I like using the landfill lot trait on a retail lot and having a sim with a store where they repair things and sell them as a business, you can add a workshop table and a fabricator too if you want to make more to sell. Also can dumpster dive for stock too, makes for a good rags to riches play through.
You can turn on the gremlins lot challenge and the gnomes lot trait (where they fix things) and let the gnomes and gremlins battle it out every night! How do you drag things into your inventory?
So dragging basically you have your cursor, place it over an object and it will turn into a little hand. You can then use it to drag items into your inventory or plates in the trash/sink/dishwasher. You can also take things out of your inventory and drag them elsewhere like luandry to the hamper or bikes to the ground. Anything lit up by a white contour can receive items (including other sims in your household panel). super handy
I actually found combining the Haunted House lot type + the Cursed lot challenge was just too much to handle. My Sims knew no peace. I also made the entire Wakaba neighbourhood in Mt. Komorebi a quake zone
I set a haunted house to have creepy crawlies, volcanic activity, quake zone, and cursed and my sims were absolutely never not terrified. Piss puddles everywhere, clothes piles and dishes because they were too scared to clean up. It was horrible. They were always dragging along because they never slept It was funny though
My favorite lot traits are simple living and off-the-grid together. I use these two for my first half of the Kingdom Challenge, where they will not have electricity and have to survive "living off the land". To be honest, these two are a good combo for Rags to Riches challenges as your sims will not randomly go to the grill and cook something when you are trying to save for a bed.
So the gremlins challenge can be hacked and nothing breaks if your up at midnight so if you have a night owl trait and a sim who is an insomniac it's totally liveable. I love volcano one for the beginning of a rags to riches play because it brings collectibles to you. Wild foxes will steal produce from harvestables if you don't have chickens on the lot Ways I use lot challenges. 1. Randomize them every week 2. Turn them all on and randomly select 1 to remove when a sim in the household completes an aspiration 3. Randomly apply lot challenges for a full sim year and only remove them if someone completes a aspiration
I like playing apocalypse gameplay with the filthy, grody and off the grid challenges. Reduce recycle is fun too because you're creating a challenging sustainable living. Since cottage living is out you can add the foxes and simple living. Rags to riches would be fun too where you remove challenges as your sim gets more comfortable. Maybe start with almost all of them or you rotate through them like the gremlin one would be fun when all you have is a fridge and toilet. You could also play with cursed where your sim is living on sacred ground so when they are in a house the spirits are upset
Gremlins would be much better balanced if it randomly broke a small amount of objects at midnight. I think anywhere from 1 to 3 objects each night would be fair. That way it allows for a good handiness building opportunity without rendering the whole house unusable.
I love the simple living challenge and the wild foxes challenge. Wild foxes is extra fun if you ever wanted to be friends with a bunch of cute little foxes. Very fulfilling!
I like to use Filthy in countryside/desert areas (and households who garden) as I imagine the sims are constantly tramping mud/dust into the house. Both Filthy and Grody are also great to make seedy motels, bars and restaurants.
Also, there are some fridges that are compatable with Off-The_Grid, but you have to remember to add ice to them which you can do by clicking on the fridge and hitting the Add Ice function. You have to keep an eye on the level of ice, though because it will melt away after a while and everything in the fridge will spoil.
the gremlin lot challenge is my favourite, it's so useful for cheaply building handiness skill early on and you can just keep your sims up at midnight for the days you don't have time to go around repairing everything
Pair Simple living with off the grid and reduce and recycle for a real challenge. Bonus points if playing in a tiny home (micro home preferred). Most fun to play on Sulani.
Simple Living is great! It really improved my game. Harvesting plants and buying ingredients now makes much more sense. It also helps to keep fat Sims from cooking unhealthy meals.
I was feeling really sick and put this video on to distract and keep me calm. It worked perfectly and I learned some stuff and enjoyed your ratings! I love using off the grid with eco lifestyle stuff. Simple living is also such a great challenge. Super realistic. Thank you extra for this video because it was just what I needed tonight
I've been playing with the Creepy Crawlies lot challenge lately, and have been poisoned several times, mostly from spiders and once from bees. Anyway, something I've noticed is if you're about to get attacked/swarmed, you can easily avoid it by queueing up something else after it. For example, I'm harvesting my garden and notice an attack/swarm join my queue. So I just add "tend garden" or sleep or pretty much anything and the attack/swarm action is replaced with it.
i feel like the gremlins turned on for a night or two would be nice for training up your handiness. maybe for storytelling too. parents go out of town and teenagers trash the house or something. a grody house would be nice if you have a bunch of kids who need daily responsibilities to work on
Petey I'm blaming you for the stain left by my tears on my carpet after this video. I was laughing so hard I cried and couldn't get up. You are killin it with the jokes!
The compostables can be used as fertilizer for the plants in your garden. You don't have to use them for bit's and bobs. With the challenge on, my sims had a much easier time of raising the plant levels in their garden.
As for the Gremlins lot challenge, you can get your handiness skill up to 10 in no time, and that way you can upgrade everything to unbreakable if you want to.
Your sense of humour gives me life.😂 "Lot challenges might be what you're after! They also might not be, but we are making a video on them so let's pretend they are."
Ahaha thanks for the kind comment Hey Hey. You are right I did go on Survivor a few years ago :p. I think a legend might be a bit of a stretch ahaha but I appreciate the kind words!
for the spooky trait, if you want more ghosts to visit, there need to be more ghosts in the world, either as actual households or "hidden" aka a normal ghost after a sim dies
Spooky and Cursed could pair well if you're going for certain Trophies/Achievements, like having a household of 8 Ghost Sims, befriending the Grim Reaper or outliving 5 spouses. Basically, anything related to death and ghosts. The Active Volcano challenge also randomly breaks appliances and electronics. I use it both in Sulani and Mt. Komorebi (since Mt. Komorebi is based on Mt. Fuji, which is an active volcano.)
I appreciate this video. Normally all the challenges videos I see is I play with all the challenges videos. So a video explaining them is very helpful.
The gremlins challenge is GREAT if you really want to improve your handiness skill. With the Grody challenge, even slob Sims get nauseated almost all of the time when eating or using the toilet. Filthy is not an issue for a slob Sim, but an absolute nightmare for a queasy or neat one. Absolutely need the Fast Cleaner trait for your Sims living there. Volcanic activity is a challenge that come with it's reward. If you have Get to Work, you may find geodes as well as alien crystals and metals in the volcanic bombs.
As someone who lives on a fault line, I wish the quake zone challenge didn’t wake Sims up every time. I have never ever woken up during an earthquake. A good way to make this lot challenge more realistic and more impactful would be to give a vertiginous moodlet to Sims who are awake at the time of the earthquake, and if the quake is really big, they’d actually have to look after the building like getting cracks fixed. They could also forcefully evacuate Sims during a big earthquake, they’d all be made to get out of the house afterwards for like 15 in-game minutes maybe? Idk, the quake zone challenge had so much potential but instead it’s annoying, as it forcefully gives the seismophobia moodlet, which again really isn’t something that happens to everyone.
Ooh thank you so much for sharing Su! It's so cool to hear your perspective on the challenge and how it could be improved. Your ideas would be a huge improvement!
Love your videos!! And lol the only lot challenges I really use now are simple living and off the grid, maybe wild foxes if my sims an animal lover lol
I have the wild foxes lot -it came that way, but I don't have chickens and I also have a dog who the foxes think is a monster based on their thought bubbles, so they're not really a nuisance. They don't even bother the rabbits from what I can see.
Fire? What fire? What are you talking about? ... Oh, you mean THAT fire here, that emerges from the stove and will most likely burn me to ashes, if I stay on the spot! Just say that! *lol* And to see Father Winter diving in the dumpster... well, it explains some things, doesn`t it? ;) The white Fox with the nightgownish clothing reminds me somehow on the tale of Red Riding Hood, no?
