to remember long trains of vans with a brake van at the end of the train happy days lol 😆 No offence Ollie but I bet you’re not old enough to remember those trains 🤔but it’s fantastic your saving one 👍🏻 Cheers Stevie

      Haha yeh I never got the chance to see them on the mainline but from videos they certainly looked the part, hopefully I can bring it back to its former glory, hope you enjoyed the video :)

    Glad to see the van again! I can tell this one will be fixed up and looking rather smart without much effort, looking at the quality of those timbers.

      100%, mainly just some cosmetic work and some new doors, should be ready for next seasons running 👍

    Nice one Ollie. Being an Old Timer, I'd have done the metalwork first but it's great to see it filling in like that. I hope you kept the templates for the Vent Covers? Great stuff and progress is progress, sir. Keep Warm out there, Ollie. Cheers!

      Im probably doing it in the wrong order but we live and we learn! Yeh I can now make vents as and when I need!

      @@WardleRestorations No bother at all Ollie. We certainly do! You do it your way...unless the instructions on the box say otherwise!

    Hi Ollie More great work, its looking better already and you have only done one end (on this video at least), good luck with it. It will look really good when all the lettering etc is on.

      Fingers crossed I’ll make quick progress with this, only thing that will take time is the door replacement!

    I don’t understand why you’re not painting all surfaces. I noticed it on the footboards for the brake van, now on the inside of the vents.
    That’s where it’ll go rotten first.

    • @WardleRestorations
      @WardleRestorations  Год назад +1

      Since the video they’ve all been painted, you’ve obviously never run out of paint before!😂

      Oh yeh 100x easier! This is all cosmetic, nowhere near the renovation the brake van needs!

    @wardle road just to make things clearer for all. Your audience isn't just general public but also fellow wagon restorers and enthusiasts. If you could share with us what products/paints you're using like you did with the Bilt Hamber it would be most useful. That and the link to said products in your Amazon Wishlist

      That’s a fantastic idea! I’ll have this done for the next video 100%! Amazon wish list I’ll get sorted in the next few days 👍

    Yet another fantastic video Ollie 😊 very informative and most interesting. You’re making some great progress on the box van and it’s already so much better. Well done. I agree to the suggestion to paint the inside of the vents to protect from the weather. Good music background too.

    I like the box van more than the brake van personally, i wish the car i had wasn’t all built up from scratch and blueprints (some original bits) because atleast with your van everything is there already to be worked ether via cleaning up or by having a pattern for the few replacement parts

    • @WardleRestorations
      @WardleRestorations  Год назад

      Yeh this van is very much just cosmetic work and some new doors, and the vents of course. It was in a fairly good condition when I bought it considering it was built over 100 years ago!
