    as an industrial designer i appreciate quality manufacturing, this piece is awesome. EDM is electronic deduction machining. basically there's two terminals that arc a very powerful current between them. the arc can shave very precise amounts of metal. these machines are often used for adjusting injection molds. they're extremely accurate and pretty costly.

    I shot the tactical FBI course with a friends STI .40 and it was awesome. I had been running the different courses with the Glock 30 .45 and told him I love the 1911 style and he said, try this. I was totally impressed. My funds doesn't allow me to purchase one as yet, but intend to when I'm able. Very accurate and easy to grip even with my medium size hands. Quality guns.

    EDM= Electrical discharge machining. Also known as spark machining, spark eroding, burning, die sinking, wire burning or wire erosion. It uses a CNC (Computer numerical control) drawing plotter and optical line follower to set the pattern.

    • @Iceberg86300
      @Iceberg86300 6 лет назад +1

      David Davis things have come a LONG way from just tracing.
      Full on CNC control nowadays, with programmable and adaptable "everything" as far as process variables go. And that's just wire EDM.
      Machining a graphite electrode that gets plunged into a solid piece of steel to form a negative mold cavity with amazing surface quality and accuracy is quite the thing to watch.

      Greg m you get a lot of fancy bits for your money. 99% of them will not benefit someone who doesn't do any kind of racing though. I'd personally buy a normal WRX over an STI, though. I like my back, lol. If only they hadn't ditched the Legacy GT... all the comfort with a butt load of torque to boot.

    • @SteelyEyedMissileDan
      @SteelyEyedMissileDan 5 лет назад

      Stout936 the cost of buying an STI and properly building the EJ platform to reliably and safely handle 500hp is stupid compared to how much I spent on my SRT8 Charger with some long tubes, a cat delete, a Mopar intake, and a custom dyno tune from my local speed shop, which makes around 505hp at the crank. And my SRT8 just turned over 145,000 miles. I bought it with 20,000 miles and have not had a single issue with it. I cannot say the same for several of my friends that bought lightly modded STIs.

    Woo! This is like a dream come true for me! My favorite RUclipsr, reviewing my dream pistol. Ever since I saw the 2011 Edge in American Handgunner Magazine, when it was introduced in the 1990's, I've always wanted one. It just looks like the perfect handgun. It kind of has the lines and shape of the mythological "Glock 1911." If I ever win the lottery, I'll be buying two of these, and an STI Perfect 10. It's basically a longslide Edge, in 10mm. Hell, two of those, too! Because of reasons.

Democrats/liberal snowflakes = bigger gov't and more laws dictating what you can and cannot do (such as owning a firearm with anything more than a 10rd magazine... I remember back when it was Tripp & McCormick that made those new fangled 2011 wide-bodied frames. LOL You couldn't get a factory gun, just custom ones. I finally had to have one and got a beauty built out by Mike Johnson in Montana in 9x21, which I switched to 9x23 a couple of seasons later. Loved that gun! Ran like a top. Now I have indulged in a handful of STI's and love them the same. Until my step-daughter told me STI is the new version of STD. Swell. I have to choose carefully the company in which I wear that ball cap! Thanks for the video '45.

    When the wife asks how many guns I need I always say "just 1 more" and boy this would be it. When you were shooting the gong you can literally see the bullets dropping in on the target, gotta love the 45 acp. Low and slow but hits like a ton of bricks.

    I ran the STI on a tactical course. It wasn't mine, but a friend of mine insisted I used his to shoot his. Sweetest shooting 1911 style pistol I have ever shot. Although designated the 2011. The one I shot was the .40 ACP. Edge

    Mr Hickok45, I'm from Massachusetts, about half hour from Worcester. I just wanted to say you have an amazing collection of firearms and I really admire them. I actually was at the Gun Parlor the other day talking to Justin about your latest addition. It's an amazing firearm. My favorite part of your collection is your .45 revolvers.

    I own a couple a of heavily used STI handguns, precision built and "Nail Driver" accuracy. My favorite best of the best. But I would never choose one as a concealed carry gun (choose something more streamline/compact), though an excellent choice for open carry. Not surprising Bud's can't keep them in stock.

    I recently bought a CZ Shadow 2 Blue in 9mm. I'm not too bad of a shot but could certainly do with more training and practice. A mate of mine owns an STI in .357 Sig and is in the Australian IPSC 2017 team shooting in major. I shot his STI Sig with major PF loads last week and was amazed. I shot WAY better off the bat with his STI using hot loads than I did with my CZ using factory 9mm. Changed my attitude on them straight away. Impressive gun.

    This is kinda like one of the "Ultimate Range Guns". Accurate, superbly made, high capacity and shoots relatively inexpensive cartridge. And propably holds value pretty well too. For a 1911 fan that is.

    Please do a review of the Staccato C2....Best of 2011 combined with Glock polymer style pistols (capacity)...Staccato, which was STI, has now moved more towards law enforcement & the gun is supposedly awesome...I’ve been in law enforcement for over 31 years, and I am a huge fan, who truly trust your thoughts & videos!!! “Life is Good”!!!

    I really enjoy these videos. I mean, the guy knows what the heck is going on. He can hit the gong better, harder, & faster, than most of the folks in the trailer court hit the bong. He lays it all out straight enough to understand. I thought the avalanche of A.E. ammo was pretty cool, but this guy has real life skills and the ability to communicate them. There will come a time when seasoned folks will be held in a far higher regard than they are held now. It'll be a wild ride in the meantime. Least we'll have someone to respect and reflect upon while the sun sets and the tide rolls.

    EDM = Electric Discharge Machining. This is a machine that uses an electrified wire to cut the material to precise tolerances. Generally, it is used for very hard and brittle material like Inconel. But if you are requiring tolerances within +/- .002 then EDM is also used regardless of material.
