if someone in this world can play Gary's songs...then its definitely Andy Timmons...cause he has the same amount of feelings as Gary...and this is what you really need...RIP Gary Moore...
Nobody appreciates Gary Moore more than I do but, Andy Timmons is a beast in his own right. He represents the next generation of great guitarists like Joe Bonamassa and a small group of others.
What a great rendition of a fine piece; Andy's touches sprinkled here and there over what is already a rather damn fine cheesecake. Nothing wrong IMO of one player improvising another's original piece. Both can be awesome yet different simultaneously.
King! Forget the rest out there, if you love is style this is the one for you. And if you play guittar like me, after your learn how to play like this you will be one step closer to heaven.
@GagaMan214 In the late 80's Steve Vai listened to Gary Moore's "The Loner" and said: "Ok, i need something like that." In 1990 he came up with "For The Love Of God" (from the "Passion And Warfare" album). Later he named Moore as one of his favourite guitar soloists.
One of many things that is so incredible about Andy is that you don't know if it's live or studio recording, that's the true meaning of a good guitarist! I was suprised by the crowd in the end, I thought it was a studio recording :)
Lots of posts comparing Timmons to Moore (both great IMHO), but though Gary Moore made it "his own" it's worth remembering the actual original, I believe, was on the Cozy Powell album Over The Top. It was composed by Max Middleton, "dedicated to Jeff Beck", and the guitar played by Clem Clempson. Search RUclips appropriately and you find album and live. I can't find Jeff Beck any rendition, anyone know of one?
Great cover by Andy, and It's just stupid to try and rate Andy vs Gary vs Vai and so on...ALL of the players at this level are just plain incredible and should simply be appreciated..That said, another GREAT cover of this (no haters pls) is from Europe featuring John Norum I believe, tho some will hate because of the wah, but I think he did it VERY tasteful and just enough of his own flavor :-)
@SethCampbell66 Yeah the live Gary Moore version from 87' will never be touched by anyone else. That and Empty Rooms from the same concert in Sweden are two cuts that actually give me gooseflesh to listen to. I rarely have that happen to me from listening to someones guitar work.
@Tbraves111 I think you need to think again. My buddy had a Guitar player magazine article on Satch and Vai and at some point they said Timmons is better than they are ! Then there was a guy named Shawn Lane that blew everybody away at a guitar player event !
@troounholygrim Yeah, he's pretty damned good. He pays excellent trtibute to Moore (likely one of his favorites) but stil maintains his own voice. How @ those fast syncopated runs at hte end? GW
@ArtKun95 Yes, it's better than Gary's studio version. But listen to "Gary Moore - The Loner - Live at Hammersmith Odeon". Andy can't hold a candle to Gary, neither in emotional playing nor in tone. Andy would admit to it as well.
Andy timmon is great, but only for his own song, the original from gary moore is way more better,u know why, because it is his song.he feel this song more than anybody, because gary moore is a lonely guy,ha! ha!

Gary Moore's composition+Andy's carefully crafted tone, feel and touch = eargasm
Nobody appreciates Gary Moore more than I do but, Andy Timmons is a beast in his own right. He represents the next generation of great guitarists like Joe Bonamassa and a small group of others.
Andy covering Gary? Shoot me im dreaming. That was amazing.
Amazing cover rest in peace Gary Moore 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪
What a great rendition of a fine piece; Andy's touches sprinkled here and there over what is already a rather damn fine cheesecake. Nothing wrong IMO of one player improvising another's original piece. Both can be awesome yet different simultaneously.

@SethCampbell66 Yeah the live Gary Moore version from 87' will never be touched by anyone else. That and Empty Rooms from the same concert in Sweden are two cuts that actually give me gooseflesh to listen to. I rarely have that happen to me from listening to someones guitar work.
@thedonace213 Actually, the song was originally written for Jeff Beck, but he didn´t want it :p... : )
@malamutelocomotive Andy Timmons is a massive fan of Jeff Beck indeed...
min 1.46 : He is Andy Timmons
min 0.00-5.37 : he is awesome
@JBFXTS2K there are so many superb players, but Lane and Holdsworth are indeed one step ahead
He's not EVH,Malmsteen, lynch, vai or satch but, he is up there w/them and yes, I do know satch was his teacher.
RIP Gary :(
berry nice
it's all good....
@Tbraves111
I think you need to think again. My buddy had a Guitar player magazine article on Satch and Vai and at some point they said Timmons is better than they are ! Then there was a guy named Shawn Lane that blew everybody away at a guitar player event !

I say this is better than original song. I know i am biased since i am a huge andy timmons's fan
@troounholygrim Yeah, he's pretty damned good. He pays excellent trtibute to Moore (likely one of his favorites) but stil maintains his own voice. How @ those fast syncopated runs at hte end? GW
@sungsupaek negative. Gary's tone and technique can not be duplicated nor can u improve a song that is already perfect. andy is ok
2024

he died one year ago. on 6 march
@ArtKun95 Yes, it's better than Gary's studio version. But listen to "Gary Moore - The Loner - Live at Hammersmith Odeon". Andy can't hold a candle to Gary, neither in emotional playing nor in tone. Andy would admit to it as well.
