I see that now, too funny! Anyway, I picked up a ‘69 Olympic 12/3 at an auction this summer. It looks complete minus the airbox, but nice original seat and windshield for $110 bucks. It has spark and the tank looks good. I’ve been wanting a bubble nose forever so I’m pretty happy to get this one! I grew up with a Evinrude Norseman and a ‘74 t’nt. Interesting, I don’t see a lot of Evinrudes at your shows. I would love to come across another OMC opposed engine one day! Thanks again Matt! 🙂✌️
I was surprised to see the resemblance in our appearance and content!!!! lol! Glad you enjoyed the video and a shout-out would be VERY MUCH appreciated!!!!! Thanks for taking the time to comment!
Thanks for you videos. And your advice with finding the problem out. if it wasn't for you my old skidoo would be going for scrap I had no idea it was that easy to fix. Cheers to you man. 🍻
That a hot engine. They ran then in a yellow ski Doo. ,50 to ,60 and up.i sold sleds but kept the 440 had it in many sleds loud as hell. Ski-Doo bombardier
This is going to be priceless when I dig into the skidoo 340 I picked up today. Also have a 79 moto-ski 340, parts interchangeable. Thanks for doing this video!
Yeah, the 1975-1979 motoski nuviks were the same as olympiques. All the same parts. Good luck with your project. Let me know if you have any questions!
@@mattsws quick update, the skidoo will run great for like 5-10 minutes, depending on how hard I run it, and then it'll just slowly die out, hitting the throttle does nothing, then it dies, kind of like it's being robbed of gas or something. Let it cool off, starts up, rinse and repeat. I'm thinking it may be a crappy coil. Maybe a leak on one of the seal, idk.. Season is over, I'll screw around with it this fall lol
How do I fix a spark on one cylinder got two new coils have the same machine 79 340 is what I got spark on left right side no spark new coil and plugs still no spark on right any ideas check the points and if so I gotta take the flywheel off right ?
Switch the wiring on you coils from one coil to the other. If the problem changes sides, you have to look at points/condensor/internal wiring. If the problem is still on the right side, you have a problem with the coil or anything after. You can see the points through the flywheel, but if you want to change them you have to take flywheel off.
I’m a skidoo guy, so I don’t have anything to say to that… I can agree with you that most of the older sleds were high maintenance, but that’s why you have to have a bunch. So you always have at least one that runs!!! Thanks for watching!
I was always amazed at how much more pep a 377 had vs a 1970s 340 or even a 440fc for that matter. The Mikuni and clutch setup must have made most of that difference... Thanks for watching!!
I was given the same sled as yours and I am going through everything. There was 2, 5 gallon pails of pine needles removed just to get started.Ended up pulling the chain case because of broken bolts. It seems like everything is there. All the fuel lines were laying on the frame and disintigrated in the tank. The guy that gave it to me said he bought it new in 1975 so I will have to replace the battery.Good score.
Even when they haven’t ran in years (or decades…) they are pretty easy to get back up and running. Its a great all around sled. Congrats on your score and thanks for watching!
I had one of those back in 1989 and it was 340 fan and it ran perfect until the kid I sold it to ran his Lawnboy summer premix in it and burned the pistons and blamed it on me saying I sold him a Lemon of a Snowmobile
Yeah, similar stuff happened to me too. Something you have runs great for years, then the new owner blows it up as soon as he gets it!!! Its a shame. Thanks for watching!
'?Theres another guy I watch hunter gatherer he fixes eerything has a sonic type cleaner n just throws all his carb fuel things in it he gets carb cleaner about 20 bucks a gallon. just turn it on for bout an half hour to an hour it might be a harbor freight unit but does a really good job cleaning all carborator parts. And has a small like scissor lift pretty cool main ly for motorcycles but hes had cars n vans on it to. I think its very slick for mowers atv's garden tractors etc just a small like garage type shop
That’s what I run mine at. With modern oils, you can even go to 50:1, but most people I know don’t want to risk things on a 50 yo engine, so they run around 40:1.
We used to have the exact same snowmobile when i was a kid but ours was widened in the front and had wide plastic skis. it helped a lot for the stability ours was a 1975 as well but there was a big issue with the carburetor when the engine was hot there was a steam lock in he fuel line so we ended up replacing it with a Mikuni carb instead it ran nice with that until there was an leak in the seal behind the variator and we took it to a repair shop to get it fixed but unfortunately the whole crankshaft came apart when they was taking the variator off so the whole engine was replaced by one that was newly renovated and we also got a new seat and a new track the snowmobile that all of these items came from was damaged in a crash
So far I have been lucky and no vapor lock issues with mine... Yeah crank seals can scrap an engine pretty quickly... Mine as new seals so I should be ok. Thanks for watching!!
I have a 1977 Olympique 340 that I use for ice fishing up here in Manitoba. It purrs like a 44 year old kitten! lol Paid $500 for it and have been riding for 12 seasons on it. I built a wooden "trappers box" between the seat and tunnel on mine and it raised the seat up about 6 inches. Easier on the old back and knees to ride on now.
Great to hear! Mid 70’s Olys are great all-around machines! My uncle has one with a jacked up seat and you’re right, it’s real comfortable on the back and knees. Makes the machine a little tippy tho…
Hey Matt, love the videos, almost makes me want to trade in my 22 Kaos. For a Oly…. But curious as to wether or not the 110 single pole switch was stock.
Hey Stuart, unfortunately no, the single pole switch is aftermarket. And by aftermarket I mean whatever I had lying around that would do the job! Thanks for watching!!
it must have been absolute murder editing this much footage. great stuff! It almost felt like I was right there getting my hands oily just watching it.
Lol! It was one of my first videos and you’re right, I spent many nights editing it. In fact, I filmed and edited it about 1 year before I published… Hopefully with time and practice, my content will only get better! I should be getting back into some snowmobile videos in a month or two, fyi. PS, I liked your animations on your channel! Take care buddy!
Matt, nice work, another great video. You have inspired me to go work on my 77 Olympique 440. Or should I go work on my white hooded 75 Oly 300??? Neither are ready yet for snow yet and I've never ridden them. Decisions, decisions......We gotta preserve these old gems.
I think I would go for the 440, just because I always found the “small” olympique 440 to be a peculiar engine… I never understood why they made it. The Olympique was a nice all around sled with several moderate power option, but if you wanted something with a little more power, why not go with a tnt? That being said, I dont think the 440 olys were very popular, so that makes them kinda rare… At least in my opinion! Let me know what you decide to fix up OR better yet, make a video of it!!!!
Looks like the fuel lines got put on in reverse from when you started the video. Which way should they be on this carb? I'm trying to figure this out on a sled I'm trying to resurrect that didn't have fuel lines in the first place.
It would be less cumbersome to use the Tillottson integral fuel pump instead of a separate Mikuni fuel pump. It would provide more space to work around the engine and it would look cleaner too.
The original hood had no gauges and was smashed to pieces when I got it... This hood was bought at a swap meet and has a gauge, but the glass is all broken and isn’t hooked up.
Totally agree, but where I'm from, even Premium pump gas has ethanol in it now... We used to still be a able to get zero ethanol gas at Shell, but since about 1-2 years that has ethanol in it aswell... I use additives to bump up octane and get it to last a little longer, but that the best I can do without spending a fortune on race gas....
Nice video, man! Love how you go about things, very cool! Thanks. 🙂✌️
Yeah, that was my first video! Glad you enjoyed!!!!

Love the old Olympics my first ride as a kid was on a 75 300 twin
Awesome! That was a nice sled!

That's awesome you put a light switch on it for a kill switch 🤣

Thanks for this video! Our family's first sled was a 1977 Ski Doo Olympique 340. What a great sled.
They sure were all around great sleds! Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed!!!
One of the biggest pos ever built. Had a 75 panther at the same time just hit the key and go. The ski doo made me walk home every time.

Uuh...you forgot to attach the pump vacumn line!
Oops! 😬

Can u run a 340 air cooled engine on a 40 to 1 mix?
That’s what I run mine at. With modern oils, you can even go to 50:1, but most people I know don’t want to risk things on a 50 yo engine, so they run around 40:1.
I just sold ski Doo 377 and a rare ,trx 340

I did a double take when you shut the thing off with a light switch! Cool video
Those are the kind of repairs you make when you are just too excited to get out and ride it! Glad you enjoyed the video!
Uh primer line
Yup…

Talks about using to much powing screwing the carbs together, as i watch him crank on them
I applied just the right amount of crank!!! Lol!
Looks like the fuel lines got put on in reverse from when you started the video. Which way should they be on this carb? I'm trying to figure this out on a sled I'm trying to resurrect that didn't have fuel lines in the first place.
I noticed that when I edited the video! The way it was before I took the carb apart is the right way!
It would be less cumbersome to use the Tillottson integral fuel pump instead of a separate Mikuni fuel pump. It would provide more space to work around the engine and it would look cleaner too.
I would have to agree with you on that one! Thanks for the great tip!
Looks like it's going pretty good. Does the guage work?
The original hood had no gauges and was smashed to pieces when I got it... This hood was bought at a swap meet and has a gauge, but the glass is all broken and isn’t hooked up.
Low soeed jet 3/4 turn out...high 1 1/4...
Adj accordingly thats a baseline
Words of wisdom! Thanks for watching!!
1 cyl. 😕
It was running on both, but I think one cylinder does have some damage…
Why would you run ethanol gas in it ?Never do that with any small engine.

91 octane from Canadian tire is still ethonal free here in ontario
N G K plugs only bloody two strokes!
They are my plug of choice!
@@mattsws hi ! i've a oly 300 1975 and if it works with yours too, i'd consider some champion L78
