PHP developer salary is not less. Some developers know HTML and some basic PHP to create dynamic websites. Their salary is low and They call themselves PHP developer.
For me PHP is the gateway to learning Web Development, at least you need to touch it, to be able to grasp how the Web works, Python is good but Really Slow, also almost all library are pre template, with bunch of premade method so instead of making one you can just call a method directly and the library does the work for you. This is where PHP shine coz you can customize the hell out of it, People hates PHP because its hard, its probably the hardest language I've encountered, the hard part about it is that, you can't blame the language when you write a bad code or has hole of security breaches, coz you designed it yourself but not like reinventing the wheel but more likely understanding the wheel's architecture. But people want things done faster disregarding architectural design, specially in smaller scale applications so PYTHON Will always be above PHP in this sense.
Yes u r right even I started my web dev career with php. Php teach me lot of things especially how sql works and now I'm using python, js. I strongly recommend php because it teach you lot of things
Python is slow? Lol, Python is slow by itself, but with C extension and powerful libraries like Numpy, Scipy and Pandas, it blows PHP out of water. Also, PyPy that runs with JIT compiling mechanism is fast too.

Weird but not complicated. For example calling an object/method uses "->" instead of ".". It is time consuming tho 'cause you have read all the global and environmental variables but i don't think it's even near complicated.
Python is to slow, it definitely is not the future. It is popular because it is easy to learn and lots of libs are written in it. But it is way to slow for a lot of things.
