    I realize that the story behind this company is interesting, as is the design, and I absolutely love to see veterans launch successful businesses. It's like when a celebrity we really like opens a restaurant. We want to like the restaurant; however, the food has to be good. Not saying this gun is "bad"; it will appeal to a lot of people. It's my job to just point out what I like and what I don't like,; it's what we do. :-) Also, be sure to check out the HIckok45 Store: www.hickok45.com/store/

      Subwoofer rather than sit indoors and just watch him while smoking weed, why not just go out and set your own range up and have fun yourself? Theres no substitute for doing it yourself, no matter how high you get and watch it, it's never as fun.

    At 4:45 "I've shot it weak handed, I've shot it strong handed, I've shot it with my knees, it has not malfunctioned"
    I think it is quite phenomenal how placing the main spring lower allows this gun to reduce the recoil and muzzle flip to the point where I can shoot this gun with my knees. May require some training but that's ok

    Everyone complains that the only pistols coming out are glock clones. So a company tries and creates something unique and people can help but get assmad about it.

    • @squirts1
      @squirts1 5 лет назад +17

      this is a asinine thoughtless comment... who is "assmad" and what does that mean? Also, you say this as if you are talking about a person who hates glocks and wants something unique then hates on this for being unique... as if this entity/group of people are homogeneous when there are millions of people who all care about different things... some people hate glocks and want something new, other people like glocks and dont care about new gimmicks...

      I keep reading comments and hearing it said on RUclips reviews: "It's a voluntary upgrade. Why didn't Sig Sauer make it a Mandatory Recall?" Exactly how is Sig supposed to MAKE a grown person send something back for a recall or upgrade? Of course it's voluntary. There is no way to make a person send their pistol back.

    It would seem like an all stainless steel high capacity 9mm handgun with a 1911 grip angle, great striker fired trigger group and an ultra low bore axis would be something on the wish list for many of the competition semi auto pistolero's who participate in IDPA and other timed defensive pistol competitions. Also, $1100 isn't really a lot of coin when shopping for steel frame semi autos. 1911's , Competition CZ's, Tanfoglio Witness, Beretta's, and Sig's are all similarly priced or more expensive.

    If anyone's watching this in 2020... I got a late serial model just as the company went under, and it has zero tolerance issues. One of their manufacturers delivered some out of spec parts, and it caused a lot of issues for some people. The Trijicon front sight is meant to be a 12 o'clock hold, with 147gr +P rounds. It's different than what a lot of people are used to, myself included. I swapped the front sight for a Dawson Precision fiber optic (M&P front sights will work on it, they use the same dovetail dimensions), and it's the most accurate striker gun I own. Muzzle flip is almost non-existent, and the recoil feels like an angry .22 It's usually the first gun I hand new shooters, and the look of sheer delight on their face when they just absolutely drill the ten ring, and it doesn't hurt their hand is priceless. I've put around 3K rounds through mine so far, and I felt like it was worth every penny I spent on it. I really wish they'd been able to iterate on the gun a bit more, there are some design features that could have been implemented better. Overall though, it's pretty darn good. If you can find one used, I'd jump on it.

    As heavy as the H9 is, I love someone finally innovating and doing something different. It seems like loads of fun to shoot all day and comes with good features. Pricey, yes, but unique as well. I can’t remember the last time a company (not named Sig or Beretta) made a metal-framed gun.

  • @wickedcoolname5756
    @wickedcoolname5756 6 лет назад +60

    Wow! Didn't expect to see a review on this gun. My buddies and I just shot the heck out of one of these last week. We beat this thing like a red headed step kid and it just took it. I put 300 of my semi-hard cast reloads and at least 5 or 6 hundred factory loads including g 115, 124 and 147 grain bullets as well as a box or two of some steel jacketed NATO ammo. I have to say this thing shot exceptionally well. Zero misfires. No stovepipes or jams of any sort.
    About the only thing we did was Frankenstein a Talon grip made for a Glock 17 that I had in my kit. The extra grip helped quite a bit. And I also painted the red part of the front sight white as I do with all of my firearms.
    I really didn't expect to be impressed with this thing but I couldn't find a single thing I didn't like.

      The trigger was fine for combat distances and for plinking. If I were looking to compete I'd look at having some work done. Point of impact was point of aim once I painted the front sight white. The grip texturing was okay but I found that this gun, like just about all modern pistols really benefited from much grippier grips.

Since this is a new company from the ground up, I wish Hudson all the Best in their firearm endeavors. I would like to see this pistol come with a Polymer frame...if it's possible, since this iteration is not light by any means....it's a heavy piece.

    • @chriskerwin3904
      @chriskerwin3904 6 лет назад

      The gun is meant to be a high end carry piece. That's why it has the Trijicon HDs on it. As a carry piece it's a fantastic gun and it would probably make a fairly good military side arm as well; watch the InRange interview, Cy mentions that the Army Special Forces guys already like these guns quiet a bit.

    • @chriskerwin3904
      @chriskerwin3904 6 лет назад +2

      They announced another product coming out at shot show that will most likely be a lighter aluminum or steel version of the gun. We can expect a polymer version around 2020 when the Steyr patent on polymer framed guns with an internal chassis to expire. Both of those options should make the gun significantly lighter. The complaints about sights are stupid being that they are interchangeable with M&P sights/sight cuts. I think ergonomics are fairly important as well and this gun should fit most people's hands really well.

    • @chriskerwin3904
      @chriskerwin3904 6 лет назад

      I understand the importance of weight and obviously so do SOF switching from the MK 25 (SIG 226) to the glock 19 almost certainly for weight savings. The MK 23 was designed to be an "offensive handgun" which is kind of a made up idea that only make sense in some sort of door breaching scenario probably with a shield or battering ram. We know for a fact that modern SOF guys are using MP7s or subguns when they can't carry rifles. But, for an everyday carry pistol, it seems like quiet a few people like them enough regardless of the weight that they would carry them in place of something like a G19 etc

    I love that someone out there is looking at different ways to improve modern pistol design which is pretty stagnant. That problem is the price of production is crazy high especially with a new design combined with what is a essentially a mom and pop company launching a new product. I truly wish them success, but the price point is a major hurdle for me especially when you’re hovering around Kimber prices etc.

    • @hickok45
      @hickok45  6 лет назад +4

      At some point things get to where there's not much way to improve, especially if about all the human characteristics and preferences have already been addressed. Once you get a package together that is about as small as practical, ergonomic, light, reliable, and powerful enough, etc. there's not a lot left to be done. It's why people get sick of hearing about the G19; other than some grip improvement, there's not a lot that can be done to get better than THAT package. CZ and S&W make a lot of guns and put a lot into research and development, but what do both companies come up with recently, CZ p10 and M&P Compact. Both are pretty much attempts to match the G19 in size, weight, capacity, reliability. It's just hard to come up with much that will improve a hammer. :-)

      Thing is this is not a hammer. If it were we'd say it does the job to heck with improvements. This however is something that might help people live another day. If; and I do mean if the lower muzzle flip provided by this firearm can help keep someone safe then this new design is worth it. Right?

    I picked up a new Hudson H9 yesterday from my local gun shop for $936 (pre-tax) and put about 300 rounds today and yesterday. No issues at all. Feels very nice in the hand. Sits lower than a 1911 and less felt recoil and muzzle flip than a Wilson EDC X9. The weight feels a little less than a full size 1911 chambered in .45. The only thing I didn't like is the front sight, which is sighted for 25 yards, is too high for shooting at 7-10 yards unless you modify your sight picture. At 10 yards, I'm lining up the front sight's orange circle with the top of the rear sight (lollipop sight picture) and it's spot on. I'll change the front sight soon.
    Overall all, great product from a new company that just announced the H9 a year ago. Also, Cy Hudson personally responds to comments on the H9 owners group. So, I feel quite comfortable and happy with this gun. :)

    For all the haters who are like, "I can buy three Glocks for this much", just know that this gun wasn't made for you. It was made for people who want a different firearm in a market saturated with typical, boring-as-hell pistols. The modern 9mm handgun market is filled to the brim with same stuff, over and over again. This is a fresh departure from that. And nobody cares if your wallet isn't thick enough for this fine piece of machinery.

    • @hickok45
      @hickok45  6 лет назад +15

      Good point. All firearms don't have to be the most practical. People buy firearms for lots of different reasons. I have so many firearms I like a great deal that I will never carry or hunt with. They are just interesting firearms and fun to shoot. If a person can afford it, by all means, he or she should buy it and enjoy it.
      For your carry firearm, though, it's just fine for it to be "boring as hell." It's a bit like a wallet or a hammer; it's just a tool that you depend on. Somebody semi-famous out there, like Clint Smith maybe says "Don't fall in love with your carry gun." I think too many people give too much consideration to the "cool factor" when choosing a carry gun. I have some really "cool" handguns I'd like to have with me, but I use some self-discipline and stick some ugly black polymer thing in my belt that I know I'll always have with me. It's light, reliable, and is easy to shoot well.
      I can shoot those other "sexier" pistols any time I want.

    • @rustyshackleford17
      @rustyshackleford17 6 лет назад +6

      I do love the irony that this company set out to make a pistol everyone strives to make/shoot and those very same people can't help but complain about it.
      The biggest issue is the cost of the firearm. It literally does cost 2-3 Glocks, gun proven countless times over and affordable even to the most cash-crunched individuals.

    • @cstarr3240
      @cstarr3240 6 лет назад +3

      First off, I am a big fan of buying guns that are a little odd, even if they are expensive; I own a 460V, a DP-12, a Five-Seven, a .50 GI conversion for my Glock, and I even have an old AutoMag. But there is always the question of cost. The FK Brno is a beautiful piece of machinery. But at $8K, most people are going to walk away from it shaking their heads. Unfortunately, at over a grand, Hudson put itself in competition with many, many guns. And not just handguns. For the same price, you can go get a CZ Scorpion Evo carbine or a Standard Mfg. SKO. The basic, fundamental truth of economics is that we all have limited resources to satisfy infinite desires. Money not being an issue, everybody here in the comments section would have one. But money is an issue, and people will respond accordingly. Don't blame them for that. And for $1100, there is not much this pistol has going for it.

    I really want to like the Hudson, but just can't bring myself to doing so because it's not really nifty enough to justify the cost. Frankly if they can't get the cost down into the $800 range I suspect they'll sell a few guns up front but then go out of business. Hope I'm wrong because I do like the idea of someone doing something new and different.

      I think Hudson will be fine from a financial point. There's plenty of gun collectors who have disposable income who will purchase the H9. To have an odd or different kind of pistol in their collection. Though this firearm is priced high and there's a lot of new and young shooters out there with limited funds. There's plenty of people who can afford this gun. Perhaps, Hudson will offer a polymer frame which would reduce the price point...allowing to sell to a broader group of shooters. Hudson appears to have a solid investment groups behind them. Most investors wouldn't go in based on just one model. Meaning the company presented several projects to their investors.

    • @Zundfolge
      @Zundfolge 6 лет назад +1

      If they can survive and thrive as nothing more than a niche market/boutique gun manufacturer than you're correct. I think their goal is to become a mainstream producer on par with companies like Kimber or Kahr or Kel-Tec. Its also possible if the thing takes off that they'll be able to get the price down.

    • @stopthephilosophicalzombie9017
      @stopthephilosophicalzombie9017 6 лет назад

      Zundfolge there are plenty of handgun companies that only sell $1200 handguns. Why couldn’t they be one? That said this is the production run of a brand new gun. I think their goal is to reduce the price and at scale, and maybe in plastic, I think they can.

    Hey hickok! great video as always, I just wanted to say I love this vids, as an european this is amazing we get to see many guns that we'll never be able to own in crispy 1080p@60fps, one thing you could improve though is uploading videos in 1440p 60fps, I do not know what camera you have but most modern cameras that don't break the bank allow 4K recording in 60fps, which you can later crop to 1440p to keep detail (I guess your son does all of this) this is because although most people still use 1080p, setting the resolution to 1440p improves quality because of how RUclips's compression works.. anyway, thank you for such great videos! - a spanish fan!

      The same healthy market that brings about "failures," such as this firearm, also brings about little innovative firearms such as the SIG P365 and now the Springfield Armory Hellcat. That free market will bring about even more of these innovations, I"m sure.

    • @1Ocqueoc
      @1Ocqueoc 6 лет назад +1

      Rick, my collection has nothing to do with it. I don't buy based on RUclips reviews, but they do help weed out the field a bit. Before plunking down hard cash, I will rent models that I am interested in - sometimes several times. The Hudson is of a caliber and size that would lend itself to Concealed Carry - which often is a "combat" situation. An out-of-the-box issue with magazine insertion? Sorry, but this is unacceptible for an EDC weapon. If QC failed to notice this, what are they missing elsewhere? Before you ask - Yes, I have "fine tuned" my EDCs to suit personal preferences, but all of them were 100% reliable, "out-of-the-box". Toss in the weight of the H9 when compared to similar sized guns and its a deal breaker. Now, based on Hickok's review - I can't see a single thing that warrants the price tag that this thing has. YMMV
